Heaven in Majorca

Advantages: Quiet location, lovely hotel, brilliant food, private beach.
Disadvantages: Quite expensive and could be a bit quiet.

...parents and younger brother were going as well! With the remainder of my student loan already exhausted by a weekend break with my University friends it seemed like the best proposal I was going to get this summer. My parents chose the sunny island of Majorca for our destination and the hotel Riu Palace Bonanza Playa. The island of Majorca is the largest of the three Balearic Islands and is located in the Mediterranean Sea off the south east coast of mainland Spain. The primary language spoken in Majorca is Spanish although many of the inhabitants speak English and German also to accommodate the large tourist influxes from both of these countries. The capital of the island is the cosmopolitan and fairly large city of Palma which also houses the islands airport, flight times are roughly 2-3 hours from the UK. The currency used...

Majorca the Magnificent

Advantages: Short flight, English widely spoken, beautiful beaches, great nightlife, I could go on forever
Disadvantages: You have to come home

...I have been to Majorca twice in the last three years. On the first occasion, I went with my husband and our two children who were 4 and 2 at the time. We chose Majorca because of the relatively short flight time of two hours. We stayed in Alcudia at the Marte Hotel which is in an all inclusive complex which also includes the hotels Jupiter and Saturno. We went in the second and third weeks of May. The first week was very unsettled, rainy and windy, but the second week was beautiful and the temperature got warmer by the day. The resort of Alcudia is very busy but geared more for families rather than singles. The beach is sandy and very clean. We hired a car locally for a week and I think this was probably one of the best decisions we made. Car hire is very cheap. We paid about the same amount for a whole week's car hire as...

Lagotel hotel, Playa de Muro-Alcudia- Majorca

Advantages: Good 3* family hotel
Disadvantages: Bit of a walk into Alcudia

...Lagotel Hotel- Alcudia, Majorca Flight 2 hours from Cardiff to Palma, with first choice passed by quickly thank-goodness not a flyer! Transfer This took approx 50 minutes. Resort On arrival check-in was efficient and staff polite but a little stern looking. The hotel is outside Alcudia in Playa De Muro but the buses are regular and cheap to the strip. The hotel as a courtesy bus to the beach, which is lovely, shallow and white sand and ample sun beds and umbrellas. Hotel On arrival check-in was efficient and staff polite but a little stern looking. Lobby was quite spacious with ample seating and also Internet facilities, with Reps desks at the end. Off the lobby was a large bar with satellite TV and games machines for the children to waste their money on. This is also where they held the entertainment in the evening...

Magaluf, Majorca a great fun holiday

Advantages: Lots to do, BCMs, Pirates
Disadvantages: Food can be expensive

...This holiday was my first without my parents in July 2006. I was with my boyfriend and we were staying in the Majorca Beach Hotel in Magaluf. 1.The Hotel - Majorca Beach Hotel Plain from outside, but rooms were of a good standard. We were self-catering, so didn't experience the food but we were told my other holiday makers it was good. The hotel was in a good location, near enough to the strip that you could stumble home, but far enough away so that you could get some sleep! Right next to the beach too! There were two pools, an adults and kids pool. Very cold and lovely in the sun but boring and square and quite deep. The hotel 'apparently' made sure no one reserved sun loungers near the pool, but every morning nearly all the sun loungers were taken, so best bet was to get up early and stick a towel on a couple. The hotel had...

Best place in Majorca

Advantages: Great beaches, assortment of restaurants
Disadvantages: None

...more expensive than the rest of Majorca. Accomodation in the port area is usually very good with plenty choice of food, there are many and varied types of restaurants along the port front all serving very nice food. A few Chinese restaurants and the usual burger bar for fast food. There are about 6 british type bars which are good and friendly. The beach is the best beach I've ever seen. It spreads for apout 6 miles so there's plenty of room and there are a few bars spread along the beach....

