Advantages: Amazing special effects, great action and brilliant cast
Disadvantages: A little too heart-attack-inducing

...On the cruise ship Poseidon, over 2,000 passengers are celebrating New Year's Eve, when a giant freak wave slams into the boat knocking it upside down. Poseidon's Gold sinks to surface

Advantages: Highly fun, helps you discover life in Imperial Roman times, and will satisfy anyone's appetite for criminal intrigue
Disadvantages: May require previous knowledge of other titles in the series, but still brilliant as an introduction to the Falco series

...society ranging from slaves to the Imperial family. The language she employs is highly accessible, with a modern popular tone that doesn't seem out of its time or place and just keeps you smiling. I'll leave you to enjoy the intrigue, just know that Poseidon DOES sink only to surface later with the help of the top god, Zeus and half a million gold sesterces....

I want to be, under the sea!

Advantages: Good disaster film
Disadvantages: A bit repetitive and predictable

...Poseidon is the 2006 remake of The Poseidon Adventure (1972). Directed by Wolfgang Peterson, it is a straight remake and well made action film. The Plot The luxury liner 'Poseidon' is swamped by a huge wave and overturns. The majority of the survivors stay in the main hall of the liner while a small group make a bid to get to the surface. However, the ship is a maze of passages, and the overturning of the ship is causing flooding, fires and other dangers for them. The Cast and Performances There is a good cast on show here. Josh Lucas plays Dylan Johns, one of the leads, as the man who persuades the group that going to the surface is the only safe course of action to take. Advantages: Josh Lucas is quite good, some good effects, excellent musical score...

...This is a FILM-ONLY review --------------------------------------- Take one generic disaster movie plot based on a successful seventies film ("The Poseidon Adventure"). Add in a few generic disaster movie characters, plus a homosexual to make it all cosily politically correct. Throw in a star name or two, get yourself a huge special effects budget, and viola! You have Poseidon. You may be able to work out from that not only that this film didn't do much for me, but that I'm not a great fan of the disaster movie genre. Apart from Volcano (which benefited greatly from having Tommy Lee Jones as the central character), I really can't name another that truly gripped me. Advantages: A big action sequence

...When did the ideas factory burn down? It must have been in the last few years as there can be no other reason for why Hollywood can't seem to get many new ideas. This Summer alone we're getting a new Superman movie, we've had a re-make of The Omen and joining the bunch is a re-make of 70's disaster flick The Poseidon Adventure. With a titanic budget of over $150 million and a US gross of not even half that amount it's safe to say that this movie tanked and was left dead in the water floating away as a distant summer memory. Does the movie deserve such failure? Well to be honest it does. On New Years Eve, Poseidon, a luxury ocean liner is hosting a lavish party to see out the end of the year. Water, Water Everywhere and not a drop to drink!

Advantages: Great action scenes

...I have to say, I was quite excited about watching this. I had read the reviews written in the early days after it's release and they were average, not slating it but not working it up either so I was not expecting a brilliant experience. It was more a feeling of familiarity, having watched the original version from 1972 repeatedly as I was growing up; this version (2006) felt like it would be an old friend. For anyone who maybe doesn't know the tale of Poseidon or The Poseidon Adventure, from 1972, the premise of the story is on New Year's Eve a huge tidal wave knocks over a massive cruise ship and it rolls right round so it is upside down on a tilt in the middle of the ocean. Hundreds lose their lives immediately with the flooding and fires that encompass most of the ship but a large group of revellers on two different floors...
