THe most haunted inn in Dorset - allegedly
Advantages: Great Food, Great Beer, Haunted, close to the Quay and the Old town
Disadvantages: A bit scruffy, needs some renovation
...This pub may well be known to those who follow the ghost hunting programs on cable TV. We spent a night there recently to see if we could detect any ghostly activity. This review is intended to give an insight to the place and its long term non-paying guests.
Value for money
--------------------------
At £20 per person per night this is one of the cheaper places to stay in an area that commonly reflects pricing that you would normally expect to find in London. Poole is not a cheap place to stay or live in.
Quality Of Rooms
---------------------------
They've seen better days, the heating radiators were jammed fully on, they were red hot and we had to have the window wide open all night. the carpet in room 3, the haunted room, was threadbare and the floorboards creaked alarmingly.
Standard of Service...

Poole, it's a beautiful place
Advantages: Beautiful, lots to see and do
Disadvantages: ????
...The Local Authority's tag line is "Poole, it's a beautiful place". And it really is!
Poole has been my home town for the past 20 or so years and it never fails to make me happy living here :-)
There is so much to say about Poole that several books have been written about the area. With that in mind, I will tell you a couple of things about Poole Quay, the heart of the town.
Poole Quay is a fantastic place, lively and bustling in both the summer and winter months with great restaurants, museums and beautiful scenery. Boat trips run to surrounding areas during the summer months and I would particularly reccommend taking a trip to Brownsea Island, where the Scout movement began.
Poole Pottery on the quay sells its famous pottery, although the pottery is no longer made on site. Just down the road is the Purbeck Pottery shop...

Dorset County Hospital
Advantages: Friendly, Efficient, Very Clean
Disadvantages: None, apart from waiting time
...I am at present resting at home after an operation on my left shoulder, made necessary after a clumsy fall that compressed the shoulder joint.
After a regimen of physiotherapy and steroids it was deemed that an operation called a subacromial decompression was arranged and took place at the orthopaedic unit of the Dorset County Hospital in Dorchester, Dorset.
I was given a choice of three hospitals, in line with the government's policy of offering a choice and I feel that I made the correct decision.
The choices on the list were The Royal Bournemouth and Christchurch Hospital, Poole General Hospital and the Dorset county.
Bournemouth was too far away, Poole is not a very nice hospital so I was left with Dorchester .
First Impressions
Once the appointment for surgery was made I was asked to attend a Anaesthesia Pre...

Poole in all its Glory
Advantages: Lovely area plenty to see
Disadvantages: Beaches can get busy
...Poole:
Well Poole is the slightly quieter neighbour of Bournemouth. It has the most beautiful beaches Sandbanks a peninsular which stretches out to form the harbour entrance has been said to be one of the best beaches in the country with its white sands it has been awarded the blue flag for management and cleanliness for the last 20 years, It does get busy in the summer so plan well.
The harbour itself is said to be the Largest natural Harbour in Europe. The Harbour holds 5 main islands the largest Brownsea Island, home of red squirrels and the Birthplace of the first ever scout camp founded by Baden Powell way back in 1907. Regular boats run between Poole Quay and Brownsea allowing visitors to get up close and personal with the island. The smaller islands are long Island, Green Island, Round Island and Furzey Island...

Dinosaurland in Dorset
Advantages: Preserving a Phenomena. Tourism. International Recognition
Disadvantages: None
...What a Century!
*******************
In 1821 Mary Anning discovered the first complete ichthyosaurus while wading and searching for fossils under the dangerous, crumbling cliffs in her home town of Lyme Regis in West Dorset, on the coast of South West England. What would this proud, uneducated working class woman think of the latest news?
In 1834, the six men now known as The Tolpuddle Martyrs, the founders of the Trade Union movement, were found guilty of Mutiny in the County Court of Dorchester, the County town of Dorset, and sentenced to seven years transportation to Australia. What would these Dorset farm labourers who altered the social structure in England, think of the latest news?
In 1840 Thomas Hardy the Dorset author was born, yet to write his world famous classical literature to include ‘Far From the Madding...

