Portrait of Paphos
Advantages: Charming combination of the old and the new give this resort something for everyone.
Disadvantages: Heat oppressive at height of summer. Some areas rather loud and built up
...had now cooled down as the previous week had been even hotter!
~*~ A BRIEF HISTORY OF PAPHOS ~*~
The history of Cyprus goes back at least 10,000 years and there are a huge number of ancient monuments and sites throughout the island. Alexander the Great and St Paul both played their parts in shaping the Cyprus of today. However, the best known figure from the past is Aphrodite, the Greek goddess of love and beauty, who made her home in Paphos itself, after allegedly emerging from the seas nearby. Alexander the Great and his successors, the Ptolemies, also made their home in Paphos, making it the capital of Cyprus due its very busy and thriving port area. It remained the capital for seven further centuries, even when the Romans took over. The Roman Governor of the island Sergius Paulus was converted to Christianity by St Paul...

Perfect Paphos
Advantages: Friendly people, cheap food, great atmosphere, hot!
Disadvantages: perhaps too touristy, and will become more so in time
....
On Paphos Harbour there are loads of cafes and restaurants, and seems to be a very child-friendly part of Paphos. There are, of course, all the souvenir shops dotted about, and there are also a number of boat trips to choose from. One good thing about this area is that there is a large car park situated right next to the port where parking is free.
The next day was Friday, and we decided to bring out our true sun-worshipping selves and head down to Coral Bay Beach. Again, this was a drive away, so we drove through Paphos to get to it; about 20 minutes from our apartment. Parking here is free also, and only a tiny walk from the beach. The beach itself isn?t huge, but there was enough space for everyone there. I?m not sure what it would be like in mid-Summer though. We paid for the use of two sun-loungers and umbrella, which cost £C3...

Paphos for all season Holidays.
Advantages: It is very friendly, drive on the Left hand side, and mostly speak English
Disadvantages: You can't lay on the beaches in the winter, and the evenings are cold.
...I have just returned home after a couple of weeks in Paphos.
This is my seventh visit to Paphos over 3 years. This time it was very different. Being my first visit since Cyprus changed over to Euros in Jan 2008, I was amazed to notice the changes that had already been made.
The Harbour had changed almost beyond recognition. For those of you who have already visited this area, you are in for a shock of delight.
The harbour sea front has now gone pedestrian. Gone the noisy buses, the taxis parked all along the sea front. the shabby little shops have now been replaced with smart boutiques and gift shops.
Restaurants are modern clean and inviting. It was almost finished when I returned and a few more weeks will see the completion.
The traffic is now diverted through the shop, by Debenhams and the Supermarket, the main...

Paphos in February? Never again!
Advantages: some decent weather
Disadvantages: chips with everything!
...Well, we have just spent a week in Paphos and I have to say that unfortunately, in the middle of February there really isn't a lot to recommend it!
Firstly, let me talk about the weather! Well the first four days of our holiday we spent freezing and stuck away in our hotel room in an attempt to get warm! I am sure we probably had about as much rain and the temperatures were as low as it was at home! Brrr! The later part of the week has been much warmer, which makes me see why so many people might choose Paphos as a winter destination, but the fact that you cannot rely on the weather here, really makes it feel as hit and miss as a weekend in Cornwall in August!
Another problem seems to be that at this time of year there is really not that much to do. There is a lovely but small bird park which is well worth a visit for half a day but...

Paphos and Tala
Advantages: The Cypriot people, warm and sunny, many things to do and see
Disadvantages: None
...We have visited Paphos a number of times and each time, we enjoy it more.
The country itself is easy quite beatiful, it is easy tour , it has excellent roads, and the Cypriot people are warm and friendly.
As a bonus for us unilingual folk, 90% or more Cypriots speak excellent English but is also fun to use your Greek phrase book !!!
Spring or the Autumn are our favourite times as the temperatures are moderated but even in the Summer months, it is a dry heat and there are the occasional cooling sea breezes.
We stay in a self catering apartment which is in the village of Tala with wonderful 180 degree views down to the Mediterranean and the Paphos coast.
There is nothing nicer than to get up in the morning, sit on the verandah and look-out at the view while you sip fresh orange juice or freshly brewed coffee.
Tala is...

Poor Hotel in Coral Bay Paphos
Advantages: Good Range of Food, in a Nice Location
Disadvantages: Not clean, staff not helpful
...We visited the Ascos Coral Beach Hotel last August and I'm afraid I really don't have many good things to say about it!
>>>>Overview<<<<
This is a 4 star hotel located in Coral Bay 11km Paphos. It is an adult only hotel and does not take bookings for anyone under the age of 16. It has 2 swimming pools one indoor and one outdoor, a gym, a Jacuzzi and a souvenir shop.
The hotel offer a half board option or an all inclusive option. We booked last minute on an all inclusive basis, this cost us just under £1000 which we thought was really good value.
>>>> LOCATION <<<<
The hotel is situated in Coral Bay which is about a 10 min drive from Paphos. The hotel is quite a bit out of the way so to get around it is better to hire a car.
It's a very quiet town containing only a few hotels, villas, a crazy golf course and one street...

Port El Kantaoui
Advantages: Beautiful Beaches
Disadvantages: Mainly For Couples, Hassle From Local Shopkeekers
...Port El Kantaoui is a purpose built Holiday Resort on the Northern Coast of Tunisia in North Africa. It is situated just a few kilometres North of Sousse, Tunisia's second largest City after the Capital Tunis.
It was built in 1979 with a modern 300 Yacht capacity Marina as its focal point. In recent years this Marina has become a popular mooring location for the rich and famous undertaking their Mediterranean Cruises and the Marina here is said to rival those long established Marinas of Nice and Marbella on the Southern Coast of Europe. It is now also Tunisia's most popular Holiday Resort.
I stayed in Port El Kantaoui between the 2nd and 9th July 2006 and found the experience to be a rather interesting one. Since it was my first visit to Tunisia I was a little unsure of what to expect and as my Holiday approached I began to hear...

Agapinor Hotel - Paphos
Advantages: Clean, air -conditioned rooms
Disadvantages: Location and poor choice of evening meals
...My boyfriend and i stayed at the Agapinor for 11 nights in June 2006.
We booked through Go-Travel having only a small hoilday fund! We knew we wanted to go to Paphos but didn't mind were we stayed. For our budget we only had a choice of this hotel and a self catering hotel. We chose the Agapinor as the description said it was close to the shops and it was half board. the hotel and flights cost £450 each.
What i didn't realise was that there are two parts to Paphos, the old town (which is where the Agopinor is situated) and the tourist part by the harbour, the distance between the two is about 3km. This became a problem as all the bars, clubs and restaurants are near the harbour. In the daytime there is a bus service which runs about every 10 mins and costs about 40p, this stops early evening so the only way to get to the harbour is...
