AVERAGE HOTEL DOUMO

Advantages: Fantastic location
Disadvantages: In need of refurbishment

...Having an early morning flight back to Edinburgh, and looking to spend our last night of our recent trip to Italy in Pisa, we chose the Grand Hotel Doumo. Why? Well, if you're looking for a hotel which is ideally located for all that Pisa has to offer, you'd be hard placed to find a more suitable one. It's literally a few steps from the famous tower and in fact, many of the rooms have a magnificent view of the tower and Doumo (hence the name). that explains the Doumo part of the name...you could hardly be more accurate. And describing it as an hotel is pretty spot on too. But Grand? Me no think so. The hotel may indeed have been grand once upon a time (possibly around the time the builders had forgotten their plumb line and were erecting said tower with all haste), but it sure ain't now. Love is in the air in Pisa!

Advantages: reasonably priced for a four star hotel!
Disadvantages: Location, far out from the centre of Pisa

...We stayed in this hotel in February 06 when visiting Pisa The main drawback, it has to be said straight away, is the location. It's about 10 minutes by bus outside the main town of Pisa. There is a bus which stops right outside the hotel about every 15 minutes and tickets can be bought from the reception desk, so this did not put us off and didn't cause any problems for us while we were there. If you are willing to travel for a great hotel, then this is it! I believe that there is a shuttle bus during peak months into the centre of Pisa. This four star hotel has 55 double rooms, and 2 junior suites. 2 of the double rooms have disabled facilities. The rooms are large and ours had a double bed, large desk, satellite television, mini bar (which was very reasonably priced!!), large bathroom which is well lit, wardrobe, easy chair...

My Angle on PISA

Advantages: Big WOW factor
Disadvantages: None

...One of the highlights of our trip to Tuscany last year was to be our visit to Pisa. To be accurate, the main attraction was not so much the city of Pisa itself, charming though it undoubtedly is, but the Field of Miracles*. Well, to be punctiliously precise, it wasn't even the Field of Miracles that had our anticipatory juices flowing, but The Leaning Tower of Pisa in particular. * The Field of Miracles is the area housing the Duomo, Tower, Baptistry and associated buildings. To be honest, if you discount the Field of Miracles, I'm not sure that much else in Pisa merits a visit although I expect some Pisaphile will soon put me straight on that count. However, it can't be denied that the seething masses that are constantly disgorged from the tourist buses usually have one thing in mind and that's to take one of those corny snaps...

Review of The Leaning Tower of Pisa

Great Hotel.... it's called grand for a reason

Advantages: Great location, lovely hotel, great staff, good value for money
Disadvantages: not great view from our room,

...I went to Pisa in November 2007 with my boyfriend. We had an amazing time and stayed here at the Grand Hotel Duomo. It was great value for money, we got the third night free so ended up paying £140 for three nights which was well worth it. Arrived at the hotel and the initial impressions were good. Nice hotel front, good location, clean and modern reception area. Bearing in mind we were there out of season, the staff on the reception desk were flawless. We spoke no Italian and they spoke to us in English and gave us maps of Pisa and pointed out some nice places to go and good bars/restaurants. Our room was on the 1st floor and didn't have a great view. We looked out onto a flat roof and then the back of another building. But seeing as we were out most of the day and only were in our room to get ready and sleep it wasn't a big issue...

Pisa off on holiday

Advantages: Good price, great rooms and breakfast
Disadvantages: not best surroundings

.... I digress. After much uncertainty we decided on a rather pleasant looking hotel, vaguely posh, close to the airport and near a beach with its own pool in case of climate emergencies. It was a blind act but that only added to the excitement. The Journey --------------- I don't care if Ryanair are tacky and a bit cramped and dirty. And smell. Or crash on landing. They get you there for buttons. Pisa Airport was OK. Small but with the bits you need - loos, shops, pizza etc etc. We arrived at night and Easter is apparently a big deal for the Italians. Something about God and guilt. However, the taxis were plentiful and zipped us off to the nearby coastal resort of Tirrenia for about 25Euros for a 20km journey (memory may be fading). We kept going past Tirrenia for about 5km to the hotel. It was dark. I had absolutely no idea where I was...

I wanna a Pisa that erection!

Advantages: Breath taking views, easy to get to and around
Disadvantages: Them damn bicycles

...Last Wednesday a few of my work colleagues and I went along to Pisa for the day, after spotting a bargain on the Ryanair website which involved us paying 2p per ticket with Ryanair and £20 in Airport Tax. Having never been to before this was a first taste of Italy for me and I was especially looking forward to seeing the Leaning Tower in all its glory Pisa is located in Tuscany, still surrounded by its 12-century City Walls on the north bank of the river Arno with just over 100,000 inhabitants. The centre of Pisa is easily accessible from Galileo Galilei Airport, which is about a mile away from the City Centre. Jolly Hotel Calvieri great place to stay!

...Myself and my partner stayed in this hotel for one night on before our return home from Pisa airport. I?m pretty certain this hotel is actually a 3 star and it actually feels more like a 4 star. The hotel was spotlessly clean with exceptional rooms; we were lucky to have one with a balcony which overlooked the plaza below. The bathrooms are huge and come completely stocked with hair dyers and all the essentials such as cream a shower gel. On first impressions of the staff did seem a little arrogant, but I do not think this was intentional. Perhaps it was my strong Welsh accent which had them a little confused. They were extremely helpful, gave us a map and suggested the best ways to get to the main attraction sites. Good Value accomodation

Advantages: Good price, Near to Pisa attractions
Disadvantages: No tea / coffee facilities in rooms

....85€ (tickets available from the airport information desk). All the local attractions in Pisa are within 20 – 25 min walk from the hotel. The easiest way to get around town is by using the very cheap, efficient and clean local bus service. The hotel staff will advise you of which bus goes where. Tickets cost 0.85€ for one hours travel (Nov 2006) and are available from the tobacco shop outside the hotel. A word of advice on car hire, don’t bother if you are taking a short break and intend to stay just within Pisa. Most of the streets within Pisa are closed to traffic except for local residents, parking is scarce and expensive....

...I recently went on a cultural girlie trip with a friend to Paris. I was left to do all the booking. I was looking for a reasonable hotel, near a metro stop, which included breakfast. I came across the Hotel International on various travel sites and it seemed fairly highly rated so I booked us in for three nights. LOCATION: The hotel is located 6 Rue Auguste Barbier in the 11th Arrondissement. The nearest Metro stop is Garcourt which was a two minute walk away and it was a five minute walk to Republique which gives good links to other lines. It's not really central enough to avoid the Metro and walk to the attractions but it was located so close to a stop that it seemed ideal. PRICE: Prices vary depending on size of room and season. There are singles, doubles and triples available. We paid Euro254 for the whole time...

A touch of class

Advantages: 50 m from train station, close to bus to airport, internet TV
Disadvantages: 15-20 mins walk to Pisa tower, 5 mins walk to shopping street

...I chose this hotel for a short stay in Pisa after some days in Milano. The purpose of staying in Pisa was to take advantage of the Ryanair prices. Arriving by train from Milano it was a relief to walk out of the station and see the hotel just across the road. The bus to the airport also leaves from that same location and takes just over 5 minutes to get to the airport. Walking into the hotel it felt every bit like a 4 star hotel. Nice lobby, clean from top to bottom. The room I had overlooked the plaza where the train station is, quite a nice view even though the balcony is very small. The room was quite spacious with adequate storage facilities, a good television system equipped with the ability to browse Internet on the Tv. As always pay per view options were also available. Bathroom facilities also proved more than adequate...
