Best router for home and small business users
Review of Belkin ADSL Modem with Wireless-G Router and Wireless G USB Network Adapter - wireless router by velvet202

Advantages: easy installation, gets an internet connection in no time, holds what it promises, excellent value for money
Disadvantages: a bit bulky

...After trying many ADSL modems with integrated wireless routers such as 3Com, I decided to give this one a try firstly because the other devices were so hard to install that I gave up and second because I've read so many reviews saying that it's so easy to install that even a novice like me would have no problems. I purchased it from Ebay (usually not my favourite retailer) and received it the following day. The router came with one ethernet cable, one LAN cable, power adaptor, CD-rom and a brief manual. I popped the CD-rom in and connected the modem to my PC. The CD-rom contains a detailed help manual, but not any installation drives or anything like that. The modem is ready without needing any drivers. After accessing the modem's settings and making three-four changes such as typing in a primary and secondary DNS, I was connected... Read review

Why you should upgrade to Creative Labs
Review of Creative Labs 52Xmx CD-ROM by rapoob

Advantages: Fast, Silent, Cheap in Price
Disadvantages: NONE!

...Okay, I understand that all of you may not be up-to-date with the "techie lingo," so I'm here to help explain everything. I'm going to try to help make everything easy to understand, and if anything is unclear, simply email me or leave a comment and I'll get back to you ASAP. So now on to the good stuff. What is a CD-ROM Drive? A CD-ROM Drive is a drive (it can be internal or external) that allows you to read CD's. Newer CD-ROM drives will allow you to read CD-R's and CD-RW's as well and the easiest way to figure out if your CD-ROM can read newer CD's that were not around 10 years ago is to look at the box. In reality, though, most people do not keep their boxes, so I would just say call up the company that makes your computer and you can find out. For all of you who do not know what a CD is, I would say that you should go be taken... Read review

...This drive is excellent, really easy to install, and really nice to use. Comes complete with Adaptec software which is probably the best on the market in my opinion, very easy to use and navigate. Will you be LITE-ON me?
Review of Lite-on 52x CDROM by Sexy_Young_God

Advantages: Fast Read Speed
Disadvantages: Usage and Reliability

...Today I got my first order for these magnificent and trendy 52 speed cd-rom drives. I couldn’t wait to receive this as it was my first hardware delivery of the week, apart from my new floppy disks. I ordered about 150 of these drive and what can I say they are much better than any other brand I have tried. Lite-On are a new group to me but they offer really good hardware for really cheap and not so nasty prices. The Cd-Rom drives that I ordered were normal 52x Cd-Rom drives with a new technology called Pure-Cav, I don’t know what this is but I guess that it is a new type of hardware added to the Cd-Rom drives. It has an IDE interface; this is used to connect the Cd-Rom drive to the motherboard. It has a power saving function. It supports PLUG AND PLAY, and also has an emergency Eject Button on it. You can read all types of formatted Cd... Read review

Knocks the socks off any other DVD drive
Review of Pioneer DVD 106S by Kevin_Pritchard

Advantages: Fast, reliable.
Disadvantages: None

...-------- There was no software included. If you do buy a DVD-106S, keep in mind it is an OEM drive and you will have to buy some DVD software separately. Overall the drive's features get a 10 out of 10. While the DVD-106S is a new model, I was suprised that I could find it cheaper online than the older DVD-105S. The DVD-106S features the fastest DVD and CD read speeds found on a DVD-ROM drive. Pair that up with an UDMA-66 and a digital audio output and you really cannot ask for more. Overall the drive's features get a 10 out of 10. The installation of the DVD-106S was fairly easy. In my case I set the jumpers to master, attached the IDE cable on the primary chain to the drive and then hooked up the power. The BIOS saw the drive as an UDMA 33 drive when connected to the onboard IDE controller. When the computer was turned on Windows saw the drive fine and DMA... Read review

A high quality cd-rom drive
Review of Teac Desktop CD-ROM 532E by richard_richard

Advantages: Quality and reliability of drive
Disadvantages: Outdated and discontinued model

