Lines Written Above Tintern Abbey, a beautiful poem by Wordsworth

Advantages: A beautifully written poem that can be read over and over to bring the reader a sense of peace
Disadvantages: A rather long poem that can be tedious to get through

...?secluded? Wordsworth is able to illustrate this image of a safe haven. It also creates the undertone of a sense of privacy, where Wordsworth can be undisturbed by the goings on of the turbulent world around him. This image is juxtaposed to Wordsworth?s descriptions of the lonely rooms in London. His love and need for nature is illustrated by his ability to return to his memories of his visits to the countryside, from which he draws strength. Lines 40-50 reinforce this idea, as Wordsworth describes nature?s ability to leave mankind dumbstruck with awe by the power and influence of nature. This illustrates nature?s ability to leave man without cares or concerns as the ?heavy and weary weight? of the world is removed by its awesome power. The symbiotic relationship between man and nature is illustrated when early in the poem Wordsworth...

A Poem

Advantages: Ahhh, I'm a soppy old git
Disadvantages: I mean, cough, I am a tough gruff man. See me roar. ROAR!

...Hello, Fat Tony here, your friendly neighborhood gangster man. Yesterday, after a hard day of busting caps and boxing beats, I saw that a good friend of mine was feeling down. She's had a bad weekend. She's been incredible to me over the past few months, and wrote a very lovely poem for me which can be found at my MySpace. After chatting to her for a while, I decided it'd be nice if I wrote a poem to show how much I love her as a friend, and how much I appreciate her. So, I came up with this. It's entitled simply, "A Poem". Please bear in mind it's my first ever poem.... I'm more of a "There was a young blank from blank" guy, so... be nice ;-) ---=--- A POEM I wanted to write a poem, write a poem just for you For blue you seem to be and all you seem to be is blue But poems aren't my strength, they aren't my strength...

A poem

Advantages: It's a poem
Disadvantages: I wrote it

...A couple of people had mentioned to me that they'd like to see me write something in the Ciao Café, so after searching through all the topics up for discussion and not finding anything I felt particularly comfortable writing about, I decided to take the easy way out and post one of my poems. I've never showed any of my poetry to anyone before, so it feels rather strange putting it up here for all to see, but I'd love to hear what you think. This is not a 'poem of misunderstanding' as such, but I couldn't find a poetry category where I felt it really fit, so I've placed it here as I think it suits it better than any of the other categories available. So, here goes?? I died once, for a moment. Wasn't painful, wasn't long. I saw it; where I'm headed, where I'll end up when I'm gone. I never thought it mattered, what I...

A Mad Poem

Advantages: Something to read
Disadvantages: That will be up to you

...I must confess I like mucking about with poetry, I excelled at it in school, however afterwards my literary skills took a downward direction. So this will be my interpretation of a mad poem. My head fills with inexplicable thoughts, They invade every avenue of my brain, Like ships that traverse to many ports, They come and go while I remain, Locked in some time warp of space, Sometimes no expression on my face. Dark and gloomy aliens ravage my head, I play host to all who trespass my mind, They have no meaning they are not lead, They inhabit every area they can find, Not even the usual comfort of sleep, Prevents me having to weep. Why oh why do I submit to their will , Can I not withstand their force, When my mind is not blank and still...

Upon Westminster Bridge-Wordsworth/London-Blake

Advantages: Memorable poem!
Disadvantages: N/A

...Compare and contrast Wordsworth's and Blake's poems. What do the poems tell you about the differing attitudes towards the city? The two poems tell us a lot about the poet's respective attitudes towards the city. We learn of their (occasionally) differing attitudes towards industrialisation, nature and the like. We can observe how the two poets have used different techniques such as structure, rhyme, imagery etc. to enhance their messages. The poet William Wordsworth was born in 1770 and by the time he died on Shakespeare day in 1850 he had influenced English poetry as a whole by producing some of the greatest works in history. He was educated at grammar school and lived much of his life in amongst the northern lakes in the heart of the Lake District. The poet, artist, and printmaker William Blake on the other hand was not...

