On this ossasion, July 2008, my company booked me into the Mount Herbert Hotel This is near the Lansdowne Stadium and about 15 mins from where I was working. I arrived at the hotel at about 7am and the staff on reception were extremely obliginging in allowing me to check in early. Up and down in 3 days, as we did it, is a seriously bad idea, with altitude sickness and so on, the only possible way to climb is to take 6 steps forward and two back - there is no ammount of training that can prepare a couch potato to do this, you must be fit in body and mind, and then make your peace with whoever before you go get to the top. On route to the summit of Mount Kenya there are a few lodges, one, about half way up has its own porter who will share his food at a price.
