So this DVD is not exactly educational but it is certainly good for a bit of a chuckle. Holly sits and watches the DVD and I can hear her chuckling away to her self and she does sometimes run around the lounge pretending to be Pingu. I found this in my local charity shop for 50p (a bargain) along with a few other kids DVD's but it is available for sale on Amazon for £4.97 new or £1.36 used. Pingu the Penguin is good

...Pingu is a program that makes up for its simplicity with the cuteness of its characters. Its a clay animation that centres around the live of a young penguin called Pingu. It also features his mother and father, sibling and a very nice seal. Pingu generally gets into trouble for something and then has to say sorry, or get out trouble. The plots are not very complicated but the animation is good. Pingu is for young kids and is admirably suited to this young age group. It lacks english as the characters talk in noises rather than words. But it has a childish simplicity that is quite addictive and it is a marked contrast to the adult nature of many childrens programs. ...pingu is a simplistic animated series about a small penguin, his family and friends and their antics in the arctic wastelands. The models are made from clay, but are quite reminiscent of FIMO, the modelling material used by many children up and down the land. Pingu and his chums do not actually speak but make a variety of noises to convey their thoughts and feelings, using facial expressions also which is really cool, and also quite sweet if they cry. I like pingu to get angry because his whole body elongates and he moves up and down in quite a rapid movement. Surprising Picture Quality - Panasonic DVD-S54

Advantages: Incredible picture quality when compared to my old non-upscaling player with a scart lead
Disadvantages: Sometimes disc drive can be really noisy when DVD's initially load.

Unable to afford a Blu-Ray player my sister and I bought the Panasonic DVD-S54 to match our parents brand new Panasonic TX-32LZD80 LCD television as their Christmas 2008 present. Enjoying my 2nd childhood through eyes of penguin

Advantages: Funny, well animated, great sound effects

...I didn't get Pingu when I was growing up as I wasn't based in Britain at the time but a few years ago I stumbled across it while suffering from insomnia and greeting yet another sunrise through bleary eyes. Pingu is a wonderful mischievious little penguin who gets himself into all sorts of bother on a daily basis. He and his brother and sister are forever causing trouble for their mum which adds to the hilarity. What makes this show truly inspirational is how in today's day in age, it manages to prove that less is sometimes more. The animation (figures made from modelling clay) is simple and the penguins don't talk. There isn't even narration, only quirky little sound effects as Pingu falls into the hole in the ice heading after a ball, or accidentally pulls all his mum's washing off the washing line for a third time. ...Pingu is a lovely childrens' programme, suitable for all ages from babies upwards. When my oldest daughter was a baby, sometimes getting up with her in the middle of the night & watching Pingu was the only thing I could do to settle her down ! Not surprisingly, I know many of the stories by heart ! They are all about a cute little penguin called Pingu, who is a little boy penguin & lives with his parents & baby sister, Pinga - who is bottlefed as a baby, for some reason !! The stories are varied & often have some good lessons to learn for the viewers, as the character of Pingu experiences things like feeling jealous of his younger sister & feeling scared when he gets lost. It is a lovely programme, very well made & is ideal for letting little ones watch, without having to worry about its content or suitability. Highly recommended....
