Reviews of praktica binoculars
Also good for peepin' toms
Review of Praktica 10 X 25 WA by
kirkby100
Advantages: Lightweight, Good Image Quality, Compact, Cheap.
Disadvantages: The Case.
...~~~~ Overview ~~~~
I’ve had these Praktica binoculars for a couple of years, I mainly use them on walks; trying to spot wildlife and seeing how a photo may look close up (saves getting my camera out).
The binoculars are very standard for their price range. They include an adjustment wheel for manual focusing (mounted in the centre of the binoculars), a second adjustment wheel to fine tune the focusing, depending on the strength of your eyes (part of the left eye piece), two small metal brackets to attach a neck strap and a pair of flip-up eye cups.
The majority of the binoculars are made from a durable rubber material, with sections, including the hand grips and focusing wheel, made from a hardwearing plastic.
The binoculars come with a plastic covered case and a small anti-static cleaning cloth.

As explained above...

Rock solid camera, will never let you down
Review of Praktica MTL-50 by
drewish
Advantages: Very solid construction, excellent quality Zeiss lenses, excellent value
Disadvantages: It is fiddly to load the film, no TTL flash metering or DX film sensing
...I have used Prakticas for about 16 years now, and they are wonderful cameras. Seek one out in your local camera shop.
A drawback with the more "modern" Praktica cameras is their obscure bayonet lenses. These are fantastic quality lenses and are exceptionally good value for money, but are hard to find. The B series cameras are similarly great, but are scarce.
A short history of Praktica:
Before the break up of Germany into East and West - the Carl Zeiss factory made some of the best cameras in the world. They are still doing so under the Contax name - check out how expensive Contax cameras are! In the East, the cameras were called Praktica, and they are just as good but a fraction of the price.
This camera has no add ons - just centre-weighted metering and it is completely manual. It is also fairly heavy and chunky - but feels good...

Practika Luxmedia 10-x3
Review of Praktica Luxmedia 10-X3 by
glowingblue
Advantages: Easy to use with lot's of 'pro' options - great battery life - value for money.
Disadvantages: Mono sound only on video - no hand grip - on board memory small.
...Beautiful classic Praktica photos - by that i mean realistic, not enhanced colours that i had found in my previous (still own 3.2 mega pixel) Sony Cybershot.
Don't get me wrong i was more than happy with Sony's digital representation of the world around us and was often complimented on shots taken - but after using the Praktica and comparing photo's in iPhoto on an Apple G5, the Sony's had a colour saturation that is generally available as a 'touch-up' on photo software.
Choice of exposure and focal points give you an edge and these are represented as 'templates' for the inexperienced - lot's of other little options - including 'Pictbridge' make this camera a step up from the wannabe's.
A lot of camera for the money.
My only gripe is the front hand grip - there isn't one!!...

Olympus 8X25 WP I
Review of Olympus 8X25 WP I by
yassarikhan786
Advantages: Image adjustments to give great view, waterproof, adjustable eye-relief
Disadvantages: fixed magnification, average build and design quality
...Binoculars are mainly used by bird watchers as to get a closer look at them. Many people also use binoculars for occasions such as holidays where they travel to destinations of natural beauty. Using a binocular enables them to see the scenic beauty from a better and closer perspective. The Olympus 8X25 WPI is labeled professional, but can obviously be used by everyday and ordinary people.
These particular binoculars have an 8x magnification ability. This is simply the power of magnification on the binoculars, the 8x magnification means that the object or area you view through the binoculars is going to appear 8x larger or closer. The 8x magnification also means that this is the maximum and minimum magnification power of the binoculars. You cannot view an object or place with a lesser or higher magnification than 8x...

