A good place to start

Advantages: Good starting point, provides feedback on exercises and good for monitoring your progress
Disadvantages: Inability to link exercises together to build up a routine and might get too easy over time.

...I bought Wii fit to improve my balance and core strength. I find the muscle excercises and yoga do this quite well. This isn't an 'easy' option for getting fit/slim at home. You will have to work at it and use it regularly to see any benifits, just like any other form of exercise. However it is quite useful when it comes to monitoring your progress. You start off by inputting your personal detail such as gender, height and age, these are used in the software to monitor your BMI and your Wii fit age. You can do a body test every day which will weigh you whilst monitoring your balance for a few seconds. You will then be told your BMI and have the option of viewing your weight, a handy feature if you have family members around and you don't wish for them to know your weight. You can then do two random balance games which will then lead...

Review of Wii Fit (Wii)

A journey of 1000 miles begins with a single step

Advantages: Inspirational
Disadvantages: You want to give up your job to achieve your dreams!

..."Unforgettable Places to see before you die" is of course a book of dreams for many an armchair traveller. But most of us like to pick up a book like this, I am guessing, and flick through to see just how many of the places contained within that we have managed to visit. (Or maybe that is just me, who knows!) Published by BBC Books in 2004, this book can of course only ever be a subjective view of the best places to visit in the world. The author, Steve Davey, makes no apologies for leaving out Paris but including Venice, for example. What it does hopefully do, is inspire a few dreams, and give the reader thought into visiting places, that perhaps they had not considered. Any of the places in the book can be reached on a two week holiday, albeit they might not all be as cheap as a fortnight in Majorca. On the other hand though, I...

Would you like to trade places

Advantages: Funny, intelligent comedy
Disadvantages: They don't make them like this anymore

...This is one of my comfort films - the sort I put on when I'm not feeling very well. I have loved this film for years and it's always a pleasure to watch whenever it is on the television. The premise of John Landis' Trading Places (1983) is simple - do we get where we are through breeding or circumstance? Trading Places examines this issue in quite an exaggerated way but none the less is does make you think (in amongst the odd giggle) about what if life was different. The film doesn't even try to examine this idea in a clever or complicated way. You wouldn't hear anyone discussing this film and saying "ah but what the film is really about is" or "but this scene represented this idea" it rolls its sleeves up and gets right to the point. I will try not to give too much away but set in Philadelphia in the run up to Christmas...

Off to read my book!

Advantages: wonderful story, educational, attractive, cheap
Disadvantages: /

...brought out for fans to enjoy. Among the dolls and collectors? cards, there was a variety of books to be bought. You had your annuals, and your books about Salem, as well as the Sabrina Hand Book (yes, it was in the shape of a hand!). But the collection that I find the most exciting is the books that tell Sabrina?s stories, focusing on her life rather than say from Salem?s point of view. Although I never read them as a child, over the last few years I have been able to build up my collection, and I must say, I enjoy them incredibly now! In this selection there are a little over fifty numbered books, as well as a few special edition options. Book number # is ?Off to See the Wizard?. Before I read any book I will check the author to see if I have heard of them. The Sabrina books are written by a series of authors, and this one in particular is...

The Best & Worse Places In The UK

Advantages: I wrote it!
Disadvantages: No biscuits ;o(

...announced to the driver I was going to Byker, he laughed for what seemed like 2 minutes before driving off. As I left his cab he said "Be Really Careful!" Byker shopping area is one long drag of shops which look like they have not changed since the 70's. You can here mothers with uncontrollable children from the other end of the street screaming and hitting their kids. 5) Grays, Essex - The only word to sum up Grays for me is Excrement. The shopping centre smells of sewage from 7-10am most days. The shops are absolutely dire, you could see all in about 7 minutes. And the people address you as if they are part of the elite. There are not army's of drug addicts all over the place which is the only good thing for going for Grays. But I sincerely hope I never have to go there for as long as I live. 6) Stockton On Tees, Cleveland - Again...

The Place to be?

Advantages: Convenient Location, Overall reasonable range of facilities
Disadvantages: Keen to raise prices though

...I've been a member of Holmes Place in Maidenhead now for some years. It's conveniently located for me near to work, so it's an ideal place to go at lunchtime to prevent me wandering around the shops and frittering my money on things I don't really need. There are two types of membership - peak and off peak. Peak means you can go in whenever you want, and off peak restricts you to being able to go in any time during weekdays up to 4.30pm and any time at weekends. Up until last month I was paying £44 a month for off peak membership. I understand that peak membership is £48 a month but this is for corporate membership. Membership is higher still for non-corporate members. I'm lucky, because my medical insurance now allows me membership at £25 a month peak, which is significantly cheaper. As far as facilities go, it's not too...

50 places to dive - to start with at least!

Advantages: A fresh perspective, some good pictures
Disadvantages: Quite small, biassed towards US and Caribbean

...My first reaction on receiving this book in the post was surprise - I thought it would be much bigger than it is. The websites left me imagining a coffee-table book; it could be, but doesn't have the breadth of pictures that many do and is a lot smaller than most. What it does have is a lot of ideas, some more original than others. The book is fairly square-shaped - basically the width is the same as an A4 book, it's just a lot shorter. It's not as lavishly illustrated as I'd hoped, but there are a number of decent pictures. Most of the individual reviews are 3-5 pages long, with one illustration - but some have none. The format of this book is that it's 50 reviews of places by individual writers, rather than all written by the same author. It forms part of a series of "50 best", all edited by Chris Santella. As such, it has...

The Place to See Painted Enamels

Advantages: Wonderful enamels collection. Central location.
Disadvantages: Industrialised.

...If you associate painted enamels exclusively with France, Italy and China, you would only be partially correct. England, too, has a very proud tradition of enamelware and one of the best places to see these fine products is Wolverhampton. The area around Wolverhampton was one of the greatest centres in Europe for the crafting of wonderful painted enamels. So if you only associated Wolverhampton with soccer - the Wolves- or athletics with Wolverhampton and Bilston AC-think again, products of great beauty as well great utility have been produced in the "Black Country". When French craftsmen, fleeing religious persecution in their homeland, sought refuge across the English Channel, they brought the art of enameling with them. Some settled in the English Midlands town of Bilston (then located in County Staffordshire), and near...

The place to see

Advantages: Something for everyone
Disadvantages: can be crowded and tiring

...For any tourist either from other parts of the UK or overseas, London is the place to visit, with a mutitude of parks, theatres, excellent shops, historic buildings, art galleries, the Milleneum Dome ,you are almost spolit for choice as to where to go first. Wear comfortable shoes and try not to do everything all in one day, well it would be impossible to cover it all in a week ,yet alone 24 hours. Guided tours either walking or on a bus are freely available and with give any tourist a more general idea of the main attractions, plus plenty of photo opportunities....

A great place to experience Northwest culture

Advantages: Good food, unique craft products, good portrayal of Northwest culture, lively
Disadvantages: Expensive parking, overcrowded on weekends

...Since its opening in 1907, Pike Place market has been the place for local farmers, bakers, butchers, and all sort of crafts people to showcase their products. From fresh Washington apples, to the famous fish market, it is one of the best places to sample Seattle?s unique cuisine. The market itself is full of produce stands containing fruit, vegetables, pastas, honey and jams, flowers and various crafts. A definite must see is the famous fish vendors who throw the fish back and forth as customers watch. Below the market are various shops selling trinkets and collectables and restaurants serving ethnic foods as well as local staples such as salmon and clam chowder. The market can get extremely crowded on weekends, particularly in summer, so I would recommend a weekday visit. While it may seem a little gritty or deteriorated, to me this...
