...When we were first married, my husband used to attempt to surprise me on birthdays and anniversaries by booking weekends away for us. He's long since given up because weekends are now the only time we get together and so being at home beats most places we could be instead. On my birthday about 7 years ago he really surpassed himself by finding (goodness only knows how) and booking a weekend at Butley Priory near Woodbridge in Suffolk. He's not one to skimp on these things and paid about £300 for the weekend which was kind and generous but probably a bit over the top. It might sound like a strange place to choose, particularly bearing in mind that at the time we did actually LIVE in Suffolk and not too many people would go for a weekend break in the county they lived in. ...Me and my boyfriend stayed here a few months ago at the Breadsall Priory in derbyshire. We had a look on the interntet to see what the hotel was like and we thought it was a resonable hotel so we wasnt expecting anything spectacular, we were just going to have a relaxed weekend to get away from family and friends. As we took a walk around the grounds we were totally amazed by the grounds sightings as they were truely amazing and gorgous and the building itself was as the original was with hardly and new construction work on it and the place itself held a wonderful history. The bar is in part of the original building and it is fantastic with all the old stone walls and fire places. If you like golf then this is defanatly the place to go for a game, it has a great course that goes on for miles and miles and is surrounded by beautiful...

I knew that I was very close to the remains of this 12th century monastery as I had been following a string of road signs for a couple of miles. Gorgeous dolls house furniture!

Disadvantages: Take forever to arrive, go somewhere smaller and you can take your suite away

..., which isn't guaranteed! The seat backs and arm cushions are attached to the sofa with zips, and one seat-back zip has broken just from our sitting against it! Perhaps not worth the money after all. I now think you're better off going into a less well known, smaller furniture retailer and buying a suite for about £500. It probably won't be ruined much before a DFS suite and it's not so gutting to have to replace!...

White, Sherbourne furniture - not wardrobes

Disadvantages: No measurements on initial plan, designer didn't give full options of various height/depth/widths.

Lots of flexibility regarding height, width and depth but designer tends to draw what THEY like, where THEY want it, so be ASSERTIVE and ask loads of questions about alternatives/options/measurements/positioning. Initially, we nearly ended up with low level bedside cabinets, hadn't initially been told we could have more suitable mid level - all because designer drew what SHE likes!! Also had to absolutely INSIST she move kneehole dresser to where I wanted it as opposed to where she wanted to put to be "symetrical" - who cares, it's MY bedroom. She chose 500mm deep dresser top, same as existing for "more floor space" (as fitted butting right up to wall as opposed to Schreiber self assembly which had 5" gap behind it - because of previous rad position, which would be moved for Sharps furniture, thus closing that gap...

...DFS is a furniture shop that sells mainly sofas and armchairs as well as some additional accompanying furniture. The majority of their range is produced in high quality fabrics and leathers and appears to be very well made. We have just purchased our new sofa from there after looking for many weeks for the right "deal". Many of the furniture shops offered some great ranges and great prices but did not match our requirements exactly. Eventually we found DFS offering the ideal sofa and at half price. What we liked about DFS was the lack of "Hard Sell" tactics. There were plenty of sales staff around but none were hassling us to see if they could help. They made themselves obvious enough for us to ask if we needed assistance. The layout of their stores is both logical and functional. Nothing is too cluttered and the suites are layed out...

...Now that my son is has grown past playing with plasticine and slopping food everywhere into playing with girls and slopping beer everywhere, and my dog is too old and fat to jump on the furniture, it is with a certain sense of irony that I regard my latest purchase in the suite department. Why, oh why, oh why, oh w.........you get the idea, did I never, in the years during which the choice would have made my life easier, choose a leather sofa? At the beginning of last year, when my suite looked as if it had been used for practice scrums by the New Zealand All Blacks, those nice people at DFS had yet another sale!