LEICA 8x32 BN BINOCULARS - SEEING IS BELIEVING
Review of Leica 8 X 32 BN by
cetacean
Advantages: Superb optical quality,light,well built.
Disadvantages: Price may put people off.
...I just had to write a review about these outstanding binoculars. Actually it was my friend who inspired me as he had borrowed mine for the day and I was using his old pair.
As we walked around our favourite local 'birding' area after five minutes of using them he said,"…….", well actually I cannot write what he said as I would not wish to offend. Needless to say his exclamation was one that I took as approval of the binoculars.
These binoculars are not cheap, as they will set you back in the region of £600 unless you can pick up a second hand pair. They are well worth the money if you will get the use out of them. A new pair will come with a 30-year guarantee that I thought was pretty confidence building. While we are on the subject of buying can I recommend visiting some local nature reserves as retailers often hold open days where...

Don't let the unknown make put you off
Review of 10x50 DPS R (Porro Prism) by
Don_Rustone
Advantages: Nice sharp image, good field of view, duarable
Disadvantages: Slightly heavy, unknown make
...These binoculars are made by DPS, quite an unknown make in the UK and Europe. For once though, this doesn’t mean that the binoculars are lower quality, as one may expect. These binoculars, which I purchased for longer distances, as they have a nice 10X Magnification and a wide 50mm Field of View, have and still do serve me well for long distances and field work.
The binoculars provide a good magnification and field of view for the price, and provide a nice sharp and bright picture. This is especially good for longer distances were detail is very helpful, or at low light, were a bright picture is needed. Coming back to the quality, it is of a very high standard and well made. These binoculars will last for quite a long time; although after a few bumps they show ever so slightly signs of weakness. This is to be expected though, and I am...

URGENT: NEEDS FLASH
Review of Praktica SlimPix by
amy-lou
Advantages: really handy small size
Disadvantages: NO FLASH
...I own this camera, the Praktica SlimPix, and i find that it is extremely easy to use, i hardly needed to even have glimpse at the instructions that came with it. It has merely two buttons, one that switches the camera on and off and also lets you choose many different options, such as high quality or low quality and you can also choose whether or not you would like to have 10 seconds while you get into the photo, where as the other button found on top of the camera is used to capture the photos you want to take. I chose this camera especially, as the size is very very practical and handy, you can slip it into the smallest pocket of pockets. To get the photo you have captured of the camera you must use the USB cable that comes with the camera, you need to plug it into the USB port and then a programme supplied on a CD - with the camera...

Nice compact pair, suitable for casual use
Review of Nikon 8x21 Sprint II Green by
Don_Rustone
Advantages: Compat, good make
Disadvantages: Limited view
...Nikon are probably best known for their high-quality cameras, rather than binoculars, however their reputation for quality is still present.
These binoculars are nice compact pair by Nikon. The basic stats are the following:
8 times magnification (8 times larger or there abouts)
21mm Field of View
To people who have never used or rarely use binoculars, often these numbers mean nothing. A quick explanation is that the magnification is just how much larger the image is. Real-life needs for magnification are basically the further away the object the higher the magnification you want, so that it is clear to see. However, with increased magnification comes one main problem – breathing and movement. With low magnification, as with these binoculars, the shake or wobble will be quite low, however with 12x, slight movements would move the view...

Nice handy pair of Binos
Review of Nikon 9x25 Travelite 5 by
Don_Rustone
Advantages: Well known make, reliable, compact
Disadvantages: Quite small field of view and magnification
...These binoculars are a very nice pair made by Nikon. They offer 9x Magnification and 25mm Field of View. Due to this they are very compact and fit easily in a pocket and are, as the name suggests good for travel.
These binoculars have many positive features, which I will look at now. The first is the make. In my opinion, when it comes to Optical goods and similar, a well-known make is the way to go. Not only do they offer guarantees, but also you can be sure that it will be well made and worth what you pay. These binoculars are no exception. They are small and compact, which means that they don’t need a large bag to carry them in and can be held for long periods without neck ache. The also fit in the palm of your hand or a pocket, so can be carried on your person, on the move. The 9x Magnification is particularly suited to bird watching...
