Trek...... This is fast
Advantages: fast, light, high spec for cheap price
Disadvantages: None
...be increased quite significantly to get anything that would last.
I spent hours researching, joining forums (I highly recommend Bike Radar) etc in order to find the ideal bike in my budget.
Whilst taking my trusty steed of a mountain bike to Pauls Cycles in Dereham I thought that I'd better have a quick look at the small selection of racers in the shop. It was there I saw it?? The Trek 1200 in black and red.
I knew the Trek name and knew that they were generally a good, quality brand. That was it though.
The price was £799 which was way over my budget, but because it was a 2006 model I could have something knocked off it. The bike was described as 'shop soiled' since it had fallen over and had a tiny scratch on the frame. If the bloke hadn't told me this I would never have noticed it despite looking over the bike thoroughly...

Star Trek: Massively Overrated
Advantages: Swift plot development; suitable for nearly all ages.
Disadvantages: Terrible plot; unconvincing characters; indifferent acting.
...Among the first of this year?s summer blockbusters has been J J Abram?s new Star Trek movie, which has been widely regarded as having successfully brought this iconic franchise into a new century and to a new generation.
The reviews have been overwhelmingly positive ? Ann Hornaday in the Washington Post wrote a prayer of thanks to the ?Lord of Star Trek? for a movie that ?has miraculously resurrected a wheezing but beloved and still relevant franchise?; the Daily Mail salutes ?the most outstanding prequel of all time?; and the Times celebrates ?a dazzling and beautiful rebirth? of Star Trek. The reviewers on Ciao so far give the film a full 5 stars, and the Internet Movie Database (IMDb) gives it 8.4/10 from over 75,000 ratings.
Against this tidal wave of enthusiasm stands me. I don?t even have a sidekick to help me. I must alone...

Trek Returns!
Advantages: All the original cast return.
Disadvantages: Can be slow in parts.
...After the surprise cancellation of Star Trek in 1969 whilst it was in it's third season, the opportunity to resurrect Star Trek, following the more recent success of a certain science fiction film called Star Wars, was hard to resist. Paramount had a dilemma, how could they bring back the series in such a way that the audiences would take to this. The answer was simple, a follow on series called Star Trek: Phase II. Production designs were drawn up, scripts written, new sets were built and the original cast were reunited, well nearly all of them as Leonard Nimoy had originally refused to appear as Spock. At the eleventh hour, Paramount decided that the focus should not be a TV series but a big budget film that could rival Star Wars. This allowed all the cast including Nimoy as Spock to once again take their places on board the newly...

Star Trek - Alternately Outstanding
Advantages: Fantastic Action and spills, the effects are amazing and will pull in new fans
Disadvantages: None
...Star Trek.... well... first of all... I have not even seen the tv series (original or the next frontier) or have i seen ANY movies. (well 1/4 of a movie and i'll say.... i got parts of the movie i saw but not much (FYI it was Star Trek: Nemesis).
Moving to my point....
Star Trek....
Was....
The Worst film if you dispised all actions and thrillers, but one of the BEST films of the decade if you love actions and thrillers like me!
I was actually worried that I wouldn't get the plot of the film, but surprisingly enough, I did and i really enjoyed the film.
WARNING: Like all my reviews, I reveal the beginning, so if you do not wish to know, please just scroll past the next two paragraphs.
As the USS Kelvin becomes attacked by the Narada (a Romulan mining ship), all the crew members evacuate. The current captain is asked...

Star Trek, maybe it should have been left alone
Advantages: Okay if you don't think too hard about it
Disadvantages: Plot holes and poor acting
...I was a bit wary of watching this film, because I really enjoyed the later Star Trek films, and wasn?t sure a prequel was a good idea.
Synopsis
The story follows James Kirk from the events of his birth and his yearly years, but mainly concentrates on his first voyage on the Starship Enterprise. It also follows the life of Spock and how he was an outcast both on Vulcan and Earth due to his mixed parentage. Spock as we all know also ends up on the Enterprise.
Early in the film Kirk is accused of cheating on a test, and during the enquiry a distress call is received from Vulcan and Starfleet respond by sending off the fleet to investigate. Despite the fact Kirk is suspended he sneaks on the Enterprise as it heads off. The ship is being run by all new recruits apart from the captain, so it sets off later than the rest...

