Like a credit card but without the monthly bills!!

Advantages: No credit checks, can only use when you top the card up, accepted worldwide
Disadvantages: You may get a restrcited card, charge fees (but thesearen't too high)

Review of Virgin Prepaid Mastercard

Cheapest for International

Advantages: Cheapest. Great line quality
Disadvantages: Occasionally unavailable without prior warning

...I chose Alpha Telecom because it was the cheapest card I found for calling internationally. I call Sweden a lot. I get charged 2p a minute for this at all times. Similar cheap rates are available for most other countries. Check their website for more info: http://www.alphatelecom.co.uk/ The line quality is always as good as BT. It saves me a lot of money using Alpha rather than getting stung by BT! It's fairly straight-forward to open up an account with them and top it up when required. As with all of the prepaid calling cards I have used, the level of service is not as good as you'll get from BT. I use Alpha telecom about 4 times a week. It's probably a couple of times a month that I am unable to use the card. I dial the number and wait - then nothing happens. My advice would be to open up one account with Alpha...

Virgin Prepaid Mastercard has arrived!

Advantages: Discounts on Virgin products, smart looking.
Disadvantages: More suitable for now and again use than regular shopping sprees due to transaction fees.

I wanted a card for online shopping but didn't want a traditional card that would get me into all sorts of financial trouble. The Virgin Money Prepaid Mastercard is provided by 360 Money - the same people behind Splash Plastic, I got mine online via the Virgin Money website. At present this is the only way to obtain a card. Prepaid On Digital

Advantages: No dish, Reasonably priced
Disadvantages: Less channels than Sky, Not avalable everywhere, Can be awkward to install.

...I have brought prepaid On-Digital for the special offer of £99 for 12 months. For that you get all the normal channels, plus BBC Choice, ITV2, BBC News 24, BBC Knowledge, On Sport (Great but I hate sport), Shop and a choice of 6 channels out of the standard chargable channels. After 12 months this package costs £10 per month. You can obviously upgrade your package at any time, you have the standard sky movie and sports channels available. You also get 5 pay as you view movie channels at £2.99 per film. I can't possibly list all the channels and packages available, but note that there is nowhere near as many channels as Sky Digital, check out exactly what channels you get first, this is one of On digitals major disadvantages. worth the prepaid

Advantages: choice of channels
Disadvantages: occasional freezing set tope box

...I bought a on-digital box with 12 months pre-paid subscription. It was worth the money, the choice of channels is fairly broad, with comedy, cartoons, sport, shopping all covered. However one poroblem I do have is my Nokia set top box freezing. It just occassionally sticks on one channel with both the remote control and the on box controls failing to work. It can be solved by unpluggin the box and then plugging it back in (sort of a hard boot!). I keep hoping this may be solverd by a software update, which happen automatically. The on request films have a fairly good selection, but are however slightly out of date, they are sometimes about to come out on video whn they are shown. The price for these is reasonable if you have a few people to watch the movie, but can be expensive if theres only one of you....