Ca's Puers, Soller, Majorca

Advantages: Luxurious hotel and good family beach
Disadvantages: Perphaps a bit too posh for a young family, no pool

...This is really a review of a stay at a specific hotel called Ca's Puers in Soller, Majorca. http://www.caspuers.com/ We booked the hotel direct (they speak good English) and bought flights / car hire separately. Ca's Puers is in Soller in the North of the island. There are two bits to Soller, Port de Soller which (as you've guessed) is on the coast and Soller itself which is about ten minutes drive or ten minutes in the tourist train from the beach. Once you're on the coast , the bay is enclosed from the rest of the Med and is therefore very calm, making it perfect for young children. We stayed for eleven nights in September 2000 paying Ptsa 250,000 (about £100) a night for the room which was certainly big enough for the two of us and our daughter, plus £111 each return air fare (no discount for the nipper) plus car hire...

Belle View Appartments in Alcudia, Majorca

Advantages: Nice views and hot sun
Disadvantages: Smelly and noisy

...you have to pay for). The selection of food was very good, ranging from cold fresh salad to carved chicken, fish, pasta, a good selection of vegetables and sweet selection. The dining area was fully air conditioned, which was great in the hot evenings. Overall We had a good time while we were away. We went prepared with insect repellent, plenty of money and a good thick book. Like all the reviews here, these are our views but I have tried to be honest and give good and bad points. Majorca is a nice place and the best way to appreciate it is to visit it. If you go – have a nice time!...

Value for Money Holiday

Advantages: Cheap, large room, nice pool area and bar facilities, great location. Fantastic for children
Disadvantages: Quite expensive in the bar. May be too children orientated for couples in school holiday times

...Me and my girlfriend were looking for a cheap holiday when we found a Thomas Cook package holiday to Puerta Pollensa staying at the Villa Concha hotel apartments. We stayed there from 9th May to 16th May 2009 at a cost of about £230 each including flights and return transfer from the airport. A workmate had recommended Puerta Pollensa to me as it is a personal favourite of hers and I had a great week there and did not want to return! Villa Concha is a 3 star rated hotel situated in the north east of Majorca, 2 minutes from the beach and shops. Hotel Bar I will start off with one of the most important places for me. The hotel bar! The hotel has a bar restaurant next to the pool area which serves your average bar drinks such as wines, lagers and ciders with the addition of some quite exotic cocktails. It also serves various meals...

Majorca

Advantages: Sun
Disadvantages: None

...I enjoyed Majorca so much the first time around that I went back the following year! It is a beautiful and the largest of the islands and I would always recommend this for anybody's first holiday abroad. Palma is a beautiful place and the trip to the resorts is very beautiful and relaxing. Palma is also the main marina and always have lots of expensive yachts on view and where you would board your cruise should you be taking a 2 centre holiday. I have always stayed in Calis de Mallorca, a really nice place with fantastic scenery and nightlife. There is something to do here for everyone and there is always a supply of english food should you require it. (BUrgerking). Excursions are always laid on and I recommend a ride on the 'banana boats' for a great laugh....

Review of General: Balearic Islands

Diamond review  Food for the Soul.

Advantages: Beach, sea, food, relaxation, more food
Disadvantages: A busy road - be careful out there.

...experience life the Majorcan way. First of all, the beaches. One of the few concessions made to mass-tourism is the construction of approximately two miles of beaches that can only be described as first-class. These stretch from just south of the marina to way past Tamarells snack bar situated on the outer fringes of the town and they go north as far as the army training centre just at the foot of the steep climb up to Cap De Formentor (don't worry, the army base is not as bad as it sounds!). As they built the beaches (around 1986-onwards), they used some of the inevitable detritus to build convenient breakwaters several metres away from the shore. The Port de Pollenca bay is sheltered by a long and natural out-crop jutting from the mainland meaning the sea is never rough, big waves are virtually non-existent and there are no strong currents...
