Pioneer DCS 525
Review of Pioneer DCS525 by
tgrigg
Advantages: Rear wireless speaker, Great Sound and Picture
Disadvantages: None
...The Pioneer DCS 525 comprises of a DVD player, subwoofer and 4 speakers packaged together. I bought this system from Internet for the very reasonable price of £350
The heart of the system is a DVD player, tuner, alarm clock and 100 watt subwoofer combined together in a compact and slim design.
To give the home cinema effect, four speakers are provided. These comprise of a sub-woofer and four satellite speakers. These speakers seem pretty robust and have 100 watt output each. You can also tell the system far away you sit from the speakers so it can better your sound.
Features
The DVD player will handle playback of the the following formats: CD, DVD, DVD-R DVD-RW, CD-R, VCD, SVCD, MP3 and JPEG.
You are given a choice of Dolby Pro Logic Surround / Dolby Pro Logic Surround II / Dolby Digital / DTS Digital Surround sound...

Pioneer DV525 or DV535
Review of Pioneer DV-525 by
groomoid
Advantages: Cheap, good picture and sound, multi region(if chipped),Plays all CD's
Disadvantages: None for me
...I couldnt find a place to write about the Pioneer DV-535, but as the only difference between the two models is that the DV-535 is black and the DV-525 is silver & doesn't have an optical out. This seemed as good a place as any.
I have read some reviews on this site and others, and like most people did a fair bit of research on forums etc. This is a very good DVD player for the money. I brought a multi region one from richer sounds for £207 including 3 years warranty. It is reasonably straight forward to set up and plays cd's (both shop bought and those i have ripped on the computer). The remote is easy to understand and the whole thing is a cinch to set up.
The player is automatic in detecting most region 1 DVD's, but if it doesn't then it can be remote hacked as well
I have heard a lot of people talk about the noisy DVD drawer when...

Pioneering price for an antique DVD
Review of Pioneer DVR-212D by
suddenend
Advantages: Very, very cheap; SATA; Fast; Reads/Writes most DVD formats
Disadvantages: Only comes in beige; No DVD-RAM writing (Read Only)
...Make: PIONEER
Model: DVR-212D
Specification: DVD±RW (±R DL) drive - Internal - Serial ATA - Read speed: 40x (CD) / 16x (DVD)/ 5x (DVD-RAM) - Write speed: 40x (CD) / 18x (DVD±R) / 10x (DVD±R DL) - Rewrite speed: 32x (CD) / 6x (DVD-RW) / 8x (DVD+RW)
REVIEW
I bought my Pioneer DVR-212D, a few days ago for just £11 inc. VAT, BRAND NEW, from eBuyer.com. I hope you agree that's an incredible price for a S-ATA DVD rewriter.
I only really needed the Pioneer drive to aid in testing the functionality of another more current P-ATA DVD-RW drive that was exhibiting some very odd behaviour that I wasn't absolutely certain was the drive's fault, so I wasn't too fussy about it being highly specified. Having said that the pioneer handles all manner of read/write formats with the exception of writing to DVD-RAM and writing Lightscribe data...

Too old now
Review of Pioneer DV-525 by
colin99
Advantages: Top notch pictures and sound
Disadvantages: Mechanically noisy and spindle motors fail
...Only a quick review here, in case someone is looking at buying a second-hand Pioneer DV-525.
Compared to modern DVD players, it does show its age. Though capable of playing DVD-R, DVD-RW, DVD+R, DVD+RW, CD-R and CD-RW (not all of which had even been invented when this machine was built!), along with Video CD and SVCD, it will not play MP3 nor display CD Text.
All usual DVD player functionality is in there, including Widescreen support. The remote control is not laid out in a particularly inspired way so it can be a little tricky to use in the dark. I almost always use a universal remote control instead. Reverse play is not very well supported, you can't just play backwards at normal speed unlike a few other Pioneer models.
Pictures are top-notch, even today. Sound is very good too. But mechanically the machines make all...

