Extra memory for me - Samsung 160Gb External hard drive USB

Advantages: Small smart looking and light, easy to use
Disadvantages: none that I have found

But my Samsung is a portable hard-drive with a storage capacity of 160GB MY PORTABLE HARD DRIVE: This little Samsung hard drive is really compact, with a neat aluminium body and does not require external power supply. I bought my Samsung hard-drive online from Ebay not in an auction but a Buy it Now seller. It has 160 GB storage capacity and costs me under £40. It weighs around 150 gram and easily fits in my bag or a jacket pocket. It is just a sealed aluminium box with a mini USB port at one end ? nothing else at all. The actual item is 11.5cm x 1.0cm x 7.0cm (only 0.5" inch thick) which is amazing I think. All I did when it arrived was take it out of the box, plug the mini USB into the item then plug the 2...

Ipod Classic - 160GB

Advantages: Size, Workmanship, Functionality
Disadvantages: Zero support for some old peripherals, crashes car stereo , Bit heavy!

...and click 'get album artwork' - this did take a while... but worked! Whilst coverflow looks nice I don't think it adds extra functionality to the IPod... more a space draining quirk! It does look awesome though ;-) Sound playback is the usual high standard - but this is really down to you, the user - I have all my imported (off CD) music set to apple loss-less. Which will take up more space, but with 160 GIGS to play with... it is not a great deal more! It must be said - the headphones supplied are useless... get some Sennheiser CX300 - the added clarity is noticeable - and you do not need it as loud! The hat trick is that the ear buds stay in my ear when I am working out. Video playback; to test this I ripped Family Guy from dvd to IPod using the ImToo software package. Quality was good - but KILLS your battery! So not ideal...

...This was bought to replace my old freecom 40gb drive. Once when using it on a desktops front usb port, i knocked it with my knee and it snapped the connector. Due to this I thought I would go for a toughdrive and I have not been dissapointed. I use it weekly and keep it loose in my laptop bag with no real concern for its safety. No chance of the connector breaking here as its a sealed floppy rubbery affair! also there is a magnet on the clip so it wont become loose wherever you keep it. I have used it on several pc's, laptops and servers without any issue. I often use it for my work on a server that will only have one or two USB ports and neither are in a good postion so I have to leave the drive hanging from the USB port and still no issues. Never needed to use supplied software....

...My personal experience with the Xbox 360 hard drive has been fairly positive. The ability to store music, films, videos and of course games saves is one that no Xbox gamer should be without. 120 GB of memory is more than enough for the average gamer. The hard drive is well designed to blend with the console perfectly. It is small and easy to store. However the price is pretty heavy compared to the cheaper 20GB versions. A problem with the memory is the fact that the hard drive does not actually have 120GB, obviously it wouldn't be exactly due to the need for the running files but several GB are actually missing. Regular cleaning is advised as dust tends to collect on the hard drive but a sharp blow into the docking port is sufficient to clear this. All in all this product is an incredibly useful addition to any Xbox 360 gamers...

The only thing potential buyers need to think about when considering this device is how much space they need for their files. 160 GB is one of the smallest sizes I could find for external hard drives, but it is about the same size as my laptop's internal hard drive - in other words, it stores a lot of data! If, therefore, you are looking for something just to back up a few photos, or a couple of word documents, it would probably be a better idea to do so by CD or USB stick. But it's a definite for people who want to transfer and back up there many files easily, securely and promptly, without having the downside of dragging a huge bulky hard drive around when you want to take your files with you elsewhere....

Seagate Momentus 160Gb 2.5inch hard drive

Advantages: Huge capacity, reasonably fast, 5 year warranty
Disadvantages: Not the fastest

...My laptop, a Dell 5150 is a fine machine (see review elsewhere on Ciao) but the 80Gb hard drive whilst big for a laptop is starting to get a bit cramped now I have both Windows XP and Vista on it so I've started looking around for a second hard drive so I can put Vista on one and leave XP on the other and then swap drives as needed. Luckily, following a previous hard drive failure, I have a spare caddy that the laptop needs so swapping drives would be a quick task, assuming I keep the tiny screwdriver needed handy in my rucksack! Laptop hard drives are smaller than normal - 2.5inch as opposed to 3.5 inch and tend to be at a price premium compared to the 'normal' sized drives, especially the bigger ones. They also tend to be much slower as they run at 4200RPM instead of 5600 or even 7200RPM that desktop ones run at. The reason being...
