A visit to Scotland Street

Advantages: Entertaining, a light read
Disadvantages: Plot was a bit thin

...Background Alexander McCall Smith is a Rhodesian born Scottish writer, born in 1948, and now native to Edinburgh, which is of course the setting for this book. Alexander is in fact an accomplished academic, currently residing as a Professor at Edinburgh Law School but having many impressive academic feats to his name including being the former Chairman of the British Medical Journal?s ethics committee. I mention all of this not only to prove I can do my research, but also to help give one an insight into the talent behind the book. In fact without giving the contents of this review away too soon, I was quite surprised to find out Mr McCall Smith was such a man of standing and literary accomplishment as in places the plot of this book is somewhat thin. I didn?t actually buy this book. My Aunty back in Liverpool bought this for me...

The Best & Worse Places In The UK

Advantages: I wrote it!
Disadvantages: No biscuits ;o(

...go for the interview area. The third piece of writing on the list was in English. I left 3 hours later and it was dark. I was again followed to my Docklands Light Railway connection. This time one actually tried to pick my pocket. But a cry from me of "Get your f**king hand off me you piece of sh1t" soon sent them packing. I would sooner be chucked off the top of a cliff in a barrel than visit Lewisham again. 3) Camborne, Cornwall - There are some things that Camborne are proud of, one of which is that they have the highest underage pregnancy rate in the whole of Europe, Don't they have tellys? The other is that they are very close knit. I believe they are so close knit that some may be related twice if you get me? Camborne is a generally unpleasant place. Very dark and grotty it looks like something out of the League Of Gentleman...

Review of 10 best places to visit in Britian

10 PLACES I MISS.

Advantages: They make memories.
Disadvantages: The cost of getting there.

...hand made articles, to antiques, from delicious cakes, to charity stalls, the market offers an afternoon of browsing and it really doesn't matter what kind of weather it is because it is under cover. Going back to the streets of Tavistock, there is a wide choice of shops, and a particularly nice place to stop off for afternoon tea with superbly made cakes. If you find the pace a little too much, there is respite here in the Bedford Hotel just off the square because you can have your afternoon coffee or tea in the hotel, in sumptuous surroundings at the same cost per cup as you would pay in a crowded cafe. They serve it in a coffee pot and you get a good couple of cups in an atmosphere of yesteryear. LYNTON AND LYNMOUTH This really is a place I love to visit, though not so much during the day. I like this place in the early summer...

Lands End To John O'Groats

Advantages: Great days out, great memories
Disadvantages: By products

...One of my Christmas presents was a book called "Crap Towns" which was basically a countdown on the 50 worst towns in Britain as voted by people on the Idler website. That book has inspired me to compile a list of my best and worst towns through my own experiences, starting here with the best 10 places in Great Britain that I have visited (the worst 10 will be forthcoming shortly). Heres my own countdown based on my PERSONAL experiences for the best 10 places to visit in the U.K. 10. BEDFORD (Bedfordshire) I worked in Bedford for four years, it's in the Tory heartland with a prestigious history so you'd expect a snobbish town - not the case, even though it does have a public school and plush areas. It's very diverse, a big Italian community (whose mafia control all the crime in the town), a largish asian community, lots...

Inverness as a place to visit

Advantages: Plenty activities, good nightlife at weekends, safe, scenic,
Disadvantages: weekday evening entertainment can be a bit poor,

...here to visit and get a wee tipple from. also a fantastic whisky shop in town. Inverness is a great base to go from to hire a car and just explore for yourself why not head up the west coast where the countryside has not been spoilt and experience breathtaking views, sandy beaches and caves. Wookie caves in durness is a few hours drive but has some incredible sights and caves to explore. There is also a great selection of eating places in inverness from all you can eat buffets for a fixed price to 4 or 5* restaurants an indian restaurant where gordon ramsay himself signed a proudly mounted note of thanks for a f*&@ing great meal. I've been and tried it too and it is rather good i must admit and i like my food more than i should. Inverness tends to offer a wide range of activities however they tend to be within a 10 radius...

