...As some of you will know from my other review I visited Prague recently. I didn't include Prague Castle in that review because it seemed like the review was already really long but as it is one of the main attractions. This review is going to be really mixed because there is so much to Prague castle. It's really like going to a little village because there is so much to the castle and the area around it and if you want to see it all then you'll need to spend the entire day there. -Tickets- I bought a Prague Card and got the short tour free on that but if you don't have a prague card the prices are: Short Tour- 250 crowns (£9.22) Long Tour-350 Crowns (£12.90) You can also pay to get into individual attractions and discounts are available, as well as family tickets. (Please not that the currency in Prague is changing so...

Review of Prague Castle

Prague Castle - Beautiful & steeped in history

Advantages: Beautiful and magnificent architecture
Disadvantages: Golden Lane. Oh yeah and don't forget the stairs.

...My sister and I decided that we should see Prague Castle. Although my sister had already been there, she felt it justified a second visit. And of course I had never been to Prague before, so I figured this was one of the main places to visit even if you don't get much else in. Was I disappointed? No. It is beautiful and there really is a lot to see. Entry to the grounds is free, so you can just go and look at the architecture and the gardens if you like. There-in lies a sumptuous feast for the eyes. If you like beautiful architecture as much as I do, you will enjoy just walking around and looking at the buildings. To actually get into the various buildings, on the other hand, you have to pay. The price varies depending on just how much you want to see. Please forgive me if the prices are slightly wrong, as I am just going on memory...

Nice and very old castle

Advantages: Good view of the city centre across the river

...It is probably one of the must-go place when you are in Prague . It is located in the hilltop area of Hradcany overlooking the River and is the official residence of the President of Czech Republic. It is a complex with the main castle, courtyard and a few churches. It dated back to the 9th century and has been the historical and political centre for the city and country for years. We first visited the St Vitus Catheral.It is one of the landmarks of Prague and you can see its spires from across the river. It was built in 1344 but more work or decoration was added to it during the course of history. Advantages: Lots of history
Disadvantages: Disparate group of buildings with no focus

...How do you like your castles? Do you go for grey, forbidding, lurking hulks with curtain walls and implicit violence? Or something more refined like a French chateau, more curlicues than crenellations? Do you like to poke about in weed-grow ruins or do you prefer your castles with a roof and coats-of-armour furnishings? Prague Castle - Review (visited in July 2004)

Advantages: An amazing, breathtaking site... a must see
Disadvantages: We visited in the summer, so very hot whilst walking around the largest ancient castle in the world!!

A Castle Fit For A King And Queen

Advantages: Lovely staff, very clean, lots of eating places.

Advantages: Reasonably cheap accomodation
Disadvantages: No in house Restaurant, No Room Service

...The accomodation Upon checking in to the accomodation I was asked for my Passport, so they could check the details of the booking I had made under my own name. I guess they use this procedure against breakages and in case of theft, trouble etc. I have not known this to be a feature in accomodation in England. This company procedure did not bother me whatsoever. I travelled alone to this accomodation, having booked a small room, however when I was shown my room I am sure it would have been suitable for two people. As I was staying in prague for two nights on a leisurely short city break, this did not particularly bother me too much regarding the standard of the facilities. When I was shown my room there were two single Bed's situated side-by-side. The Bed's to my eyes looked nineteen eightees style old fashioned beds...

As 70 is a special number she planned her birthday for the family to have a medieval weekend in Caldicot. She has been planning this for over a year so I know it was going to be a brilliant evening. The main part of her birthday was to go to Caldicot Castle for a banquet. We all had medieval outfits where some were not as pleased to wear as others, but I think we all looked great. After we arrived at Brooklands Motel we got ready into our outfits and all met on the balcony for a toast. Advantages: Lots of interesting stuff, cheap admission, great views

Advantages: One of the most impressive historical buildings I have ever seen

...Carrickfergus Castle I grew up in the shadows of this impressive monument and it amazes me that it is not more widely known outside of the UK. The castle is the best preserved monument in the whole of Ireland and is stunning to look at from all angles. Location The castle is located in the town of Carrickfergus which is situated on the shores of Belfast Lough about 10 miles from Belfast. The castle can easily be reached from Belfast by car (pretty much a straight road), regular buses and trains. The castle is open all year round. Off season it is open 10-4 Monday to Sat and 2 - 4 on a Sunday and during the summer or peak months the opening hours are extended until 6pm daily.
