Short Stay or Long Stay?

...The hotel Ibis Praha City belongs to the Accor chain of Hotels which include many others such as Novotel. The decision was based generally because we had not visited Prague before and wanted the assurance of a Hotel Chain and a good location. The hotel is described as the Ibis Wencelas Square (which is 5 minutes walk from the hotel). Booked direct through the Ibis website we got a reservation with nothing to pay until we checked out of the hotel. The option to reserve e the room was an excellent idea (but with drawbacks) and for the two of us for two nights it cost £149 for a double room. This was the price stated on the website, but booked and shown in Euros €214. The prices are stated in euros at the hotel. The only thing we found is that when you check out you pay in CZK and after exchange rates etc it came to £160. We would...

...Before you read this (assuming that anyone does read this) you need to know two things: Dispite any negative comments; I love Prague, I couldn't recomend it enough to anyone AND, this is my first Ciao comment so expect lots of padding as I try to make 120 words. I get slightly bored of people bandying about words like bohemian and unspoilt when it comes to describing Prague (my appologies to the person I described as unhelpful but I was a little rilled). Prague is a truly beautiful city with stunning vistas and a great sense of the past but begin to stray past the castle and squares and it begins to thin a little. If you travel to Prague by overnight train (arriving at Praha Main I think), you'll wake up (in my case in the company of some amusing and dubious germans I happened to be sharing a carrage with) traveling through fields...

Six Weeks in Praha

Advantages: A beautiful city with enough to keep you going for months. Still cheap, if you stay away from the tourist traps.
Disadvantages: Too hot in the summer. Tourist, tourists every where!

Advantages: Cheap and cheerful
Disadvantages: Not so easy to access the town centre of prague.

Take a sign saying that you are a tourist

Advantages: cheap, good network
Disadvantages: taxi drivers will fleece you

...I recently went to Prague because I was unable to get a cheap flight from Vienna to London at such short notice. I will certainly return to Prague a lot wiser than before. The train ride to Prague from Vienna takes about 4 and a half hours, and is very comfortable, being a EuroCity train. However things change when you get to Prague, especially when you are wanting to make a flight, because your train has been held up. The station which you arrive at in Prague from Vienna (Praha Holesovice) looks to be in the middle of nowhere. Indeed it can seem like this, especially if you arrive in late December, and it is after all the embodiment of most travellers grimmest nightmare. The reality is somewhat better. The Green Fairy awaits....

Advantages: Nice taste, high alcoholic content will have you talking to your walls in a short time period.
Disadvantages: expensive, acquired taste

...About a year ago, a friend and myself got interested in absinthe - well to be specific, the culture surrounding it (mainly because we couldn't find it here, and I wasn't 18). However, last summer another friend went to the Czech Republic and brought back some bohemian style absinth - there's no "e" in it over there - and I fell in love with the stuff. In December 2004, I paid a visit to Praha, and it was the only thing I consumed while there! We loaded up with the stuff, and came back. The main thing I had wondered about was why the stuff I was drinking didn't "louche" - i.e. go cloudy. I found that only Parisian style did this, which is exactly what La Fee is. Coming back from Praha, I suddenly found that multiple places in Belfast sell absinthe - bars, off license and such, so I have been buying bottles left right...

Ripped off at the Airport

...The first time I went to Prague (summer of 1998) I have to admit I didn't even know where it was let alone the currency and language. I got a phone call from my boss one Friday afternoon and was on my way to Prague by Sunday morning. Airport Ripoffs. I met the other guy I was working with at Heathrow and picked up some US Dollars at one of the currency exchanges. After getting out of the airport we waited around for half an hour for the car that was meant to be picking us up, it never arrived. We grabbed a taxi from the rank outside which took us to our hotel, about 20mins away in Praha 7. We paid in US dollars and we later worked it out that the ride cost us 20 pounds.
