I'm Going Places This Year, Are You
Advantages: Good value for money, excellent deals, very helpful staff.
Disadvantages: Have to buy own food. Might have go tit cheaper if booked at last minute.
...I have waited to post this opinion until I had actually booked the holiday, which I did this morning. I wasn’t going to post it first and let you lot beat me to the Travel Agents! Ha! There aint no flies on carolinesite ;-)
Firstly, after writing my opinion about a cruise I had in 1995, I felt I wanted another holiday like that. I picked up a few brochures from the Going Places shop, and sat down with a cup of coffee. I was horrified at how much the prices had gone up in 6 years. They were asking about £1,000 per person for a weeks cruise and a week on land, compared to £650 in 1995. I know prices go up, but a 40% increase in 6 years is disgusting. I gave that idea up.
Next, I looked through the Airtours Summer 2001 brochure. I was mainly looking for All Inclusive holidays, as they are good value for money. I wanted...

Going No Place
Advantages: None
Disadvantages: Inaccurate brochure descriptions and apalling customer service
...holiday we exchanged several letters and phone calls with Going Places regarding suitable offers of compensation. For a holiday that cost £450 each we were offered £50 in total. The process of complaining became so tiresome that we did not end up even accepting that.
Overall I was shocked and disappointed with the appalling customer service of such a well known and established company. I have refused to book through them since....

Going to School - another term starts!
Advantages: A lovely book offering an insight into a child's first day at school.
Disadvantages: None
.... They have great fun making things, singing songs and playing musical instruments. They have a break time and a story time before going into the playground outside.
I enjoyed reading this book to my granddaughter because there are questions asked in the text which helped her focus on the detailed illustrations to look for the answers. There is also a duck to find in each of the brilliant illustrations which we had great fun trying to find. Stephen Cartwright certainly knows how to depict a colourful detailed and humorous illustration with plenty of detail to talk about and focus on. The characters are appealing and the picture in the classroom is very realistic to how I remember all the activities on offer and the chaos that happens when children are let loose with glue!.
The attention to detail is very appealing especially Polly...

Going Places - Rhyl, North Wales
Advantages: Friendly Staff - Is nothing to much for them?
Disadvantages: Could do with more staff working there
...plan which we found bareable to pay (I don't like paying for things - so bareable is v. good!)
The staff were so friendly and each one was ready to give an opinion on our destination and those that we didn't pick. A case of "My mother went there and said it was best for young ones" or "That was a great place - one of the nicest beaches I've been on" etc
Great advice about weather and currency was given, and I felt that they really cared that you had a good holiday. Whilst there on that day, they had an influx of people coming in to thank them for a great holiday, giving their views on the accomodation, area etc... and they were genuinely interested to hear it all.
Every time I went in to pay, they wold remember me and where I was to go and would ask me if I was exited and let me know the opinions of people that had just come...

Going Places..oh yes we are
Advantages: Really friendly staff
Disadvantages: none at all
...I have never felt compelled to write about a travel agency until today. I was very lucky to find Going Places to book my holiday but I learnt the hard way, I had spent two hours trundling from one to the next and found the other agencies to be useless.
I wasnt an easy customer, I wanted to go to an exact park in France, I had two weeks to play with but the departure had to be a Sunday crossing.
I knew of three companies who used the park but not the name of the other two.
I had drawn a blank and had in fact resigned to another week in Cornwall when I noticed Going Places offered free refreshments when requesting a quote...enough to grab my attention.
Well a nice cup of tea and my woes about not going away when the aassistant found all the available sites I asked for, was able to offer a really good deal and even got it...

