Orange SPV E200 - Smartphone or Costly Mistake?

Advantages: Digital camera/Video Camera, Windows Smartphone 2003 operating system, Bluetooth
Disadvantages: Very poor battery life, have to buy SD/MMC card

...I bought my SPV E200 at the start of February 2004 from the Orange Website for £50 (My contract is a basic £25 a month) but is now free with the same contract just over a month later. LOOKS The phone itself is qwuite large and bulky but the way I see it, is that it is packed with features. It weighs in at 120g but to its credit has a fantastic 16-bit TFT showing 65,536 colours. This is by far the best screen that I have seen on a phone (better than the Nokia 6600 - which I also have) Operating System The phone runs on the Windows Smartphone 2003 operating System, which boasts some fantastic features. Being used to the simplicity of the Nokia 6610 and 6600, this was much more complicated to use. However, being able to run Internet Explorer and MSN Messenger is a fantastic bonus. Also among its array of stunts is playing MP3s...

The new CPD-E200

Advantages: Good price - Excellent display
Disadvantages: A/P wires visible, fiddly OSD button

...I have recently built my own system from scratch. After looking at many reviews in magazines and the web, the monitor I decided to go for was the CPD-E200, as it had some excellent write-ups and for the price, was said to be in a class of it's own for a 17" monitor. Unfortunately, as soon as I tried to order it, it was discontinued :-( Fortunately, it was going to be replaced by the CPD-E220 :-) The E220 is, for all intense and purposes, the same monitor as the E200. It looks the same, it has exactly the same specs and the price is the same too. Probably just a propagander plot by Sony. However, the monitor displays a near perfect picture at very high resolution. I have taken it up to 1280 x 1024 and it looks a treat (except that you cant see the icons because they are so small). I use it at 1124 x 768 and find it suits my eyes...

Under Powered? Under Rated!

Advantages: Performance, Comfort, Price
Disadvantages: Rear Parking - you need park sensors!

...The new E200 (W211 model) is superb value for money. Starting at £26,000 it is in a far higher class than most cars for the same money. I was sceptical about purchasing one because the performance figures suggest it is a bit of a slouch but in reality, coupled with the manual 6 speed gearbox, performance is lively and more than you might expect. Handling is also superb, particularly with the optional £300 sports suspension which often makes you think you are driving a smaller sporty car. Motorway cruising is a dream making those long journeys effortless. A cavernous boot with optional split fold rear seats means that those with previous experience of Hatchbacks won?t miss them. Overall this is one classy car, when stopped at lights, the loudest noise is the heater and you struggle to hear that!...

Not just a phone...

Advantages: Feature packed, Flexible, Powerfull
Disadvantages: Size, Joystick, charging adapter

...I've had my SPV E200 for 18 months now and it's still going strong. The first thing a lot of people notice is the size and weight of this handset. It is quite a bit heavier than most. The thing to consider though is that If you put a random phone at one side, and a random PDA at the other, the E200 fits comfotably into the middleground. The E200 takes many of the functions found in a PDA, and combines them with the conveinience of a phone sized device. If you think an E200's size and weight are a problem, walk around with a PDA + clamshell phone in the same pocket for a week and then think again ;-) Battery life next: The battery life of my E200 has never been a problem for me, I am a heavy user and can get through 2+ hours talktime / day, I use it for the web a lot too. I can usually get away with charging every other day...

a little old but still a handy tool

Advantages: decent during its day
Disadvantages: lacks bluetooth, gprs...

...if you're into all the latest, uptodate high tech gadgets then this really isn't the place for you. i got this pocket pc about 2 yrs ago and at that time it was light years ahead of the competition. 1. it had the ability to handle mp3's and full length video clips 2. 64MB of memory 3. two expansion slots for flash memory cards: one for Type II CompactFlash (CF) and another for Secure Digital (SD) (something NO other ppc had) 4. colorful screen that's readable indoors and outdoors 5. has infrared 6. built-in mic 7. detachable battery slot that allows you to change an additional batt when the current one is low someone i know had the ipaq 3800 series with a pcmcia wireless card and my casio had the CF wireless card. because his ipaq didnt have a CF card slot, his pda became almost 3 times the size of mine! the casio e-200...

A good phone, let down by the battery

Advantages: Amount of software available, ringtones, MMS etc
Disadvantages: Battery life, Bluetooth reliability

...I purchased this phone in January 2004 as an upgrade to my account on Orange. I had previously owned many phones connected to Orange, up until now mainly Nokias. I have also previously owned a Palm, then an iPAQ, and have found that it is not easy to carry both the phone and PDA with me when I am out and about. This has sometimes caused problems, as I have needed to access information stored on my PDA. It is very difficult to compare this phone to a 'normal' type phone such as a Nokia or Motorola, as this is not a normal phone. It is a Smartphone, running a Windows based operating system. It is more like a PDA, with phone support. Comparing the phone to a conventional PDA would also be difficult as the screen is much smaller on the SPV E200, and many applications will not run on the SPV. Having said that, the phone runs the .NET...

Flatter is better

Advantages: Its a Sony
Disadvantages: Reset button badly placed

...I bought the Sony E200E about 6 months ago, i am very pleased with it. I had been looking for a new monitor for a while and when i saw this one i fell for it. The tube is flat and when i say flat its flat, max resolution is 1600x1200 but i wouldnt recommend it i found 1024x768 great at 100hz refresh rate. The control Functions are done by a single toggle button which i found very easy to use. There are all the usual features to adjust like picture width and height and loads more extras that you won't believe. The monitor came with a driver diskette which went in easy. I would have liked it if the input cable would have been detachable but you cant have it all. The picture is excellent and the colour excellent to. The only gripe i had was with the reset button on the front of the monitor underneath, on 2 occasions i have...

I'm now a proud owner

Advantages: Bluetooth, Windows CE and Screen Size
Disadvantages: Chunky and toggle joystick

...Free on a £15.00 a month contract; the Orange SPV E200 is a combination of: Digital Camera/Video Persional Digital Organisor Mobile Phone The above is packaged together with Microsoft's Windows CE. A recent free upgrade to the software has provided the better quality of battery life and sound quality. After the upgrade was applied, I can now say that I am a proud owner and not an owner who kept his phone in his pocket and feared recieving calls in case the battery ran low. The Windows CE software allows the user to download lots of games (Pac man, doom, jawbreaker, card games), other MS products (e.g. MS Word, Excel, and Project), ringtones and other gadgets. The SDRAM (little inexpensive card easily inserted and removed from the phone ) memory can be upgraded to a Gig to allow you to download videos and MP3 for those...

The Monitor That Dreams Are Made Of

Advantages: CRISP FLAT PERFECT IMAGES
Disadvantages: ANNOYING LINES AND FLATNESS SHOWS DUST EASILY SO IT NEEDS CONSTANT WIPEING

...In September 2000 I purchased a Sony Multiscan E200E and I have recieved nothing but sheer pleasure from it since. The screen is so flat that you can see the screen from any veiwpoint in a room. The image is crystal clear too, I am a graphic designer and I have tried and tested many monitors and not a single one compares with this. The options for configuring the screensize etc is the best format I have come across and it is pleasurable to use. apart from graphic designing I also like to play strategy games which usually entail looking at very small images but the Multiscan E200E gives each image a clear, crisp and defined edge. The only problem I have ever found with it is the two lines that divide the screen. At first I thought it was a fault and it was very obvious on a blank screen but after a while you get used to it and I can no...
