Not only and agency

Advantages: Great welcome, always happy to help, always only a call away, always there and on the case to find you work asap.
Disadvantages: none

...In my time I have tried all agencies, Adecco, Blue Arrow, Anne Jagger, Select, First Personal, the job centre and I have found out of all of them Brook Street have been the best, although I never got a placement through them the consultant I had was always trying his hardest to find me a joband whenever he arranged any interviews for me he always got me to come in so he could give me some interview advice and kind of interviewed me himself and gave me some feed back and really prepared me for my interviews. No other agency has gone this far for me. They all give you the details over the phone or via post. Looking for work can be a stressful time and quite difficult, especially if you have to support yourself or a family. My tip is to register with as many agencies as possible let them know three important things which are the type...

Review of Brook Street - Recruiment Agency

Recruitment agencies

Advantages: Employers prefer them
Disadvantages: They lie

...I have tried most of them in my time, having had several periods of unemployment, and I cannot say I've ever encountered one I could trust. They all come at you as the best, most caring, compassionate answer to your job-hunting prayers, and they are completely free to boot. Which ought to start alarm-bells ringing in these money-grubbing times. Of course they're free - to you, because you, the job-seeker (as we are expected to refer to ourselves now) are the fodder. The client is charged, though, and quite heavily, for your services, whereas you are paid at the minimum of - what is it now, following the latest Brownian orgasm of glad-handouts : £4.20 an hour? Agencies charge an average of £7.50 for you. Which most employers would rather pay than take you on full-time at £7 : because they can dump a temp in a moment, whereas there...

Review of Brook Street - Recruiment Agency

Network Agencies- A good experiance

Advantages: Wide spread over North London + Reliable staff
Disadvantages: Not open on Sundays

...My experiance with Network Agencies has been a good one. I have rented from many estate agencies and found that the independant ones like Network Agencies are the best when it comes to renting. I like the fact that they are a family run business, the staff are very helpful and constantly busy which is very important with this kind of work as it is nice to feel appreciated, they made me feel like they really wanted to help me which they did. In terms of maintenance problems, i would call them up if i had any doubts of worries and they would arrange to come out promply and rectify the situation, i never had to wait too long for them to come, of course Moving in and out of their property was very easy, they are very professional yet so down to earth, and they really helped me with some problems i was going through. I maintained...

Review of Network Agencies

Agency work.

Advantages: See text.
Disadvantages: See text.

...I would just like to write a review on agency work under this title, because not only is it something that I have done but I am sure that a lot of people have done of sorts. Although I have actually done this review from a nursing point of view, I am sure that many people will see where it is that I am actually coming from. Advantages of doing agency work: 1. For a start, the pay is a lot better than if you had a permanent job. 2. You can actually choose when you want to work, rather than being dictated to by your boss. For example, if you wake up one day when you have no work on but it is a nice sunny day when you want to go down to the beach (and/ or pub!) then you can actually say that you are not free to work. 3. If you are given only a short assignment in an area that you hate, then you can refuse to go back to work...

3 - 9 Month 'Years' Are The Best...

Advantages: Some great, well-paid jobs out there
Disadvantages: You need to be organized and do your research

...Placement years generally occur during a university degree or immediately precede or follow such a course. They can take place in the UK or abroad, and be longer or shorter in duration than the name would suggest. I?ve had a few of these, one which lasted 12 months and some that were a bit shorter, and the biggest, most important point I can stress is: RESEARCH RESEARCH YOUR OPTIONS: To start off, you need to know exactly what is expected of you. For my placement year I had to have a job, but whether I did that at home or abroad was up to me. I had to stay for at least 10 months, but could stay longer. I had to have a position somewhat related to my degree, but could choose exactly what that was. I know people who study 2 languages and had to spend time in both countries during their year, and others who only had to go to one. I know...