Where to watch birds in Scotland

Advantages: Lots of useful information
Disadvantages: Quite large and bulky, expensive

...on the most important habitats where Scotland's rarest birds are most likely to be found. One of the joys of bird watching is never knowing exactly what might turn up where but there are certain key sites like Fair Isle in the Shetlands where ultra rare vagrants are guaranteed annually in Spring and Autumn. Fair Isle attracts hundreds of bird watchers known as "twitchers" every year, and yes a lot of them do wear waterproof anoraks. However, other places like the wild north west of the Scottish mainland and the islands of the inner and outer Hebrides are only visited by a few bird watchers each year so many rarities must certainly go unrecorded. This book tries to strike a balance between both those well known bird watching sites and the many lesser known ones. Scotland is a vast country of varying landscape and habitat. From the highest...

The most beautiful place in Scotland

Advantages: A great getaway place for relaxation
Disadvantages: Is a small island so is limiting

...**What Is It?** The Isle of Islay lyes on the West Coast of Scotland. This beautiful little Island hosts everything from distilleries to wildlife to golf. An amazing get away. **My Personnel Experience** My first trip to Islay was when i was only 8. I don't really remember it that well but i remember absolutely loving it! Then over the years i have been 4 times more and now that i'm 15 (getting close to 16) i hope to go again. Islay is very special to me, as all my other friends went to Spain or the USA, I was living it up on a 4 degrees beach! But still loved it. **How Do You Pronounce That?** When i first when to Islay i wasn't all that sure how to say it as you could say it the Scots Gaelic way 'Eye-la' or the English way which is 'Eye-lay' So really as long as you say it one or the other you should be fine and not confuse...

A Nice Place To Visit...

Advantages: Great weather
Disadvantages: 5th Avenue is oh so touristy

...there (a bonus for people who don't speak the language, as everyone does indeed speak English, but kinda a pain at the same time) and now that I've moved on I know I made the right choice. It's a nice place to visit...but you wouldn't want to live there. ------------------------------------------ - ------------------------------------------- *** Boring / Useful Stuff *** At the moment (summer 08) £1 = $2 = 20 pesos, mas o menos. My bible for my first few days and my obsession in the months leading up to my trip was this interactive: www. travelyucatan.com / playadelcarmenmexico / playadelcarmenmap.gif The electricity supply in Playa is tempremental, as is the case in much of Mexico. Power cuts are common, as are power-surges. If you take anything electrical (e.g. a laptop) invest in a 80 peso surge protector when...

Great place to visit.

Advantages: Free, lots to see
Disadvantages: None

...Block is open from July to September and the tour times are 10-5.15. The outside tours run from the end of June to September. At other times you can pick up a leaflet for a self-guided tour around the Hill. THE VISIT: We actually made 3 visits to the buildings. I will tell you about each in turn. 1. The Centre Block When we first arrived the first thing that we noticed was how much the building looked like the British Houses of Parliament. They both have the same gothic feel with the main difference being that this one has 2 seperate blocks as well as the Centre Block. In front of these is Canada's Centenial Flame. Like most people I thought that this was an Enternal Flame so I was puzzled when it looked unlit. Apparently, however, it goes out all the time with the weather. We were relieved to see it lit the next day! It...

Review of Radisson Hotel Parliament Hill Ottawa, Ottawa

A good place to start

Advantages: Good starting point, provides feedback on exercises and good for monitoring your progress
Disadvantages: Inability to link exercises together to build up a routine and might get too easy over time.

...to giving you your Wii fit age. There are four categories of 'games', yoga, muscle exercises, cardio and balance games. The yoga starts extremely easy i.e. breathing but quickly gets much harder and more demanding. The muscle exercises seem to work a wide variety of muscles and vary in difficulty. If you're finding them too easy there's the option to increase the number of reps. The cardio seems to be more about rythm than actually working out, particulary the rythm boxing and step game. The balance games are just a bit of fun, and are better as a group exercise. While it provides a good starting place for exercise, I think the option to build workout routines would be really handy because it gets quite annoying moving through the menus and listening to the introduction and feedback for every activity you do, and makes your workout time...
