Postal Madness

Advantages: Good Graphics and Sound
Disadvantages: AI not too intelligent!

...space-time continuum, it's all good, and serves to keep the base game fresh, and guys like me interested in playing. During lulls in gaming, I've even relented and played Animal Crossing. I consider this particular activity as 'electro-shock therapy' for my FPS blues. Ok, so now I've built the biggest house I can, got the golden statue outside the train station, caught virtually all the fish and insects.... I'm bored again. Out of the darkness comes Postal 2 from Running With Scissors and Whiptail Interactive. I initially hesitated buying this game, reading too many of the online previews for it and worrying too much about some of the more negative comments. Still, I needed something completely different to try, and one thing everyone seems to agree with is that Postal 2 is different. So, buy it I did, and the following are my feelings...

Advantages: Fantasic debut album from across the pond

...Give Up is the the debut album from "The Postal Service" an American Electro band and quite frankly the record is fantastic. The Postal Service as a group were created after an unplanned meeting between Ben Gibbard lead singer of Seattle based indie rockers "Death Cab for Cutie" and "Dntel" meastro Jimmy Tamborello. It was the written and recorded using post (Snail Mail), hence the name "The Postal Service". It is recored with the beautiful backing vocals of Jenny Lewis. Jenny Lewis is a wonderful addition to the album's already gorgeous sound. Though simply backing Gibbard in all songs bar the brilliant Nothing Better she offers a very soft, mellow sound to each song and is essential in creating Recycled Air's swirling beauty. After meeting each other working on Dntel's track, "The Dream of Evan and Chan", Ben Gibbard and Jimmy Tamborello formed The Postal Service in 2001. Ben Gibbard, from Death Cab For Cutie, is the vocalist. Most Death Cab fans will have heard of his side-project, and may even be a fan themself. The main concept of the band is simple. In December, 2001, Tamborello sent Gibbard a load of CDs that he had recorded of music he had created on the computer. Gibbard then changed the tracks and added lyrics. Occasionally, Chris Walla, Jen Wood and Jenny Lewis would also help, Walla adding guitar, drums and keybaord, and Wood and Lewis adding their sublime harmony to Gibbards soft voice. I Went Postal Because of Load Times!

Advantages: Un PC, dark humour, imaginative use of weapons

...How to describe this game? Violent? Yes. Not politically correct? Yes. Funny? Yes. Eminently playable? No. Why no? Let me explain. In this first person shoot'emup you play the role of someone who gets fired by his bosses after presumably swearing at them too much ? there is quite a bit in this game ? and then basically going ?Postal?. Then again, that?s not quite true. In this game you follow the anti hero through a week in his life completing various normal daily tasks like returning library books or returning milk and so on. Very mundane. Or is it? Because this is where the game kicks in. You can play the game like a truly normal upstanding citizen and pay for your milk in the store or basically blow away anyone and anything to smithereens, steal the milk, kick the cats, dogs or any other living things in your path...

I mean, I try to give the impression that I'm a serious-minded reviewer, a true paragon of the critiquing arts, someone you - my loyal readers - can turn to in the knowledge that you're getting the very finest in razor-edged opinions... And if I tell you I really sort of like randomly shooting (virtual) shopkeepers in the back of the head... It's just all going to go out of the window, isn't it? Uwe Boll Actually Pulls out a half decent film

Advantages: Absurdly funny plot, Some good bloody fun, Good Film for the game its based on

...Postal is a film that has balls, it takes things that other directors would be afraid to do and it does it. Postal directed by Uwe Boll is a comedy/action film starring Zack Ward and it pushes the limits in what is acceptable in cinema, in a good way. The film is centred around a young man named simply The Postal Dude as he trys to get enough cash to leave his dead-end life. He is fired from his work, finds out his extremely morbidly obese wife is cheating on him and is harassed wherever he goes. He decides to team up with his uncle Dave to steal a shipment of highly priced dolls. The films plot is insane and doesn?t make much sense, But it is fun and enjoyable as it stays close to the game which didn?t have a plot either.
