Best-ival Place!

Advantages: Great shops, all indoors, cinema and restaurants too, cheap car park, easy to get to

There is Zavvi and HMV for those who like DVDS, CDs and Games, 6 jewellers for those special presents, and a good selection of shoe shops as well for those of us who love our shoes! There is also a small Tesco Metro on site as well, so you can stock up on your groceries before you go home! I always thought Festival Place was just about the shops, but I have been enlightened lately that there is so much more to it than that. The area boasts 30 different restaurants, cafes and bars, a VUE cinema, and even a Toni and Guy hairdressing salon! A great set of rollers!

Advantages: shiny, full of volume curls!
Disadvantages: Still time consuming!

...I used these a few weeks ago at my friend's house and I was really impressed! When I go out to a wedding or a big occasion I like to spend some time getting ready and making my hair look nice. I have tried using curling tongs and GHDs to curl my hair but i'm always getting it uneven or burning myself or I get half way throguh and decide i'm fed up!! I went to my friend's house and used her roller set and I was really impressed with them! They heated up very quickly and were really easy to use. The box contains 20 rollers which are ceramic. They are in 3 different sizes which is dfferent to what I've used before as they only had two sizes. Where the Lost Things Go? A Place Called Here . . .

Advantages: Hearing the 'authentic' Irish Accent; the abridging makes the story less meandering
Disadvantages: Some of the incidental plot nuances are lost in the abridging; have to change discs.

...I must confess that I was bought the Paperback version of this book first . . . my husband bought a "Best Seller" at the library that was being sold off for 50p and I read it the same night. It was one 'off the wall' book which really struck a chord with me, as my husband often 'tears the house apart" looking for something he mislays; and sometimes it doesn't turn up at all . . . . Or I am looking for a particular CD or Cassette, and I can find the case ~ but it is empty ~ Where HAVE all the lost things gone? Well, it's A Place Called Here according to this book by Dublin-born Cecelia Ahern. She's got some wacky theories, but this one is pretty amazing! . I really did want to hear this in the "original tongue" (Oirr-ish*) as it were, though, and having an Amazon voucher to spend, I couldn't resist buying the audio version...

Bosch 14 place setting

Advantages: Whisper quiet and you get more in than an avge dishwasher
Disadvantages: Doesn't always dry properly, cutlery tray a bit of a faff to load

...We ordered this dishwasher because we wanted one with 14 place settings (as we seemed to be running our old one twice a day). This one definitely can take more 'stuff' because of a separately cutlery drawer/shelf. There are two great features with this dishwasher: 1 - the sound - it is so quiet !! You hardly notice it's even on. This was a big factor in selecting this model but I am astounded each time it runs just how quiet it is ! 2 - the load you can put in it, compared to a standard one you do get more in. Obviously I'm not talking double or anything, just an additional 10% or so but that makes a big difference and stops dirty stuff hanging around by the sink. There are two drawbacks though: 1 - it doesn't dry properly. Quite often things come out wet or with the odd drip/streak on them and you have to give them a wipe...

...This is one of my comfort films - the sort I put on when I'm not feeling very well. I have loved this film for years and it's always a pleasure to watch whenever it is on the television. The premise of John Landis' Trading Places (1983) is simple - do we get where we are through breeding or circumstance? Trading Places examines this issue in quite an exaggerated way but none the less is does make you think (in amongst the odd giggle) about what if life was different. The film doesn't even try to examine this idea in a clever or complicated way. You wouldn't hear anyone discussing this film and saying "ah but what the film is really about is" or "but this scene represented this idea" it rolls its sleeves up and gets right to the point. I will try not to give too much away but set in Philadelphia in the run up to Christmas...

Take your Break at Wake(hurst Place)

...The other weekend my family and I had a day out and as the weather was nice we decided to visit Wakehurst Place. Wakehurst Place is a National Trust property in West Sussex and is also a part of Kew gardens (despite the distance!). The site is home to an old family house, wonderful extensive gardens, quarries, and even the new Millenium Seed Bank project. Wakehurst Place was a bit of a drive away from where I live (over an hour) but I'd recommend making the effort to get there even if you don't live very close because there's so much to see. ~~Admission~~ My parents are National Trust members, so they got in free, but not so for the rest of us. However, the entry prices really aren't that bad considering what you get for the money. Admission was £9, but they offer special deals for different size groups and it's free...

My First Scalextric Set Having seen the Ad on TV and Boy really desparate for one I thought this the best to go for in the way of remote control race track as at 4 he's really not old enough for a big expensive set so he got this for Christmas. Cost us £30 from Toys'r'Us though can be found in many other stores and on-line, the price is about the same everywhere but you may find it a bit cheaper. Age on box states not suitable for under 3 years, due to small parts and functional sharp edges - we haven't found any particularly sharp bits yet ? so unsure which bits that refers to. Also tells you that new controllers may become warm and emit vapour and give off slight smell -this is normal and disappears after use. Nice ! Our first Race.. The track is easy enough to click together, to create a simple figure of eight...
