...I you shop around, at local tyre fitters as well as on the internet, you will find that there are many places selling bargain tyres, but you must pay for delivery, and fitting, and balancing, Oh and the new valve, then there is the charge for disposing of your old tyres. I decided this saving just wasn't worth the hassle. I therefore went to my local tyre fitting centre. My tyre expert is worth his weight in gold, and he runs his hand across the tread before doing anything else. He then knows if the steering geometry is wrong, in some cases it can save premature wear on your tyres, and can save the customer a fortune, never mind affecting safety. Pirelli P6000

Advantages: Will keep you on road

...There are a few reviews already on this tyre but I will give my view and add some information for those who don't really know much about tyres, I'm not an expert so please correct me if I am wrong with any of the details. Pirelli are one of the top brand names when it comes to tyres, they can be slightly more expensive than some other top brands and are reasons other than garages trying to make a buck or two on them. Pirelli tyres are a well balanced tyre for all occasions and most driving styles. Pirelli are preferred tyres for manufacturers such as BMW, Ford and Vauxhall and some others. A detailed account of my use with "Pirelli 6000"

Advantages: Solid performance on less-than-perfect (and also wet) roads.
Disadvantages: They look pretty generic.

What Price Safety?

Advantages: Good grip in both wet and dry conditions. Great safety record.
Disadvantages: One of the most expensive tyres on the market.

Most overlooked car part

Advantages: Long lasting, excellent grip, great in wet
Disadvantages: Noisy towards the end of useful life

...so concerned, because, despite my car having good all round safety features I'd rather not use them if my tyres help me stay out of trouble. Pirelli P6000 = Mileage ------- Back to the point...I changed from Firestone tyres on my car when they wore out - the fronts after only 16k miles on a new car and the rears at around 28k miles. I've now replaced my front Pirelli's again after a further 30k miles - (with life still in them - a slow puncture resulted in their premature demise). The rear tyres have done 16k and only a quarter worn. There are many factors in tyre life but almost double mileage speaks volumes. Ok mileage isn't everything but lets just say the cheapest tyres can be false economy in the long run, not just replacement costs but fuel consumption varies between tyres. ...Twice now, in a fairly short space of time, I have acquired a full set of tyres for my car, and the particular brand this time was Pirelli P7s. I was reminded of the fact that mine being sixteen inch, were a little more expensive than fifteens, or even seventeens! Apparently this is due to supply and demand, they don't make quite so many sixteen inch tyres. These were fitted on Vauxhall alloys, and all balancing weights were on the inside, where they should be, why is it most fitters put them on the outside? ...When I bought my last car it had pirelli P6000 tyres on it, I have never really been that bothered about what tyres were on my car before as long as they were cheap and legal, but since using these I have always replaced with P6000's. Price I get my tyres from a local supplier (not a major garage) as I have used the major company's and believe the price and quality of service are supperior. In the past I have only paid around £25-£35 per tyre and now I pay £50 (for 185/55/15) for my Pirelli P6000's - this should be an indication of how much I rate these and even for this price I still think of them as a good buy! This is the price fully fitted and may sound expensive but includes valves and balancing, and this particular size is considered low profile and fits on alloy wheels (on which the balancing has to be done on rear...

However, what I did not look at was the type, These were WINTER tyres, and that caused me to think if they were the right ones fo all year round. I researched on the net, and found that these were about the best gripping tyres you can get for snow, but was also pleased to see that they offered very good grip in the dry. I am well pleased with them so far, although I cannot comment on their performance on snow or ice as of yet. Pixie may not exist but she IS an author and can count fellow (real) authors Marian Keyes and Cathy Kelly amongst her fans.