...The Teac 532 cd rom drive is an cd-rom reader that is designed to be fitted internally into a PC. I had this unit in my PC for about 2 years before I decided to upgrade the whole system. I paid about £120 for this drive and at the time 32x read speed was about the industry standard. How times change as now we are looking up to 72x read speeds on cd-rom drives, which make this unit look positively tortoise-like! Specs This cd-rom drive is compatible with operating systems up to Windows 98. It has a 32x read speed and needs to be fitted into a IDE interface inside the computer. The drive measures, (W) 5.75” (H) 1.65” (D) 7.56”. It weighs 2.65lbs. Overall these are the standard measurements for a cd-rom drive, otherwise it wouldn’t fit into your computer! On the front panel of the unit, from left to right there are, headphone socket... Read review

Review of Deskstar HD and how to install one
Review of IBM Deskstar 34GXP 13.6 GB by kenigma

Advantages: Cheap, good drive
Disadvantages: No installation manual

...bought the HD. The physical installation was no problem at all - just a matter of unscrewing the casing and finding the spare drive bay. After you have done that, you must locate a spare power lead (these are coloured wires with a small white plastic end bit. There should be a spare one of these coming off your existing drive. Once you've done that you need to plug in the IDE cable. This is the flat grey ribbed cable. There should be a spare coming off both your existing HD and your CD-rom. I'd advise using the HD one for simplicity's sake. Once all that's done, close the casing up, boot up the computer and get into the bios settings (usually by pressing Del during the initial startup). The bios setup varies on different computers, but there should be an option to auto-detect a new HD, which it should do without a problem... Read review

'Open up your computer to a world of Multimedia'
Review of Amacom EZCD by kooldavy

Advantages: Portable
Disadvantages: Connection to computer is via parallel cable so slow data transfer

...So a portable CD-ROM. Why you may ask. Well I will tell you this device has saved my bacon many times. Ever had a computer or laptop with No internal CD-ROM drive and it will not boot into Windows? What do you do! Well I just hooked up the EZCD drive to the computer loaded the computer into dos and booted from the drives floppy and the CD-ROM was running. Then windows could be installed no bother! Anyway, it connects to the computer via parallel printer port so its a bit slow at data transfer. But there are versions of this product that you can get that have USB instead. It works well with DOS, 95, 98, ME, XP. I'm not sure about 2000 it would never except the drivers and 2000 always crashed when I tried installing it. So i wouldn't recommend buying it for 2000 unless its a more newer product and has a drivers disk for 2000. You can... Read review

Pure Magic
Review of PowerQuest PartitionMagic by gabrielangeles

Advantages: Can save you hundred of pounds
Disadvantages: Can take a long time to complete a process

...hard disks. Now some people may have no idea what a Hard Drive partition is so I will attempt to explain in a way that is easy to understand. Normally your Hard Drive ( I shall refer to this as a HDD from here on in ) is a single unpartitioned drive and as most people only have one HDD in their systems this is typically called your C: Drive. Let’s say for argument sake that you have a 40 gig HDD. Adding a partition to this HDD can give you many different end results due to the fact that you get to decide how large in gigabytes and megabytes your partition will be so for argument sake lets say that you want to split your one 40 gig HDD into two 20 gig HDD’s. One of the first things you will notice is that now you will have a C: and a D: drive and your CDROM which was your D: drive has now become your E: drive. This is because all HDD labels... Bugged interface and drivers
Review of Creative Labs - 36x with Remote control by QuinnTheEskimo

Advantages: Can show off to your friends
Disadvantages: Unstable

...There was a time when a Creative product was a good product. The name alone was sufficient to know that your newly purchased soundcard would be compatible with every thing you could throw at it, and would be reliable, and stable. Somewhere along the product line, Creative changed. No longer were their products the reliable things that people were used to. I purchased one of the 36 speed cd-rom drives with an IR remote control. Beautiful thing, when it worked. But sadly, it did not work as much as you would hope for. After install, my computer became instantly unstable, and the BIOS refused to acknoledge my second hard drive. After much fiddling, I discovered the cd-rom drive did not like sharing an IDE chain with another piece of hardware. The driver is also buggy, and slows your pc down even when the drive is not in use. When it works... Read review
