Prague city guide
Advantages: Good level of detail and recommendations
Disadvantages: Not very easy to use initially
...We went to Prague on a mystery tour, not being told where we were going until we got to the airport, so this book was bought on a whim from East Midlands Airport (a lot of my travel guides are like that!)
Twenty of us went together and this was the only guide we had between us! It performed admirably. The book itself is well set out, with general maps at the back and useful information (phrases, transport, exchange rates etc) inside the front cover. Inside, the guide covers history and culture of the the area before moving onto places to see, eat, drink and sleep.
The review of our hotel (Andels) is spot on, it is a very modern glass and marble place (a little like an upmarket Ikea!), exactly as it says in the book. We found several places to eat, both snacks at lunch time and evening meals from the guide, and all coped admirably...

Prague, A City For Everyone
Advantages: Cheap. Magnificent architecture, great beer, good food, good shopping
Disadvantages: Touts. Not too many Czechs speak English.
...Prague,which I have visited twice,is a wonderful city. It has some magnificent Baroque and Gothic architecture, it is a city with a fine musical tradition, some good puppet theatres, excellent galleries and museums, and is a breeze to get around with its highly efficient, if small, underground. For shoppers too it has some great attractions including fine products such as Bohemian glass and crystal, food products, good china ware and comparatively inexpensive textiles. Compared too to many cities of Western Europe accommodation is cheap, dining out inexpensive and entertainment not too costly either. No wonder that in the post "Velvet Revolution" period, Prague has become a major tourist destination.
Eastern European food dosent perhaps enjoy a great reputation but Czech cuisine has Austro-Germanic influences and you can eat really well...

Review of Prague in general

Prague is such a picturesque city
Advantages: Cheap place to visit.Far nicer than expected
Disadvantages: Language not easy to understand or speak. But most speak english
...I visited Prague in March 2000 with my girlfriend. We arrived in Prague after a 3 hour flight from the UK via Amsterdam for £150 incl tax ex Newcastle. The journey time time to the city with a Limo whcih we booked with our hotel , took 30 minutes and cost only £12.00 plus TIP.I would recommend booking the limo service if possible, as taxis in Prague can be expensive as unscrupulous drivers can charge toursits what they feel like.
Prague is a very compact city, and therefore I would not recommend hiring a car. Most of Prague is connected on a tram system which is beneficial way of traveling. You can buy a tree day ticket whcih is also valid on the bus and underground for only £3.00.You can also walk around Prague , but beware of the banks...they are steep than they look!!!!Or is it just we being unfit??The clime to the top is worth it as...

Prague Castle
Advantages: Great view
Disadvantages: Waste of money
...As some of you will know from my other review I visited Prague recently. I didn't include Prague Castle in that review because it seemed like the review was already really long but as it is one of the main attractions.
This review is going to be really mixed because there is so much to Prague castle. It's really like going to a little village because there is so much to the castle and the area around it and if you want to see it all then you'll need to spend the entire day there.
-Tickets-
I bought a Prague Card and got the short tour free on that but if you don't have a prague card the prices are:
Short Tour- 250 crowns (£9.22)
Long Tour-350 Crowns (£12.90)
You can also pay to get into individual attractions and discounts are available, as well as family tickets.
(Please not that the currency in Prague is changing so...

Hotel In prague
Advantages: Reasonably cheap accomodation
Disadvantages: No in house Restaurant, No Room Service
...The accomodation
Upon checking in to the accomodation I was asked for my Passport, so they could check the details of the booking I had made under my own name. I guess they use this procedure against breakages and in case of theft, trouble etc. I have not known this to be a feature in accomodation in England. This company procedure did not bother me whatsoever.
I travelled alone to this accomodation, having booked a small room, however when I was shown my room I am sure it would have been suitable for two people. As I was staying in prague for two nights on a leisurely short city break, this did not particularly bother me too much regarding the standard of the facilities. When I was shown my room there were two single Bed's situated side-by-side. The Bed's to my eyes looked nineteen eightees style old fashioned beds...

