TomTom Wireless GPS Receiver 20 channel GPS receiver module

...I dont have a 20 channel receiver however I do have a 12 channel receiver which came in the box with my Tom Tom Navigator 5 for PDA, whichi I use in my Treo 680 Smart Phone. The whole thing works perfectly and I couldn't ask for more as Sat Nav goes. The GPS receiver looks identical to the 20 channel one shown here and if this one works as well as mine does then you can't go wrong. It has a matt cover which makes it stay put where ever you place it on the dashboard and in use I've found that it picks up a signal very quickly and once linked to the PDA by bluetooth it keeps the signal so long as it can see just a tiny bit of sky. Once linked I take the unit off the dash and place it on the floor of the car in between the seats and it keeps the signal through motorway tunnels and even during a traffice halt under a bridge! This is because It is not a good idea to leave the SAT NAV in the car when parked, so I have to take the cable out if I park somewhere dodgy, like city centres. And whilst the PDA is of inferior quality the Sat Nav element of the Mitac is most definitely not. If any of the readers of this review have ever had to sync an external GPS receiver to a PDA then they will appreciate what an excellent feature this is. I used to have a Toshiba PDA and separate GPS receiver. Good idea for Satellite Navigation

...Why did I buy one of these? Well a colleague of mine has a newer iPaq with Sat Nav installed and I was suitably impressed. So I investigated about getting one for myself. However I was not prepared to pay £400 and upwards for the pleasure. Fortunately there was a guy at work selling one for £80 (bargain) that had hardly been used and HP were selling the NavMan GPS kits for £110 inc VAT and delivery. So Sat Nav for under £200, excellent. Obviously for this price there was a downside, the CoPilot software used for the Sat Nav was version 3.0, I believe the latest version is 5.0. Note that it's big a problem but some new roads/ roundabout may not be on it so I have to be aware of what is about!
