Battle of the Planet of the Apes

Advantages: Tim Burton's vision, great designs, special effects
Disadvantages: Not as exciting as it could be, although never dull

...it would be difficult to tell as we would constantly be comparing it to the original. Well, as usual, the answer is money. There is no artistic reason, no matter what the producers might argue. Franklin J. Schaffner and Charlton Heston did the job perfectly well the first time. But, Universal know that they have a hit commodity on their hands. Rather than risk millions of dollars developing a new script that might result in a movie that nobody wants to see, better to rehash an old idea that will have an expectant audience, interested to see it no matter what. Planet Of The Apes - The Return

Advantages: Great Boxset, well illustrated
Disadvantages: Nothing

...As a child growing up I remember watching a film with Charlton Heston battling through a corn field being chased by Gorillas. Since then the film 'Planet of the Apes' has always had a special place in my film collection, as it was one of my late fathers favourite films. This special edition has lots of extras (which I will cover later). The boxset has been well designed and has each of the five films (1 film per disc) and a sixth disc containing the special features. Together with a program guide inside. The presentation box is very nice, folding outwards from the centre with a different picture on each disc, which is a scene from that film. ...The Movie Being a fan of all things Planet of the Apes, I was eagerly looking forward to the 2001 remake of the classic. I've seen the originals more times than I can remember, still have many of the Planet of the Apes magazines from the 70's, and have seen all of the episodes of the short-lived TV series. When I finally finished watching Tim Burton's version of the story, I walked out with mixed feelings. The film did some things very well, but it didn't really have the spirit that made the original so interesting. This new Planet of the Apes takes the core idea of the story (human astronaut lands on a planet controlled by talking monkeys), but twists it and "reimagines" it into a new movie with quite a different theme. ...Now you must of heard about these films one way or another - having such a huge legacy and all. Not only is there the five original films, but the original novel, the re-imagined film version in 2001, the TV and cartoon series not to mention the comics and such. As for the original five film though, I love them, maybe you do too, but if you don?t here?s what you?ve (so far) missed... Disadvantages: Unresolved story line, thanks to cancellation of the series

...After the success of the 'Planet of the Apes' film franchise, and after several films had brought the storyline almost full circle, it seems with hindsight only natural for the producers and studio to decide to extend the success of this series onto television. ..."Hey dude you busy tonight?" is what i first heard when i was orignally invited to go see planet of the apes. I had no particular desire to go and see the film orignally but thought it would be something to do. I had heard some people raving about how good it was, others saying how bad it was and that the orignals were far better. So i figured this would be as good a time as any to see for myself. Planet of the Apes Movie Review

Advantages: Incredible special effects, very funny, superb.
Disadvantages: Some find the ending very confusing and somewhat depressing. However for me this made the film even better.

...The Film: Planet of the Apes tells the story of a rather reckless astronaut (Mark Wahlberg) who ends up transported hundreds of years into the future whilst trying to save his colleague (a monkey). He crash lands to find himself on a planet that is ruled by apes and humans are treated as slaves. He is soon captured by these Apes but is soon rescued by a friendly ape (Helena Bonham Carter).