Excellent player, easy hookup
Review of Pioneer DV-525 by
joshnev
Advantages: Excellent audio, video, easy hookup
Disadvantages: More expensive than VHS
...Buying a DVD player for the family was not as easy as I thought it would be. There is a lot more than just choosing between a 2-head and 4-head VCR, mostly having to do with the sound and video capabilities of the player.
I settled on the Pioneer 525 for a few reasons. One, the quality of Pioneer products has always impressed me. Two, the price along with the rebates available. Three, the available outputs through the back of the machine.
The price I paid was about £275, plus an S-video cable (for those with modern televisions). The S-video I highly recommend for crystal clear hookups (I chose a cable from Monster Cable). I would have preferred an included video cable, but such is life.
The audio I hooked up through the L and R audio cables into my receiver. I was actually stunned more by the audio than the video quality, although...

Good all-rounder
Review of Pioneer DV-525 by
andyev
Advantages: full feature, VCD playback
Disadvantages: noisy disk drawer
...I bought a chipped 525 from Link Electronics via internet last year and can't say that I have been disappointed.
I looked into the purchase by reading reviews on the internet and was told by other owners that their only gripe with it was that the CD drawer is really noisy.
I got my player within a couple of days and basically, that is the only problem with it - the CD drawer is incredibly noisy!
However, the player itself is full featured, plays DVDs well - handling multi-layer discs at faster speed than some of the more expensive players such as the Sony. It also handles VCDs which is a boon if you have a CD-writer on your computer because you can download your own films over the internet and play them back (although the quality with this is not as good as with DVD)
Ensure that your television has a SCART input (or loop...

A good player now outdated
Review of Pioneer DV-525 by
Mooseman
Advantages: Quality of picture and sound
Disadvantages: CD playback not as good as CD separates
...Ive been looking to replace my PC as a source of DVD playback, and after much searching and demoing, I found the Pioneer DVD 535.
I have still not seen any reviews of this machine in the press, however going on the well known quality of the 525 I shelled out £209 and have definately been more than happy.
I have seen some forums discuss a noisy platter, but compared with most I demoed it was nice and quiet.
Have a look if your in the market for a £200-300 DVD player....you wont be sorry....

Absolutely Brilliant
Review of Pioneer DV-525 by
neiltom88
Advantages: Good sound and picture, no jumping, easy setup
Disadvantages: Not a lot for the price
...I bought the pioneer Dv-525 about 6 months ago at bargain price of £169.
It took all of about 3 minutes to setup my DVD player with my television, then only another 5 minutes to set up the options and settings on-screen with a very user-friendly menu system.
The picture is superb and sound is very good especially through surround sound or even just on a Nicam TV.
The player is multi-regional and automatical sets itself to whatever region DVD is put in the machine.
The player hardly makes any of the whirring and vibrating noises often assoicated with lower-budget DVD players.
The remote control is just the right size and not to cluttered with buttons - the main buttons are all very easily accessed without fumbling around with the remote.
You can also play cd's, cd-r's and vcd's on the player with excellent sound...

A mere woman converted EXCELLENT
Review of Pioneer DV-525 by
sue
Advantages: Beats video by far
Disadvantages: None
...This player is outstanding it has converted me a mere woman to the benefits of DVD & suround sound TV.
I had always tolerated my husbands need for the best TV & audio equipment, but this got me watching James Bond, I hate James Bond, just for the effects and the picture quality.
We started with a Matsui DVD within a week the DVD player was faulty and exchanged. We then changed one DVD 7 times because it played most other DVD's ok we thought it was the DVD not the player. When the store got fed up of changing the DVD we took the DVD to a local TV & audio shop and asked them to check the DVD it played on all there DVD players.
The Matsui DVD player was returned again checked instore and found to be faulty again.
We paid the extra and got the PIONEER DV-525 it plays every DVD the picture quality is excellent as is the sound...

Motorola V525 - I love it!
Review of Motorola V525 by
gusgusrule
Advantages: Excellent design, cool camera, Easy to use
Disadvantages: Hard to find, Expensive, Arrival of the V600 :(
...After a good two years of use I decided it was time to part with my lovely Nokia 8850, and with all the hyp over these latest colour camera phones I decided I should up date my technology a litte and have my own little show piece; all my freinds did!
-----------------
AVAILIBILITY
-----------------
I got the V525 on the Vodafone pay as you go network, after spending ages trying to find it! Firstly I looked on the internet at various websites including comet, currys, dixons etc all of which didn't stock the phones or did stock them but had simple sold out! I then visited my town centre, including the carphone warehouse which had also sold out and whenever I went in the vodafone shop that had sold out too! By this time I was in the orange shop looking at V500s (very similiar to the v525 but without the fancy blue strip down...