Review of Placement Years in General

Recruitment Agencies - A necessary evil

Advantages: A gateway to potential employers
Disadvantages: There are many poor ones, candidates are effectively forced in to using these

...AI?m sure that you are all aware of the recruitment process so I will not be covering this in my review. Currently I work for an accountancy practice and it has always been my intention to qualify within practice, gain some post qualification experience and then venture out in to the dog eat dog world of industry and commerce. Like many other jobs, accountancy and corporate finance in particular, is a technical and specialised area and in order for employers to attract the right candidates they have to advertise their positions in the most effective place. Unfortunately, this is not perceived to be the local job centre or local newspapers but specialised recruitment agencies, the quality of which differs significantly. The function of a recruitment agency A recruitment agency is designed to assist the employer in...

Getting Indian Visas without an agency

Advantages: Saves money, quick, safe
Disadvantages: Takes a day to do it

...*******August 2008 UPDATE **************** Since originally posting this review it's had over 7000 external hits so clearly people have been reading it. As a result of the complete horlicks that the Consulate and High Commission were making of the visa issuing process in 2007, the decision was taken to outsource the process of issuing Indian visas so that you now have to go through an agency called VFS. I have reviewed this process and if you hunt around on the site you should be able to find it. The below review is now obsolete - read it, (hopefully) enjoy it, but be aware that it's no longer valid. YOU CANNOT GET VISAS FROM THE HCI IN LONDON OR THE CONSULATE IN BIRMINGHAM ANY MORE I would appreciate it members considering rating the review please keep in mind that at the time or writing it was an accurate picture...

Review of General: India

Travcour - the easy way to get your travel visas.

Advantages: Great communication throughout the process, really know their stuff
Disadvantages: Can get expensive if you need lots of visas.

...visas. However, it's ultimately YOUR responsibility to be absolutely sure and I recommend you check the current requirements with the Embassy or High Commission of any country you plan to visit. You can find details using the Foreign and Commonwealth Office website or try googling the country you want to visit along with the word visa and doing some research. OK, so I need a visa, how do I get one? ******************************** Most travel companies will recommend that you use a visa agency and I would agree with that unless you have a lot of time on your hands and live near to a visa-issuing office. I have used the Indian High Consulate in Birmingham to get Indian visas but I had more time than money when I did that and I did a lot of research first. If you are travelling for your employer on business, you can probably let...

Review of Travcour Visa Agency

How many words a minute can you do

Advantages: I find they have quite a lot of work, rates of pay are not bad and you know exactly what you are getting
Disadvantages: temping isn't for everybody

...Once again, I find myself trawling around the temping agencies in Coventry and signing on with some of them and handing out my CV left right and centre. I had a career break to bring up my family, and now Adam has started school full time I want to have a few hours a week work as I don't want to be at home all day, will only sit on the computer all day and not do any housework, so may as well get paid for the pleasure. I only want to work school hours during term time, so I am quite limited as to the placements that I can go out on. I have temped twice before (2 separate periods in my life) and Brook Street was the first Agency that I went back to. Let me take you through the registering process. First of all you call in (most of the time you don't need an appointment). You will be seen by a friendly Recruitment Officer...

Review of Brook Street - Recruiment Agency

More hassle than it is worth - Will harass your references!

Advantages: Large company
Disadvantages: Slow, Hassle, Lie, No communication, Low Pay

...up this so-called job at Brook for the next 2 weeks - sending my phonebill sky high! Who then fob me off, saying, "It's yours, just wait for a bit." -Waiting, waiting, waiting for 4 weeks - Nothing! -Then sign up with other agencies, and they ring about another job, so I turn down 3 jobs in the meantime! --THE JOB-- -Late one evening, I get a call about a job - I accept. -They say they need references, and Criminal checks, for bank work for the last 5 years- fine. -They don't then tell me they'll sort it out, or ask me who I need to contact. Or if they do, they say "Contact your old boss" which I do. And then turn around and say "Oh we did that for you." Despite telling me to do so. -They then go off their own back, and ring my old school, references, and anyone who I may have listed on the off-chance (without my consent...
