Finecam S4 - Problems Overshadow The Quality
Review of Kyocera Finecam S4 by
elston
Advantages: Good image quality, small and light.
Disadvantages: Battery life, pop up flash, shutter lag and memory card size.
...I bought the Kyocera Finecam S4 in November 2003. It was my first digital camera and being my son was due to be born soon I thought it should be a good quality one.
After looking around to see what I could get for around £250, I found the Finecam S4 on offer. I liked the look of it so decided that I would give it a try after being told that it took very good quality pictures. So what do you get in the box:
The 4 Megapixel Finecam S4 Camera
16MB Panasonic Secure Digital (SD) Card
BP-900S Li-ion rechargeable battery
AC Adapter / Charger
USB and Video cables
Wrist strap
Pixela ImageMixer software
Manual and Quick start guide
The camera itself falls into the category of 'micro camera'. It measures just 3.8 x 2.2 x 1.2 inches and sits very easily in your hand. And if that wasn't enough it weighs in at a measly 175g...

Kyocera Finecam S4
Review of Kyocera Finecam S4 by
arsyteee
Advantages: Small, compact and robust. Good battery life when new.
Disadvantages: Slow to write images to disk, short battery life after prolonged use
...We bought the Kyocera S4 about 3 years ago after doing a lot of research into camera. Not being keen photographers, we wanted a camera that was easy to use but that took good quality photos.
At first we were very pleased with the S4. The picture quality is great and at 4 mp the files are reasonable sized. The 16mb card that came with the camera had to be replaced as at "fine" quality we could fit about 10 photo's on there. We bought a 256mb and can fit about 80 photo's on.
The battery is a rechargeable one and this is one of the reasons to buy the camera. We had previously bought a Pentax camera and were very disappointed at how quickly we were going through AA batteries. The S4 had a quick recharge time and long life, enabling you to fill the memory card before needing a recharge, however 3 years on and the battery last...

optico s4
Review of Pentax Optio S4 by
jacob_a
Advantages: Verry Small But Gives High Qulity Pictures 3x zoom
Disadvantages: Slight barraling When taking pictures without zoom
...Before to Buying this camera, I had tried other
cameras in the ultra-compact category. None of which came close to the quality and sharpness of the S4.
It is packed full of feachers. including the video mode is not bad to for e-mailable video greetings and the time laps mode is very good
The battery life is quite good even with flash
a problem with this camara is that the power button and shooting button are too close together and the wrong way round.
All in all this is a very good camara for its size and wate and the unique lens design gives very good qulity picturs and a flush fitting lense on a camara 2cm wide.

Epson EMP S4, one small, great projector
Review of Epson EMP S4 by
koobra
Advantages: Portable, quick to turn on/off, very easy to set up and use.
Disadvantages: Loud cooling system, rubbish internal speaker.
...I bought 10 Epson EMP S4 projectors for school I work for at summer 2006.
Below you will find my personal opinion after one year of using and maintaining that product, but first short description.
Epson EMP S4 is updated (in 2006) version of EMP S3. Epson's EMP S(x) line of projectors is design to suit mobile and office users. And it does it perfectly.
It's small (33X25X9cm) and light (2.6kg). It comes with small remote control and a bag with shoulder strap.
It's brightness (1800 ANSI lumens) and resolution (800x600) is sufficient to display presentation (text, photos and short movies) at 2-6m distance onto white wall or whiteboard (usage professional project screen will improve image brightness and sharpness) in bright room.
It has three types of video inputs (15 pin VGA, S-video and composite video input), so at the same time...

S4 NEO + RADAR
Review of Snooper S4 Neo by
dean693
Advantages: It works...but
Disadvantages: Little more to pay+does it work?
...Right my first review so bear with me.
Ok firstly i have bought a new car wich exceeds limits swiftly, but i dont condone speeding.
Secondly i paid £2k to make it faster,(ditto above)
Hence buying a SNOOPER S4,for which i paid £279 + £100 for the additional radar detector.
First up,to actually make this thing work you need to register online because it wont work otherwise(security so say) to register it costs!!!!!!
Now i paid about a hundred quid for 3yrs which includes updates for that period. So you have to be online(or do a lenghty phone session).
The downloading and updating is very simple and please dont be put off by this.
Once this is done its a real doddle, just plug in to your cigar lighter and go.
Does it work?
Yes,superb so far and living in Bournemouth it goes of often.
There is a pleasant ladies voice advising...

