...Well, this could take some time. Of all my favourite bands, the Floyd are the one who've been around the longest, and have been in my music collection the longest, and their back-catalogue is extensive to say the least. Unlike most of the bands I've been reviewing lately, I doubt that this one needs much of an introduction or an in-depth description of their music style. For one thing, their musical style varies wildly from album to album, incorporating elements of funk, blues, jazz and gospel into their trademark prog-rock soundscapes. The only way to review Pink Floyd properly is to do so chronologically, highlighting each studio album, personnel change and other landmark along the way. Pink Floyd The Name Says It All

Advantages: A fantastic album
Disadvantages: Only if you preferred Roger Waters in the band

...The Division Bell is the second studio album recorded after Roger Waters left the Pink Floyd, its more commercial than their earlier offerings, but it stands up as one of the best, and pretty much signalled a return to form. Background OK, the story so far, Pink Floyd began their recording life in 1967, a quartet made up of Roger Waters, Rick Wright, Nick Mason, and Syd Barrett, a year later Syd Barrett became too unreliable and so for the group to survive, he was replaced by Dave Gilmore. In 1979 Roger Waters had became far too arrogant, he virtually had the new album ready planned out, the songs written and brought them in to the studio merely for the band to perform, he also demanded that Rick Wright leave after the completion of the album - The Wall, otherwise he would not let the songs be used, and so Rick wright agreed...

Pink Floyd philamonic orchestra strikes!!!

Advantages: Has an orchestral slash psychadelia mix which is unique to pink floyd
Disadvantages: First track is Pink floyd's longest and is long winded,may drive people crazy if you sat them down an forced them to listen to the opening track for half an hour

...the sahara dessert which is strange and not related in any way to the albumn but is a rare treat for Floyd fans.The booklet contains the typical set up,all lyrics are included with a fitting background array of pictures.The cover is a picture of a cow in a field,rather strange, a very good cover though. This albumn can be found very expensive i should think so in any high street shop like hmv or virgin but like most floyd albumns can be bought brand new for about £7.I would stay away from ebay their are to many international unoffcial ersions out there and you will most likely be forced to re-sell it just to get your money back. The Floyd...still in the pink

Advantages: Range of music
Disadvantages: Early material might put you off!

...I have been a Pink Floyd fan for many years and yes I still do listen to the earthy early stuff. How could you not listen to a track called: "Careful with that axe Eugene"? Very early material such as the double album "Ummagumma" from which the above mentioned track comes, are to all intents and purposes psychedelic hard rock, BUT the group is eclectic too; on the same album there is the weird and wonderful "Several species of small furry animals gathered together in a cave and grooving with a Pict". Sounds bizarre and it is, but listen to it twice and I bet that you can't get the immortal lyric "Um buh ah eeeeee!" out of your mind! And for those whose taste leans to the lyrical, the pretty, "Grantchester Meadows" an acoustic, melodic ballad, is evocative of the Cambridge roots of the group...you could almost be there in...

Pink Floyd gets the gold meddle

Advantages: WOW
Disadvantages: A bit out of date

...Meddle was recorded in 1971 by Pink Floyd at EMI Studios and sees the appearance of David Gilmour as the replacement to Syd Barret (R.I.P). One of these days sounds like a calming relaxed song which sounds somewhat like David's new album (On an island) with a calming and a nice little bit of slide guitar to tae you out of the song. Here is a run-through of the songs: A Pillow Of Winds is typical of the songs of the early 70's but as always Pink Floyd made it different and gave it a depressed feel to it but it then twists into a cheerful sounding song Fearless is a jumpy song with some good guitar at the beginning and the thought inducing lyrics really make you think you are there right in front of him as he sings truly the best song of the early 70's. Pink Floyd The Wall - Studio Album - Excellent!

Advantages: Great songs, use of instruments and brilliant innovative style
Disadvantages: Some parts seem to drag on a bit

...My introduction to this album started last Saturday when I thought I?d find out what all the fuss about this album was about being apparently brilliant. Consequently, I can honestly say that this is one of the best, and definitely most innovative albums I?ve heard in a long time. From the very beginning with the slow introduction of flutes and strings comes an explosion of drums and guitars that almost blows you away. This ensures you know whom your listening to being the legend that is Pink Floyd. Following on as the tracks flow nicely into each other, the music builds up with air sirens whirling imitating the war and then it all turns much quieter with a more ballad style of music and meaningful lyrics. Advantages: Double CD. everything you need for Floyd. Great art illutrations. good value for money, an Inspirational album

...Echoes(The Best Of Pink Floyd), Is the most recent of Pink Floyd Albums in the past few years. This Album is more 'Promotional' than any of the other albums released. I have many Pink Floyd Album including 'Is There Anybody Out There?' (special limited edition boxset), but there is something very special about this album. Of course the songs on this album are ones that you have probably heard before, but the way this album has been compiled is special in the respect that every song goes in together and in my opinion creates a theme which makes CD1 different from CD2. The song 'Echoes' itself is absolute genius. I have one time to many bought an album of many genres having the name of a song in the album also being the name of the album itself, and not being satisfied. PINK FLOYD a tribute.

Advantages: No-one does it quite like Floyd
Disadvantages: Many have tried but only two have succeeded

...My first introduction to Pink Floyd was as a little 11 yr old who at the time thought they sounded wierd.This was because Sid Barret was the lead songwriter for the band,and spent most of his time trying the "funny" substances that were the rage at that time.This was self evident in the style of the lyrics for example: "Set controls for the heart of the sun" and "the bike song". Sadly the funny substances caused the breakdown which he has never fully recovered .Then came Roger Waters and although the ways of the group were not smooth ( Roger Waters -attempted to take the bands name, after a break up, through the courts. (Thankfully this failed.) So the band reformed and the rest ,so they say, is history.They went onwards and upwards recruiting more and more followers as time went by. I rediscovered the joys of listening to Pink Floyd...

Best Pink Floyd album without Roger Waters

Advantages: A few good songs, very good in fact
Disadvantages: More boring songs than good ones

...I thought that Pink Floyd would disband when Roger Waters left as he was such a significant part of this popular beat combo ;-) They stuck together though and this, in my opinion, shows some of the old Pink Floyd spirit even though he isn't among them any more. Incedentally I think Waters was wrong to claim he IS pink floyd and that the band couldn't use that name, because Dave Gilmour for one put so much into the pool of talent that was the Pink Floyd I liked so much. Anyway, this album has some good songs on it - such as "What do you want from me" which has very impressive vocals and music as does "A great day for freedom" and "Coming back to life". I was well impressed with the artwork and sleeve notes, better than the music. The rest of the album seems pretty bland though, not the hard hitting, reality biting Pink Floyd...
