Plymouth Hoe Hoe

Advantages:
Disadvantages:

...I have just come back from Plymouth and I am glad I had a genuine reason for going there. I cannot say it is a place that I would rush to on holiday. The roads up to the outskirts were much better than when I last visited 30 years ago when, whatever direction you came from, you spent most of your time in or around Exeter. Or is it that fewer people now go there? However, the roads in Plymouth itself were much worse than I remembered and you need to be a local to get where you are going. The Hoe? Yes I went there and was most disapponted. It seemed uninteresting and dirty. Shopping was Ok but not as good as I had been led to believe. I expect this will be my last visit....

Plymouth Copthore Hotel

Advantages: Great Location
Disadvantages: More of a Good 3* Hotel than a 4* Hotel.

.... There is a small charge for this (about £3 or £4 per day). I have stayed at B&B's on Plymouth Hoe, and they still charge for residential parking, so the rate at the Copthorne isn't that bad. It is located at the top end of the town. This means it is great to explore Plymouth - the shopping is on your doorstep, and Plymouth Hoe and Barbican are about a 10 minute walk away. It is also away from the bars/pubs that are at the lower end of town, so noise disturbance is surprisingly low for a town center hotel. When you check out, you are more than welcome to leave bags at reception for the rest of the day (whilst you finish shopping/sightseeing) Con's : There is a whopping great big Sainsbury's (and car park) next door. We once got given a ground floor room overlooking the sainsbury's public car park. We could have managed - but...

Samphire Hoe

Advantages: lots to see and do
Disadvantages: Can be chilly when its windy

...Living in Dover me and my girlfriend visit Samphire Hoe a few times throughout the year to walk our dogs or just for a stroll around this site and the beach beyond. Samphire Hoe. The Hoe itself was made from 4.9 million cubic metres of chalk marl which was dug from the channel tunnel in its construction. The site is actually owned by Euro tunnel and is managed in partnership with the White Cliffs project. Inside Samphire Hoe, you can follow the pathed walks, look ay wildflowers, do a spot of birdwatching or fishing and there are also picnic areas dotted around the site. Gaining Entry. Entry to the Hoe is from the A20 motorway on the west bound carriage way to London. There is a well signposted slip road and when you reach this you have to stop at a set of traffic lights. These are in place purely as the single tunnel which...

A Bad Nights Sleep at Plymouth Travelodge

Advantages: Good location
Disadvantages: Lumpy Beds, Noisy

...A recent trip to Plymouth meant I needed to book a hotel for the night for me and my partner - but due to low funds it needed to be something cheap and cheerful. Enter the local Travelodge. I have to admit to having never stayed in a Travelodge before, but had heard that they were a cheap alternative. ~~Price~~ I have to say that I was quite shocked at how much one night would cost as I have stayed in cheaper and more luxurious places than this before. Unfortunately we couldn?t find a room anywhere else in Plymouth for that night due to various events that were taking place in the city. The Travelodge we eventually looked at didn?t have any standard double rooms available so we had to go with the family room which ended up costing us £79! I have to say these are not the type of prices I am used to hearing people quote when...

Food with a View

Advantages: Great views.
Disadvantages: Pay for the car park!

...Well this week resulted in me finally completing the sale to purchase my new house in Cornwall, but the only problem was that Cornwall is still into the holiday season so most hotels were still fully booked up. HELP! What was I to do as being disabled; many Guest Houses and Bed and Breakfasts are unsuitable for my needs. So after looking on the Internet, I found a room at Plymouth Hoe Moat House Hotel. On arriving at Plymouth Hoe Moat House Hotel you can drop off at the hotel entrance but must go behind the hotel to park in either the underground car park or alternatively in the external car park. There seems to be reasonably ample car parking space, but during the height of the holiday season I think parking places are at a premium. Well there are two hundred and ten bedrooms in this quality hotel, which is situated both close to...