Pentax Optio S4 Digital Camera
Review of Pentax Optio S4 by
JGreenwood1
Advantages: Compact/ High quality pictures
Disadvantages: Short battery-life/ no memory card included
...This camera is a small (3.3 x 2 x 0.8 inches), robust and reliable camera and has some of the best picture quality I've seen in any 4 MegaPixels digital camera. This camera has 3x optical zoom which for its size is very impressive though the very edges of pictures can blur with full zoom. If you especially want a camera with good quality zoom pictures then this camera is not for you.
The camera features a menu screen which will take some getting used to, though the build quality of the whole camera is very credible and it is very advanced technically. This camera also includes a simple cam-corder function.
However, with all these hi-tech features there has to be a couple of downfalls, and there are! Unfortunately the battery is drained very (very) quickly and so you will almost always need to carry a spare. You will also need...

BIG BROTHER REALLY IS WATCHING YOU!
Review of Snooper S4 Neo by
sue.51
Advantages: Gives voice alerts rather than bleeping, shuts up if you are driving below the speed limit, tells you the reported speed of the road, records and monitors your speed limit, you can record your own high risk zones
Disadvantages: Database is not up to date, laser detect is questionable
...NOTE: This is not a radar detector unless you purchase the S4r-neo or the optional Snooper S100 RLD unit for around an extra £100.
I do a fair amount of driving in my work and my personal life, and have, for some time been getting more and more paranoid over the increasing number of fixed and mobile speed cameras around. Between my house and my daughter’s boyfriends, there are no less than 5 cameras, a slight slip and that’s 15 points on your licence and an instant ban.
Now I am not manic driver by any stretch of the imagination. However, a near miss with a police van just outside my office about 6 weeks ago, while moving with the flow of the traffic, I got hit doing about 34 in a 30 zone getting me rather worried.
I spent a few restless nights waiting for that ticket to arrive in the post, thankfully it didn’t. It did...

Do you want to keep your license?
Review of Snooper S4 Neo by
rexon1
Advantages: Superb warnings of fixed locations
Disadvantages: Vulnerable to mobile cameras without the extra S100RLD attachment
...alert, tone and display of the information of camera type, speed limit and how far away it is (also user defined between 100m-1000m). You can even toggle between 3 ‘Logic’ settings to stop warnings of cameras that only include the other side of the road etc. If you are travelling below the posted speed limit you can enable ‘smartmute’ it will only give a brief warning instead of alerting you until you have passed the camera. Lastly there will sometimes be cases where a camera site is not recognised and the press of a button on the S4 will record the co-ordinates for you to upload, snooper to evaluate and add to their database.
What about extras?
If you are after added protection especially from mobile camera units, to purchase the S100 RLD is highly advisable. This plugs in to the S4 and detects radar scatter most importantly and laser...

Good Detection Device but still not a 'Failsafe'
Review of Snooper S4 Neo by
Whinger
Advantages: Informative and Accurate enough to protect you most of the time
Disadvantages: "most of the time" is not as good as "all of the time"
...not offer me 100% peace of mind but it still affords more peace of mind than if I did not have an S4 NEO. I am not habitually a fast driver, I have (touch wood) full No Claims history, and a clean licence - and even though I own a fast car (see my op titled "Rocket from the Land of the Rising Sun" if you wish …) I always try to respect the conditions of the road wherever possible and use my car with as much responsible judgement as I can. I have been to the funerals of both friends and members of family who have died in Road Traffic Accidents and at 37 years of age am quite aware of my own mortality. If one the other hand you are a driver that constantly stays within any given speed limit (which OF COURSE you will know the exact speed of … thought the entire road network of the UK!) then you may not find this device to be so useful. However...
