...What is Ponderosa? Ponderosa started off as Pondeosa Rare Breeds Farm back in 1992. It included animals such as Llamas and Emu's. Over a quick period of time the farm became a favourite with the locals, and it was realised that when caring for animals, it assisted greatly with personal development. Some visitors had very limited communication skills, not able to understand public transport, low self esteem and very little knowledge of working on a farm showed an increase in confidence, social skills and where were now becoming very adept workers after working with the animals over a short period of time. Some of these people moved on from Ponderosa to gain skills elsewhere, and others are now full time workers at Ponderosa, fulfilling all the daily tasks of a farm such as animal care, working in the tourist shops, and even...

...Ponderosa is extremely good value for money, the it is all buffet style but you can if you wish order from the menu if you wish, but, to be honey there is no need to unless you are wanting a steak, there is everything you can think of in the buffet. You can go for breakfast, dinner or tea. Breakfast is around $4.99, and all you have to pay for is the drinks on top of this, the children go free under 12 The choices are good : - Breakfast ? you can have cereal (lots of different ones), sausages (these are like hot dog style), bacon (this is a bit crispy), yoghurts, cakes ? Madeira cake mainly - the cakes were all fresh and lovely and soft. You also got a rack of toast and jam on your arrival to your table, and when leaving you got a plate full of mints. Dinner was $5.99 to $6.99 depending on what time and what you wanted...

...As there was a Ponderosa Steakhouse restaurant just over the road from our hotel on International Drive, Orlando, we usually found overselves heading in that direction in the morning for our usual breakfast fix, before the usually mad day ahead of us. There are about five of these restaurants in the Disney vicinity, two on International Drive and three in nearby Kissimmee. You can come out of there full to the brim for as little as $3.99 and with the high exchange rate (when we went it was about $1.90 to the pound) that works out at approximately just over £2.00. They do a breakfast buffet, and a lunch and dinner buffet for $8.99 for a steak buffet. Eat it all up!

Advantages: Cheap, under 5's eat free and lots to choose from

...I went to Florida just over a year ago now with work and on one of our free evenings a group of us chose to go to Ponderosa for an evening meal on the recommendation from one of the group who had been before. I honestly couldn't tell you which one on International Drive it was as there is two but, as they all operate on the scale and order process it will still give you an idea what to expect when you eat at one of them. The chain: Ponderosa has five restaurants in Orlando. Two are on International Drive, two in Kissimee and one at Lake Beuna Vista. They are all named Ponderosa Steakhouses. They operate a meal policy where by diners can order a meal to be served to them and then still eat from the 'all you can eat' buffet. ...We saw the adverts for the Ponderosa and thought the prices were too low for it to be any good...but a friedn said the food was good so we gave it a try...and are we glad we did! We went for lunch...you pay for your choice of meal as you go in. There are a couple of levels and the refillable drinks are charged seperately- we went for the entry level basic buffet. We were greeted by our server who showed us to our table ( a large Florida diner style room with banquette style seating arrangement in low backed booths) brought our drinks and cutlery and showed us the range of food available. We were stunned by the variety. Great place to eat at the end of a busy Day

...Ponderosa restaurants great for those families visiting Orlando on a budget. They offer a good choice of entrees, which you order as you enter, all of which are a good price and displayed by the till area for you to choose from. A typical entree would be steak tips and onions and a jacket potato, or maybe a steak with fries. These are then paid for along with your required drinks, and then you are seated and introduced to your server. This system is very different to what we in the UK are used to, but it works well when in Florida. By purchasing the entree, this also entitles you to choose from the buffet. You can have as much as you like, and your server will encourage you to eat more by constantly replacing the pile of plates for you to use! ...On our recent trip to Orlando with our two young children, we decided to eat at the Ponderosa (of which there are many in the area) on Highway 192. On previous trips, we had eaten breakfast there (where my new husband kept telling me that he had never seen someone having a 7 course breakfast before and didn't realise that he had married a bigger eater than him) but had never visited for dinner. The attraction of the Ponderosa for us was the fact that children 5 and under eat free, and for about $9 up you could have an all you can eat dinner buffet. On arriving at the restaurant, the queues was quite long, and after about 25 minutes we eventually got near to the front. The woman at the checkout was sitting patiently waiting for people to collect their drinks (and as most parties contained 4 or more people who were all in the queue...

...Our first trip found us paying through the nose for flight, accommodation and car hire. Don't make the same mistake on your first trip! Of course we felt we might get stranded, mugged or even shot but trust me..do it this way and you will be ok. Muggers are more likely to frequent the touristy areas i.e. International Drive area. Get yourself a cheap flight through Teletext or on the Net, most come with car hire already included! Maps are easy to come by an dyou will arrive in Florida during daylight hours so no worrys about dodgy people! Drive straight to Highway 192 or another on the edge highway where you wil find more hotels and motels than you can count and all have vacancies!!!
