...On a never ending quest to improve my computer set up I decided I needed to purchase a DVD recorder drive of some sort. Backing up my important data using my CD-R drive was a time consuming operation which used four CD-R`s every time. I had been put off by the high price of DVD recorder drives while they remained fairly new but over the past few months prices have dropped to such an extent that a DVD recorder drive can now be bought for under £100. When I saw the Pioneer DVR ? 106 drive available for £88 at Dabs.com I did not hesitate in ordering the drive which duly arrived just two days later. ...A month or so ago I purchased a new car, MK4 VW Golf 1.9 TDI. Not being brand new, I wanted to make some changes to make it feel more like mine. First thing I noticed was the out-dated sound system in the car. Despite being a 51 reg, it came with a tape deck of all things and a 6-disc CD changer. Ugly, boring and outdated. I wanted something a bit snazzier. I had seen other Golfs with single DIN units, meaning there was a horrible gap in the dash board. Opting for double-din was the only logical choice. Compared to the MK2, its functionality has definately got better with its track search speed being imporved significantly. Once again, the layout of the buttons are easy to use and see even in the dark, and Pioneer have made more effort to better the information display - its brightness and clarity are a major improvement on the MK2. Cons All in all, there are no cons in my opinion - this piece of equipment is the very best any dj has at his fingertips.   Pioneer DVR-105 Internal DVD-RW Drive

Advantages: High DVD/CD compatibility after firmware update, it's Pioneer need another reason?
Disadvantages: Before flash update the drive sucks, 4 speed is dated now

.... And once again, the cycle of piracy starts all over. But this time the geniuses had a trick up their sleeves, they made sure this drive only wrote on one side of the disc and only to one layer, meaning we only got 4.7GB out of the whole thing. Ah well, nothing a bit of perserverance and moaning can't get you, the first of the double layer drives and media has already been released but that's another story. Hey before you get the wrong idea I do not condone software piracy. If you use hardware to copy whatever you like then that's up to you, but to be honest when you're caught the Police will have very little sympathy for you. So remember, crime doesn't pay and when it does it'll be you paying. This was the first DVD Re-Writer I ever had and basically it has served me well. Pioneer CMX-3000 Review

Advantages: Same functionality as CDJ-1000 but half the price
Disadvantages: None I have found

...I have owned the Pioneer CMX-3000 for almost two years now. My dilemma was that I wanted CD decks, but couldn't afford to spend £1,400 on a pair of CDJ-1000MKIII but still wanted the build quality and functions of a Pioneer unit. I believe I have found this with this unit. As well as having an auto cue, it has a built in loop function which basically acts as a sampler. Once loop points have been set it can then be saved into the bank memory of the unit, which is another great feature. From my extensive use of the unit, I can honestly say that I have never had any trouble with it, and I recommend it to any dj (being beginner, intermediate, or advanced). I believe that with this unit you are getting as much funtionality and build quality as the CDJ-1000 but at a snip of the price!...

Review of Pioneer CMX-3000

Pioneer CDJ200; best low budget CD deck

Advantages: Excellent effects
Disadvantages: No scratch facility

...Having used as friends CDJ200 and enjoyed it very much, I purchased one of my own. The unit looks very good and feels solid in construction. The best features are the looping facility and the ability to cut loops, cutting loops on the CD deck is a feature that the CDJ1000 DOESNT HAVE. The Effects (Jet, Zip and Wah) are good and produce the same result as the Pioneer efx 500 and DJM effects modules. The pitch adjustment is smooth and you can choose between +/-6,10,12% pitch, the pitch can be bent easily by the jog wheel, this takes a while to get used to as it is different to a standard turntable (1210) and not as dampered as the excellent jog wheel on a CDJ1000, this is acceptable as it is less than half the price. The ability to play MP3 format cd's is great as you can fit about 150 accapellas on one cd, excellent for easy access...
