Reviews of portege 3110
Not a technical opinion
Review of Toshiba Portege 3110CT - PII 300 MHz - 10.4" TFT by
vala
Advantages: Size and weight
Disadvantages: Possibly the external bits
...This is an opinion for people who, like me, have read other opinions on computers and thought "huh?".
Why we wanted a laptop:-
We live in a one-bedroom flat so there is no room for a desk top plus work station. I wanted something I could type documents on and my husband wanted something on which he could produce presentations. The other essentials were CD Rom and internet access.
The one we chose:-
A Portege 3110 from eBay at a cost of £250. My bid was accepted on Wednesday and the laptop arrived very well packaged on Saturday. The Portege really is compact. When I took the packaging and accessories out of the carrying case, I thought the seller had forgotten to put in the laptop as it was hidden in a corner. It is smaller than an A4 sheet of paper and about 2 cms thick.
What we think of it:-
It has a few scuff marks...

Small but perfectly formed
Review of Toshiba Portege 3110CT - PII 300 MHz - 10.4" TFT by
harv
Advantages: Small, powerful sub-notebook with all the features you'll need.
Disadvantages: Can get hot when used for long periods
...I bought a Toshiba Portege 3110 about six months ago due to it winning the PC Magazine sub-Notebook award. One of the main reasons I bought was its size and weight - this is a tiny machine and weighs in at a little over 1Kg. It is ideal if you want a machine to use whilst commuting, since you won't need to visit the chiropractor after carrying it around for a week, unlike most laptops. However, if you want a desktop replacement, look elsewhere.
As well as it weighing very little, it has a decent sized TFT screen; is powerful enough for me to develop web applications on; and has an exceptional battery life for a small machine (3 hours). It can get a little warm after being on for a couple of hours, but in the winter that warms my legs quite nicely.
It comes with PII-300 processor, 4.5Gb hard-disk, internal 56K modem, 1 x PC Card slot...

Portege 4010
Review of Toshiba Portege 3110CT - PII 300 MHz - 10.4" TFT by
PhillWorboys
Advantages: Ultra light weight
Disadvantages: Does not come with floppy drive
...I purchase a lot of laptops for the company I work for and we tend to stick with Toshiba. Why? Because they offer excellent build quality and reliability not to mention the speed of repairs etc.
A director wanted a light laptop as he travels a lot. I recommended the Portege 4010 and tool delivery of it this morning.
It is a very sleek silver design. The keyboard area is black. The unit I brought is the following specification. Pentium III 933 Mobile processor, 256Mb RAM, 30Gb Hard disk, 12.1" TFT screen, internal 10/100 network and 56K modem, WiFi, 2 x USB and internal DVD drive.
I brought it from Action.com for £1644.99. The floppy drive is a further £53.99.
The laptop is extremely light weighing in at 1.7Kg. The power adapter is also light weight. To reduce the weight even further, you can remove the DVD drive and replace...

Roadworthy Portege 7220CTe
Review of Toshiba Portege 3110CT - PII 300 MHz - 10.4" TFT by
stephbu
Advantages: Size, Performance, Display
Disadvantages: No internal CD.
...As someone else has already pointed out, most laptops are bought as corporate machines, but since I spend most of my life tied to one - I think the Portege is worthy of an opinion.
I travel very long distances, sometimes by train, sometimes by plane. Often away from the office environment all bar a dodgy modem line. I'm quite lucky to be able to choose my work laptop. Dells are prefered by the company.
I chosen the Toshiba above the others because it fits in with my lifestyle... And here's why...
Design, Weight and Size - When I travel by plane, I need to use my laptop, however restrictions on luggage size often mean that space is a real premium in my bag. Robustness is critical where items get bounced around in car boots, or on planes. Ideally I need a package that is as small and light as possible, and yet could offer me all...

Portege 3110CT and Microsoft XP
Review of Toshiba Portege 3110CT - PII 300 MHz - 10.4" TFT by
Portege3110CT
Advantages: Small, Light and runs Windows XP
Disadvantages: Under powered and runs hot
...The Notebook is SMALL and LIGHT that's it main features.
25.7cm x 21.8cm and only 1.4kg.
The processor runs at 300Mhz and the device will probably come with a 6GB HD.
The Laptop runs hot and the fan never really stops.
The standard package comes with 64MB of memory and can be upgraded to 192MB. I have a 128MB upgrade chip installed, bringing it up to 192MB.
Treat yourself and upgrade your memory.
The original OS was WIN98. I upgrade my Protégé 3110CT to run Window XP pro. If you do upgrade then make sure you have the latest drivers for the external CD-ROM and remove the extra memory before the upgrade. As I remember, at some point it failed because it couldn't address the extra memory. With XP loaded reinstall the extra memory and the system will discover it.
The system can be upgraded using the floppy disk drive if you don...

The Corporates Laptop
Review of Toshiba Portege 3110CT - PII 300 MHz - 10.4" TFT by
Mcsm
Advantages: Not perfect but good keyboard and build quality
Disadvantages: Extra to pay for CD rom
...RRP: £1575.
Corporate portables - and all Toshiba's notebooks are essentially corporate products - are typically supplied with the bare minimum of memory, so we weren't surprise to find that the Portege 3440CT ships with only 64MB as standard. Nor, with it being a subnotebook, were we expecting a huge hard disk, so its 6GB drive was about right. What did slightly puzzle us was the choice of processor - mobile Pentium III/500 rather than a SpeedStep - which seemed slightly at odds with the industry move towards the latter CPU family.
Whatever the chip inside, Toshiba's subnotes have always been synonymous with quality, and the new Portege carrys on the tradition. The build quality is excellent, and the overall construction has been considerably toughened by the use of magnesium alloy not just for the lid surface, but for the top section...

That's Classic .
Review of Nokia 3110 classic by
phil124lufc
Advantages: Great all-round,easy to use, decent price
Disadvantages: camera's not the best indoors.
...Nokia:
The 3110 Classic comes in a well designed case which has a good height, and width. And is a nice phone to hold.Smooth feel and good button layout.
The phone has with a bright screen which has 262k colours on a TFT screen with a 128 x 160 pixel screen resolution. The phone has a decent weight to it 87 grams which is light but still is heavy enough to feel solid & well built.
The Nokia 3110 classic delivers on the performance side of things too i mean for instance i was on a hiking trip with a few mates and tried to phone home and found the reception to be good. The Nokia 3110 classic has a few little details that most people will not notice, like tougher plastic and a larger aerial. to make the phone more durable. the Nokia 3110 classic comes with a 1.3 megapixel camera, music player with an FM stereo radio.
With the Nokia 3110...

It was, and Still is, a Great Phone
Review of Nokia 3110 by
darrenloud
Advantages: Big display, excellent signal receiving, great menus
Disadvantages: A bit bigger than you would like, is starting to get old
...I got my first mobile 3 and a half years ago, and although I now use an Ericsson T28, my Nokia 3110 still has its uses and will always remain a high quality phone.
I got as part of a free package from a newspaper ad, its old now but is still fully functional and the battery is still working fine.
If you didn't know, it was one of the first digital handsets avaiable commerically in the UK and, in my opinion, is still one of the best around.
I find that my Nokia 3110 can get the best signal out of all the phones I have tried and has some of the best features a phone needs. Its SMS facilities are excellent, much better than they are now.
The best feature is the size of its screen, its one of the biggest and clearest I have seen.
My opinion is that if you ever see one for sale at a good price (around £20) buy it. Its always good to have...