GOING FOR GOLD
Advantages: friendly staff
Disadvantages: forgetful staff
...PRE HOLIDAY ACTION!
My local Going Places had a advertising drive last year on discounted American holidays. Naturally, being a US 'virgin' I was intrigued by the sign which plastered "Going Place, for 30% less" and so my girlfriend and I booked 10 days in Florida, staying on the beach for a week (Clearwater) and then travelling up to the Theme Parks in Orlando. The staff at our local branch were very helpful, if a little over enthusiastic, and had all appeared to have visited, travelled or stayed in the actual beds we were to be sleeping in at some time in their lives, cue "you must do this, you must do that, you'll love it, I loved it, my nan had a great time, you can't leave this out, you can't leave that out etc etc etc". Their somewhat prescriptive attidue to holiday making is a little off putting, but overall you do feel as...

The Simpsons Go To Hollywood Review
Advantages: Amazing writing, full of memorable moments
Disadvantages: None
...The Simpsons - Classics - Go to Hollywood is a collection of four episodes including some new, and some classic ones. The episodes included are "When You Dish Upon a Star", "Fear of Flying", "Krusty Gets Kancelled" and "Flaming Moes".
"When You Dish Upon a Star" has Homer, through some bizarre accident, becoming the personal assistant to Alec Baldwin and Kim Basinger, who are staying in a secluded home in Springfield. After he becomes fired for telling his friends about who he's working for, he launches "the museum of Hollywood jerks" with various undergarments etc. With all celebrities in The Simpsons, they are never afraid of poking fun at each other, and both have some good lines together. Ron Howard makes another appearance and is again hilarious, especially when he steals Homer's film idea and the "Happy Days" theme plays...

Where the Lost Things Go? A Place Called Here . . .
Advantages: Hearing the 'authentic' Irish Accent; the abridging makes the story less meandering
Disadvantages: Some of the incidental plot nuances are lost in the abridging; have to change discs.
...I must confess that I was bought the Paperback version of this book first . . . my husband bought a "Best Seller" at the library that was being sold off for 50p and I read it the same night. It was one 'off the wall' book which really struck a chord with me, as my husband often 'tears the house apart" looking for something he mislays; and sometimes it doesn't turn up at all . . . . Or I am looking for a particular CD or Cassette, and I can find the case ~ but it is empty ~ Where HAVE all the lost things gone? Well, it's A Place Called Here according to this book by Dublin-born Cecelia Ahern. She's got some wacky theories, but this one is pretty amazing!
.
I really did want to hear this in the "original tongue" (Oirr-ish*) as it were, though, and having an Amazon voucher to spend, I couldn't resist buying the audio version...

Can I go to School now?
Advantages: Gently introduces a child to what school will be like
Disadvantages: None
...BACKGROUND
As some of you already know, my little boy attends nursery. Once a week they give him a book to bring home to read through with parents. If I get chance, I try to write a review on the book before it goes back.
PRODUCT
One book he brought home was entitled 'Going to School'. It is one of the Usborne first experiences book. The price on the back of the book is £3.99, but both Play.com and Amazon have it for sale on their websites for between £1.00 to £2.50. The book is written by Anne Civardi and illustrated by Stephen Cartwright. The ISBN for this paperback is 0 7460 4125X.
THE STORY
The story centres on the Peach family, or to be more precise, Percy and Polly Peach. Percy and Polly are due to start school for the first time, along with Millie, whose family (the Marsh family), live next door to...

Fries to go, the perfect tool for bribery!
Advantages: My kids love them.
Disadvantages: I don't!
...Well as this is a chip review you can guess whose favourite these are, yes you've guessed it my kids absolutely adore these so who am I to refuse! Actually they like them so much it is now classed as one of those bribery tools to get them to behave!
The product I will now review is "Original fries to go".
I hadn't heard of these chips until my mother brought them from Asda one day. My mum used to be my main childcare for my daughter and for a short time my son, so she was always trying to get them fed and watered before she had to go to work and also to save me a job when I had finished an 8 hour shift, my mums always been great!
Discovering my children's penchant for chips, especially McDonalds fries, she found if she cooked a box of these, split it between the two of them and served it with vegetables and maybe a fish finger...
