...I always wanted a dictaphone as a child. Largely, I admit, for slightly dubious reasons (i.e. I wanted to plant it in my big sister's bedroom and find out if she was talking about me.) Many years on, as a student, I finally received one as a birthday gift so that I could record important lectures. This certainly did come in handy during those classes that, however hard I tried to stay alert, had me head down and drooling on the desk within minutes. The Sony TCM-200DV Cassette-Corder (or 'dictaphone' to you and me) is a fairly basic model compared to some products on the market - but it does what it says on the tin and it does it to a perfectly acceptable standard. The machine is silver (with a charcoal grey back panel and battery compartment) and weighs in at 171g - it's roughly the same size as a cassette-playing personal stereo...

...very surprised to hear the sound coming out of both ears!!!! People thinking that it could therefore be used as a Walkman should be wary; the sound quality is not as good and I only listen to spoken word on it. The VOR slide switch is also on the top, featuring OFF/LOW/HIGH options. The built-in speaker is an obvious feature, situated at the front. It has a 'Clear Voice' noise reduction. It's fine for spoken word but only has 0.2 Watt as power. If you listen to things like Radio Plays or Audio books, this is fine if you're in a quiet room and the player is relatively near. The cassette recorder is mechanical and there's no button to press to open the tape compartment. This suites me and isn't a problem. The buttons have a slight plasticy feel to them but the machine is robust enough, surviving frequent trips to work in rucksack...

...The Sony WM-EX 605 is purely a personal cassette player. I bought one last week for my six year old daughter, as she likes to listen to books on tape. The unit features are: Feather touch controls, auto reverse, remote control, and up to 35 hour battery life. Feather touch controls basically just a gentle touch of the button will activate that function. Auto reverse well this turns the tape over without removing the tape from the unit but this is an intelligent auto reverse it can be programmed to play both sides of the tape once or continuous play (where the tape will continue to play until the player is stopped). Remote control this is fitted on the headphone cable and controls the volume, oh it also controls all the other functions as well Play, Fast Forward, Rewind, Stop and Auto reverse! Battery life well it?s supposed to last...

Advantages: Clear screen, lots of features, easy to use and a large range of games and movies.
Disadvantages: Can't be used with strong light and quite easy to damage/scratch

MP3's through a cassette player in your car

Advantages: Cheap and it easy to use

...After my girl friend got the back of her car smashed in to by some stupid guy she had to change cars. Luckily she got a car for free from a friend of her family, unluckily this car is about 15 years old lol. We both have MP3 players and love to listen to music when we drive but this new car only had a cassette player so we were both a bit disappointed. On a trip to our local halfords i decided that i was sick of listening to old recordings of early 90's "music" and got her the Belkin MP3 cassette thingy in the hopes that we could finally listen to some good music. Advantages: Great portable media player. Ideal for Games & Movies
Disadvantages: Not so good as an MP3 player as a little bulky.

...This is an ideal portable console/MP3 Player and MP4 Player for all. Since having the PSP I no longer find myself bored whilst on the train to work. I generally use it for gaming and watching movies. The gameplay/graphics are awesome for such a small device. The added bonus of the PSP is that you can switch it off and when you switch it back on again it allows you to play where you left off even if this is half way through a football match. As for movie capability, this is straight forward. As long as you have a large enough memory card, you can load MP4 files and watch movies on the go with the PSP. I don't really use the PSP as an MP3 player as it's a little too bulky for the pocket. I don't think this is the main benefit of the PSP but the option's there.