Lord take me to Heaven. Take me to the Mandarin Oriental Prague.
Advantages: Luxury hotel. Brilliant food. Excellent service. Great location. Value for Money!
Disadvantages: Having to go home!
...the city. Making this holiday special required a little bit more than that, so I booked the Mandarin Oriental limousine. For 100 Euro return the chauffeur would meet us in arrivals and then return us to the airport on our departure. Not bad I thought!
Arrival
Once we had cleared the baggage reclaim at Prague airport we met a pleasant gentleman holding up a ?MO? sign with my surname on it. After introductions he carried our luggage to the car which was a sumptuous Mercedes-Benz S Class with plenty of room in the back. There was also complementary champagne arranged by the reservations team for us to sip whilst we drove into Prague. The driver was most friendly and polite and gave us great information on the history of the city and the best things for us to look out for. He also advised us of the great facilities of the hotel. We drove...

Czech out the Hilton Prague!
Advantages: A luxurious way to enjoy this beautiful city!
Disadvantages: It's not exactly centrally located. A minor irritation if you're a tourist.
...It's rare, I know. My young son, Josh (Bless 'im), who is now 4 years old doesn't feature in the body of this review since he stayed with his Grandmother whilst I treated Amanda to a St Valentine's / pre-40th birthday trip to Prague. Had the weather been warmer, I reckon that he would actually have loved it, since Prague actually has quite a lot on offer for kids, even if it's billed as a fairly adult location. We spent two nights there, stayed at the Hilton, and concentrated on more grown-up things. I'm certainly not saying that we hired the prostitutes that, apparently, are two-a-penny. I'm just saying that we didn't watch a single episode of "Scooby Doo" during our very pleasant stay. And, frankly, that was something of a relief (with full apologies to Scooby, Scrappy and the rest of the litter).
So - down to the review proper...

Lovely Prague
Advantages: Possible on a small budget, Fascinating, Beautiful
Disadvantages: Sometimes hard to get around
...My husband and I took advantage of a very inexpensive deal this past weekend, and finally got to Prague. With all the things we'd heard about it, we were a bit worried that we might be disappointed, but this wasn't the case in the least.
Since their "velvet revolution", Prague has taken great pride in improving their city, to make it enjoyable for tourists, while keeping its old-world charm. The architecture ranges anywhere from Gothic to Bauhause and everything in between, and then some. Fortunately, during the Communist regime the ugly mass housing projects were built on the outskirts of the city, leaving the central areas unscathed.
There are several places in Prague that any short-term tourist should make a point to visit. First of all would be the old section of the town. There you'll find winding streets, charming...

Pausing in Prague
Advantages: Spacious, good prices in restaurants, interesting shops, very clean, good loos
Disadvantages: Not much choice of restaurant, not much seating, no English books or papers, nothing for small children
...Twice in September this year we had to fly to and from Prague, using Czech Airlines between the UK and Cyprus. The first time we had a seven hour stopover, and had considered going out to see the city itself; however when we arrived, four things mitigated against this:
1) It was only 5.30am, and we were told that nothing much would open till 9.30 or later
2) Our hand luggage was fairly heavy, and we couldn't find anywhere to leave it
3) We were all incredibly tired
4) It was apparently three degrees Celcius outside!
So having decided not to go out, we were faced with several hours in the airport. Our needs were not great. We wanted to be able to sit quietly and take it in turns to read or nap; we wanted toilets; we also wanted a restaurant of some sort with coffee (vital!) and perhaps some fruit or bread rolls...

Czech Prague Out
Advantages: History, Architecture and Culture
Disadvantages: Lots of walking, steep hills and cobbled streets
...We were planning a weekend break away but the first problem was where. I wanted somewhere with historical interest. David had always been fascinated in the culture of Prague. And so, Prague it was.
Knowing we only had limited time in the city, we wanted to ensure that we got as much as possible from the trip as we could. With this in mind, I set about researching the city and its points of interest using the DK Eyewitness Travel Guide to Prague and the many sites available on the Internet particularly (http://www.prague-tourist-information.com/).
We booked the flight and holiday for the cost of 300 pounds each. We could have paid less but we had specific requirements in mind for the trip. Czech Airlines ran a direct flight from Manchester which gave an arrival time of 10.30 a.m. thereby giving us almost a full two and a half days...