A New Beginning, A New Future? The New Star Trek
Advantages: 127 mins of sheer warp speed adventure. The best Star Trek ever an outstanding movie
Disadvantages: Not enough of it you want more
...Someone told me the other day that ?People who like Star Trek are nerds!? The ensuing conversation brought up words like geek, weird, odd and resulting in my colleagues announcing that I am on another planet; with a black hole for a brain. It really gets on my goat when a handful of tactless people make those daft sorts of comments.
A Facebook contact cheered me up saying ?It?s true...but being a nerd, geek or weird is something to be proud of! Who would want to be a dim, colourless, corporate drone?? I agree therefore I will stand up proudly and say, ?I AM A NERD AND? I LIKE STAR TREK? I, like millions of other people. Don?t get me wrong, I am not one of those fans who swat up on the techno-babble or know specific dimensions and details, I don?t dress up as my favourite character. I have never been to a convention although I did...

More than just time on your hands
Advantages: Just about does anything
Disadvantages: Doesn't cook the breakfast though !!!
...a realistic reading !!...bearing these facts in mind it is still a fascinating gadget.
I suppose you're wondering how much this little guy is..well its top retail price is about £250, but I got mine for £140, there are places on the internet who will sell it for anything between, lots of places in the USA who will ship to the UK so if you are tempted....SHOP AROUND, there are bargains to be had...the Casio Pro Tech series of watches are serious gear for you outdoor freaks or gadget folk alike...definitely worth considering
Thanks for reading.........

Trev Tries Trek
Advantages: Good re-introduction to road bikes
Disadvantages: expense and pedals
...daughter finished her Istanbul to London lone cycle, she began planning an idiotic cycle around the coastline of India.
Once that plan came to fruition at the start of this year, it was clear that any hint she gave of future cycling plans, should be taken seriously.
So the planning has begun for her solo circumnavigation of the world by pedal power on land and sea, in world record time!
Preparation for that requires some quick spins - so Lands End - John O'Groats and Belfast - Dublin are being suggested.
Clearly, Dad needed a bike to keep her company.
2 The Frightening Choice
Once a bike was a bike was a bike.
Now there is a frightening choice of road bikes plus hybrids, plus tourers, plus mtbs and urban ones too.
Since dear daughter has such vast experience of bikes, her advice led me in the general direction of the Trek brand...

Trek and travel
Advantages: see loads in a short space of time
Disadvantages: fast paced, tiring
...Trek America is a travel company specialising in tours throughout America and Canada. It is not an 18-30's holiday company although most of the travellers will be this age. Trek America work under different names in other countries, I know their Australian counterpart is Let's Trek.
When we decided we wanted a tour in America we considered various tour groups and decided on this one as it seemed to cover what we wanted and seemed to have a similar sort of attitude to use (i.e not a club 18-30's we didn't want to be either durnk or hungover the whole time, we actually wanted to see and experience the place). We did the Western BLT which toured from San Francisco to LA, taking in Yosemite National Park, Las Vegas and Grand Canyon.
The tour was very tiring with long days driving but this is understandable considering the distance...

Taking the Trek Further and Further
Advantages: Great Price, Great Components, Super Reliability
Disadvantages: None whatsoever
...noticed was the handling - rather than the soft feel of the aluminium forks of my original Trek 1500 the carbon fibre forks felt weird - more rigid and powerful. Combined with the carbon fibre seat post the feel of the tarmac was completely different and it took several miles before I started getting used to it.
The wheels that the bike arrived with would not be my first choice - I have had Bontrager Select wheels before, and while they are very strong and ultra-reliable they lack a bit on the aerodynamic side. Mavic Ksyrium SSL would be my choice - but until i save up another £500 I'll keep with the Bontrager! Tyres again are a personal choice - and Michelin Pro-Race are the best i've had for both puncture resistance and speed - the Bontrager tyres that come with the bike are fine for spares!!
The other change to my original bike is...