My Poem

Advantages: Just Ad Lib
Disadvantages: Probably loads

...Just decided to write something down for the heck of it. Never been too much of a poet, as you can probably tell from my other reviews, but I thought Id give it a go. Feel free to use it as you want, or to change it, or whatever, its just a bit of fun. Enjoy and have fun! A Poem for a Friend, any friend, no one in particular! Here we are, my dear friend, My Shoulder, my heart, your tears to mend, Here we are, a warm embrace Joined together, face to face The times apart, the times together are like the change of the weather but with you side by side I know my emotions I cant hide for you are to me all a friend can ever be. Hotel Poem, quirky and friendly

Advantages: friendly, clean and unusual
Disadvantages: Small so in high season book in advance

...Hotel Poem is an excellent small hotel in the mid-range of prices and with a quirky, family feel to it. The name of the hotel comes rom the fact that the 16 rooms are named after famous Turkish poems (which are displayed, translated into English). Together with the friendly staff the hotel seemed to really care about the people who stayed in it and wanted them to have a good time. The location is ideal awith around five minutes walking time to the Blue Mosque and Hagia Sophia. The hotel is at the foot of Terbiyik Solak Street (No. 12), just off Akbiyik Caddesi a main road in the ancient Sultanahmet area. The hotel offer airport pickups. The rooms varied in size a little although they were all quite small. One of the rooms we stayed in (we moved because we wanted two beds not because there was anything wrong with the first room!) was...

LOVE POEM

Advantages: Just a poem
Disadvantages: You may not like it.

...I got Ciao to put this category because there are loads of wonderful writers out there, and not enough poetry categories. Hope to see loads of poems soon.. Were I to chose a place to be A place that really suited me I'd chose to walk the path you walk To talk the words we always talk To hold your hand, to feel your smile to kiss you at the kissing stile. Yes, why should anything improve, When what we feel is human love. Your eyes, transparent to my own, Cloak nothing, you are not alone, Your arms are strong, your lips so kind, And if I stay you will not mind That even though the days go by We never have to question why. Just be there in this place and time, That merits such a simple rhyme, Close as two people can achieve, I know that I shall never leave, And in each thing I chose to do, Will always stay here...

Childhood Memories - A Poem

Advantages: about me
Disadvantages: about me

...Here is another poem from me, it is only the third one that I have wrote, and i found that writing poetry is very therapeutic, so please be nice, as before constructive criticism is welcomed! Barbie dolls and muppet babies were a pleasure of mine When I was a little girl I had to be in bed by nine. McDonalds and twixs were my favourite treat I had a friend called Samantha she lived up the street. Going to the park on sunday when the sun was out When my mum said it was time to go i would scream and shout Wasn't it great when you were little and father christmas was real it was then you did not realise it was rambling lying spiel When I was eleven I started secondary school, you then think you are hip and grown up and very, very cool. College some came when I was sixteen, I was bullied...

You & Me friendship poem

Advantages: You decide but I think its nice and snappy and kinda sweet
Disadvantages: A bit short maybe(?) you judge

...Hi guys, Okay this is the first time that I will have posted a poem here on Ciao. I've written alot of poems, um, 'in my time' (though im not THAT old, honest lol well mid 20s), since I was about 14/15 and I noticed a week or so back when I was bored, that there are places here on Ciao for sharing such things, so, as I like to hear what people think of my writing, I figured I might as well post something here. I was looking for a more general poetry category, as alot of my poems aren't really about the sub categories that the poems seem to be split into here but maybe ill find something more suitable, anyway just by chance I have written this one very recently (earlier this week), thats about friendship. I didn't have anyone particular in mind, to be honest I just felt I wanted to write something and the lines just came to mind so...