A Ruud little Hoe

Advantages: long waterproofed shaft, durable, soil doesn't stick to the blade
Disadvantages: none

...Without wanting to come across as a bit of a Neverbend fanatic, all of my garden tools have over time been replaced by the Neverbend range for a number of reasons, primarily though because they last and last despite the abuses dished out every spring, summer and autumn. Leave then in the rain for a few days and you won't find yourself with rust on a stick a few weeks later requiring another expensive visit to the garden centre. The Neverbend Stainless Dutch Hoe won't speak to you in an amusing voice or try and sleep with you in exchange for money but it will make the removal and cutting of weeds in your flower beds much easier which leaves much more time to enjoy the fruits of your labour. I bought my Neverbend Stainless Dutch Hoe from my local garden centre for £14.99. As with all of the Neverbend range it is a touch more expensive...

Plymouth

Advantages: Sea and country not far apart
Disadvantages: Old city miles from the rest of UK

...I was born and bred in Plymouth and moved away at 26 years old because of work. I visit family about once a month and in my mind Plymouth is the best city in the world, but it does have faults. I have attemped to give an insight in Plymouth under varying sub headings so the reader can pick out info relevant to them. HISTORY Plymouth has alot of it. The Pilgrim Fathers sailed from here from Mayflower steps, still evident today. The most famous person is Sir Francis Drake who led the battle against the spanish armada from his bout the Golden Hind. His home Buckland Abbey is only a few miles inland towards Dartmoor. Allegedly, Sir Frances finished his games of bowls before sailing, but apparently it was low water and he could not sail even if he wanted to. Upon the famous Plymouth Hoe is a statue honouring him. Another large piece...

My moat therapy

Advantages: Affordable high class hotel, friendly and helpful staff and good position.
Disadvantages: Lack of mini bar.

...I have just returned from Plymouth. I went for my sisters hen night and my wonderful husband booked me into a crown room at the Moat House Hotel on the Hoe at Plymouth. He went to visit his mother with our four children. I arrived late Friday evening and quickly and effortlessly I was directed to my room for the weekend. After dumping my bags I then preceded to the restaurant to have my long awaited for evening meal. I had telephoned at about 7.30pm that evening requesting a table for 9pm. I waited a couple of minutes to be shown to my table, which seemed like an eternity as I had not eaten all day. I was seated by a window, which had it not been dark, I would have seen the sea. My booking had been a leisure weekend booking so I had the choice of three set meal. I was quickly offered a drink and due to my husbands instructions I...

Variable service - But great value!

Advantages: Great views, Affordable High class hotel, Lovely room, Great position
Disadvantages: Hit and miss service, corridor cleanliness

...Having just returned from a very enjoyable stay at the Plymouth Hoe Moat House Hotel, I've decided it would make a good choice for my second review - Having suffered with writers block since my first one! My Partner booked the stay as a surprise for my birthday and when booking upgraded to a family crown room - Although I'd like to think it was out of the goodness in his heart, there was actually a special offer on and It cost us £300 for a long weekend stay, which we though was very reasonable for what we received. We brought the little'uns too, so overall there was the four of us. My mother then several weeks later decided to tag along, so she stayed in a 'normal room'. So this gives me the chance to give you both views of the hotel. First Impressions Upon arriving at the hotel - which isn't the easiest to find, so your...

Hotels.

Advantages: Top quality hotel offering stunning views.
Disadvantages: Doesn't look very nice from the outside.

...Now under the remit of Holiday Inn once again, this hotel is based right up on the top of Plymouth Hoe. Offering all of the facilities that you could ask for in a hotel - bedrooms; top class restaurant; leisure facilities; right next to the city centre, and overlooking one of the best bays in the country at least. Although it doesn't look very nice from the oustide, once you step inside you realise that your first impressions were wrong. And what is even better is that the restaurant is on the top floor with windows on 3 sides - offering you views from the rolling Devon countryside on one side, through the glorious sea views with naval ships, cross-channel ferries and other smaller floating vessels, to the rolling Cornish hills and countryside on the other. The majoirty of bedrooms also have these views, whoch are outstanding to wake up...