Coolest Pool
Advantages: Great graphics and gameplay, Internet rooms for online gaming
Disadvantages: None its great fun
...II wouldn't classify myself as a game freak, but I do occasionally like to play online games. One of which is Cool Pool.
This game is published by Sierra and can without doubt boast to be the best Pool game. There are many game variations available through the menu system and most are playable online too. Installation is very easy once the file is downloaded ( see later ).
On initial boot up this game has a rather catchy tile page. The large and colourful Sierra logo is quickly followed by a little furry dude saying Now this is fun. And indeed it is. The next screen shows a pool break just before it switches to the main menu options.
From the menu system you can choose the type of game you play, the options being
Under the menu heading STANDARD GAMES
1. Standard Billiards
In this game you simply play billiards as per...

Breakfast from Dorset
Advantages: It is exactly as it says on the box.
Disadvantages: Quite expensive.
...I as really can't stand milk breakfast can be a bit of an issue with me. Just the thought of cereal going soggy in a bowl full of milk just churns my stomach. Therefore I just usually give breakfast a miss. That is until I discovered Dorset Cereals Really Nutty Muesli.
Whilst cat sitting for the parents the other week, I discovered a box of the said muesli in mum's kitchen cupboard. It really caught my eye because the packaging is so different. The cereal comes in a terracotta coloured cardboard box with a design cut out on the front that resembles an ear of corn that is backed with clear plastic. On the front it states 750g of unadulterated breakfast pleasure. Through the plastic windows you can see the museli. It looked so good (an I will come on to why in a mo), that I decided just to try a handful. Oh, what heaven, its...

THE Great Dorset Steam Fair
Advantages: Plenty to see and do
Disadvantages: Does require a lot of walking
...The Annual Great Dorset Steam Fair, has been running since 1968 at Tarrant Hinton in Dorset, and for five days each year is the premier tourist attraction in the county.
The Fair has grown to be one of Europe's biggest outdoor shows, covering as it does 600 acres of farmer's fields in Dorset. It is difficult to convey just how big the fair has grown to, but the first glimpse of the site always astounds me as to how much land is taken up. There is a preconception that the fair is purely for those interested in steam power, but it is much more than that. The most common exhibits are the steam traction engines, tractors and farm engines, many of which undertake the purpose they were built for in the showground. There are also scores of musical attractions in the form of fairgorund organs run from steam.
Aside from these core activities...

Dorset,A Greatly Underated County
Advantages: Unspoilt. Traditional. A Microcosm of England. Compact
Disadvantages: Very few.
...Dorset is I think one of the greatly under-rated counties of England. A lot of people going to the South West for their holidays target Devon and Cornwall - and both are delightful-but at best hurry through Dorset. Yet this county has a great deal to offer the visitor ranging from typically English, rustic, villages, to the sophistication of Bournemouth, the elegance of Poole, the delights of Georgian Weymouth, the beauty of the coastline and the joys of small towns such as Bridport, Dorchester and Lyme Regis. It is not only very compact but in many ways an almost perfect microcosm of England.
Literary buffs will find Dorset is no backwater for this is Hardy country and it was the home for part of his life of T.E.Lawrence.Dorset also has its place in agrarian history as the Tolpuddle Martyrs serve to remind us.

Easily The Best Pool Game On The Market
Advantages: Great Graphics
Disadvantages: No tournament mode.
...Ah, Methinks its time the Coolster did another one of his reviews. And the subject? Only the coolest Cue ball game around,. Cool Pool. 'Cool Pool?' I hear you say. 'Never Heard of it!' It's a shame really because it's a darn fine pool Game. In fact it's so easy and fun to play you'll be potting 'em left right and centre in minutes, pulling off some spectacular long shots. Trouble is, it's so easy to play your opponent will be as well. The fun games are all brilliant, and the cool tables will take your breath away. 'How on Earth can I play pool on that table you'll ask? And getting a game online is a breeze. There's no web sites to log onto, the game automatically logs you into your ISP and launches a list of rooms you can join in to play. It's just like going through the menu of any game. It must be said though that it's not...
