Cinema Paradiso is, however, a film that is both accessible and beautiful and cannot fail to be appreciated by anyone with a love of cinema. A world of cinema... for £162

Advantages: Great facilities, great Unlimited deal
Disadvantages: Expensive

...I am fortunate to live right next to a large Shopping Centre, that not only contains many good stores but is itself surrounded by many other retailers, restaurants, cinemas, etc. My favourite attraction: the Cineworld multiplex. Cineworld is Britain's second largest multiplex cinema operator in the United Kingdom, with 74 cinemas and over 800 screens. It also has one cinema in Jersey and another in the Republic of Ireland. Its first cinema opened in 1996, and the company has since integrated the UGC cinema chain. I like the "ambiance" at my local Cineworld. Pioneering Home Cinema

Advantages: Compact, Pretty, Wife Pleaser!
Disadvantages: Complicated Remote, Reliability

...After being bought a 32" Widescreen TV by my wife in January 2001, we decided that it would be a good idea to replace our old stereo system, which comprised of Sony separates built in the early 1980s and an Alba CD player (apart from anything else, they wouldn't fit in the TV cabinet!) As we were replacing the whole lot we decided to look at home cinema DVD systems. We looked at offerings from Sony, Panasonic and this one from Pioneer. Our main concerns were how good the system sounded (which counted out the Sony unit we looked at - the sound was terrible on that) and how good it looked (which discounted the bulky Panasonic unit - BTW the looks thing was my wife's input to the buying process!!!) I searched the internet for the best price I could find (I think it was about £500 but I might be wrong), printed off the details...

Advantages: Great films

...If you are even only vaguely interested in the early days of cinema, you really do need to get this special 2 DVD set. Because when the British Film Institute says early, they mean really early! The earliest film in this collection dates back to 1895. Yes! That's right! 1895! You can see gems like Sortie d'usine, which is a film taken of workers leaving the Lumiere factory in Lyon, France. One amusing point in this film I that a dog rushes out with all of the workers and then a while later, rushes back, perhaps after realising that he had inadvertently left his pet human behind! The next film (Repas de bebe) is also from 1895 and records Auguste Lumiere and his family enjoying breakfast in their garden. As the commentary (written by Barry Salt, read by Michael Garland) points out the audience of the day were equally as fascinated...

Maidenhead Odeon Cinema - stay away!!

Advantages: there wasn't any!
Disadvantages: no food or drink, dirty, screens didn't work, didn't show any of the top movies

...I don't know anything about Maidenhead to be honest, but I'm pretty sure this is the only cinema there. I was away staying at me girlfriends Nan's last week, and we wanted to go to the cinema. Europes tallest cinema

Advantages: price, location, choice

...[Updated 01/01/03, details at bottom] Opened on 21 September 2000, as Europes tallest cinema at 12 storeys high, with 18 screens. Typically showing 22 films this is by far the biggest choice in Central Scotland. Located next to Cambridge Street carpark, Buchanan Bus Station, Queen Street Railway Station and Buchanan underground these are the best ways to travel to the venue, as parking in Glasgow is severely restrcited and pricey. (If driving into Glasgow the Odeon at The Quay will be cheaper, but not as good) The cinema opens at 10:45 (unless there are early screenings for new releases). "Early bird" tickets are available for all screenings before 12:00, currently £3. Sign postings to the screens is amazingly poor, but I think they assume you know you have to go upstairs!
