Porsche 944 Review

Advantages: Fun to drive-decent gas mileage
Disadvantages: expensive to maintain

...I have had two 944s over the past few years. This little review is to forewarn any prospective 944 buyers as to what they might be getting into. I loved these cars. They are fun to drive and somewhat entertaining to work on. If you don't know anything about auto repair or don't want to learn you better have a very good paying job or a sugar daddy. These cars are not cheap to maintain. If you plan on letting a Porsche Shop take care of your maintenance you better just buy a new car. Labor rates on these cars are extremely high and Porsche OEM parts are out of sight. If you are thinking of buying a 944 you definitely want some documented maintenance history on the car. These models have rubber timing belts and have Zero valve clearance. This means if you break a timing belt the pistons crash into the valves virtually destroying...

Porsche 944 - The cheapest car on the road!

Porsche 924 Lux 1981

Advantages: Looks, Marque, availability of parts.
Disadvantages: Vandals Jealousy!

...The cheapest way to become a Porsche owner. These cars are described as the best designed Porsches as they have perfect 50/50 weight distribution due to the engine, gearbox and diff layout. They are powered by a 2 litre engine which is based on an Audi 100 powerhouse and drives the rear wheels. There are many myths surrounding these cars - such as they arent real porkers and they are glorified Volkswagens - Not true. VW & Audi approached Porsche to design them a sports car - porsche duely did so and VW / Audi decided they couldnt afford to build it and sold the manufacturing rights back to Porsche who developed it into the 924. The car has many VW/Audi bits on it but this is no bad thing - an example being that porsche electric window switch is around £90 and a VW part is around £15. These costs make quite a bit of difference...

Porsche Performance?

Advantages: Good Looking, Robust
Disadvantages: Scratch Easily, Heavy

...of the feet fell off at the back. One went bouncing off under a desk never to be seen again and the other is now super-glued to the bottom in the middle. I shudder to think of poor Porsche drivers speeding along the motorway suddenly finding their back wheels have sprung off... and I doubt super-glue would be of use! The drive has maintained a minimalist look. A tiny orange LED appears when the drive is on, and flickers to show activity. Aside from that there is no indication of the drive's status. At various points around the housing, the "Lacie" logo and "Design by F.A. Porsche" are engraved into the aluminium giving the unit a sort of personalised/prestigious feel. Let's not get carried away here though, it's still a hard disk no matter who designed it and does the same job as your regular unit! Moving away from appearances, as we all know...

Advantages: Speed, quality, graphics, sound.
Disadvantages: Only Porsche

...Now this is one hell of a game!!! Great right from the beginning. I've only played the test drive modes, and so far its COOL. Realistic graphics. Excellent sound. With a subwoofer you can really hear the engine. The car detail is also excellent. I only I have basic graphics card, but I'm sure all the newer cards will make the picture perfect! Mine looks great, even just at 800 x 600. Super game. You can become a Prosche test driver and do courses and missions. I love it when they give you a Porsche Boxster and tell you to drive it as fast as you can down this road - with other cars and police on it. Really gets you going. Great game, just wish I had a faster computer....

My Porsche Boxster

Advantages: Numerous
Disadvantages: Some noise; 1 month after purchase developed white growth on hood interior (mold?); servicing is steep (well, what do you expect of a Porsche?)

...have yet to be beaten at the lights (I laugh when they try!) *no one else was stupid enough to part with £40000 that they didn't have (this was September 1998 - extras included leather sport seats, wind deflector, CD autochanger, Porsche coloured crests on wheels) Tracker or not? My insurance company did not specify that I obtain a tracker, AFN said it would not be necessary and I can see why. When I broke my ankle earlier this year and was unable to drive my Boxster not only sent itself to sleep but when those nice breakdown people (swearing their heads off)managed to get it started it took a very long time to do so. In order to get the ignition going, the battery had to be charged. The battery is under the bonnet which is accessed by an electrically operated lever which refused to work as the car had shut down. At last, a Porsche for the kitchen

So You Wanna Drive A Porsche hey.

...I have to say i have loved all the Need for Speed games since the original one was released all them years ago, back then i had a playstation, and i used to link up with my friend to play need for speed, it was one of the best games i had played. until now. This game is totally superb, from the first menu, up until the end cradits, you will be hooked, driving through country roads, or taking to the city in a porsche speeding through shorcuts, damaging your car with flip after flip, or just taking ot nice and steady (yes cos that happens dont it LOL). This game is for everyone who likes to drive, you have the longetivity, of starting in the 60's and going through the decades as a Driver, from the early porsche's all the way to the porsche 2000, you will be able to collect them as you go along, seeing if you can win a Porsche Spider...

...We didn't buy our Porsche from a dealership, the model we bought simply doesn't seem that popular with them, focus seems to be on the 911 and Boxster models. But I've found Porsche dealerships to be amongst the most helpfull and downright enjoyable companies to deal with. In the time we've owned our car I've naturally needed a few parts which weren't available elsewhere, as you'd expect any part which comes from a dealership had a worrying price tag on it - a simple fuel pump relay switch for the fuse box was almost £30, when looking at it you'd think £10 would be overpriced! On entering our local dealership you are greeted with all the glitz and glamour you would expect from a top class sports car manufacturer, every little item has the Porsche logo on it from the glass in the windows to the carpet and even the pen you use to sign...
