Cinema in my courtyard
Review of Toshiba TDP ET20 by
neo1983
Advantages: HDTV ready and compatible,DVD and 5,1 Audio system functions, Image quality
Disadvantages: The price is high but worth every penny; Took 1000 words to review :)
...theaters are based on this technology and the quality is just great.
One application is DLP front projectors (small standalone projection units). DLP, along with LCD and LCoS are the current display technologies behind rear-projection television, having supplanted CRT projectors. These rear-projection technologies compete against LCD and Plasma flat panel displays in the HDTV market.
In DLP projectors, the image is created by microscopically small mirrors laid out in a matrix on a semiconductor chip, known as a Digital Micromirror Device (DMD). Each mirror represents one or more pixels in the projected image. The number of mirrors corresponds to the resolution of the projected image (often half as many mirrors as the advertised resolution due to wobulation) 800x600, 1024x768, 1280x720, and 1920x1080 (HDTV) matrices are some common DMD sizes...

Disadvantages: Didnt work as well on old toshiba TV's
...- The wall opposite the fire place).
The projector produces almost NO sound when it is switched on, apart from the low hum of the internal fan and when the volume was turned up, This sound was driven out.
Overview of the projector:
DLP Display Technology For Great Viewing
Native SVGA Resolution (800x600)
2000:1 Contrast Ratio
Bright Display With 1800 ANSI Lumens
# Large Digital Keystone Correction Range
# 3000 Hours Of Lamp Life (I have yet to test this, but according to the information on the box, This is the case)
# Ultra Quiet 27db Operation (Like I said before, Barely a whisper)
# 1.9kg Weight (Because of this, I do NOT recommend fitting one of these to your ceiling. It works better when placed on a side table)

Infocus Lite Pro 425 Projector
Review of InFocus LP 425 by
richard_richard
Advantages: Reliable, good picture quality, easy to use
Disadvantages: Starting to show its age!
...The Infocus Lite Pro 425 is a LCD projector designed to display computer images onto a screen or wall. Its compact size shows that it has been built with portability in mind.
This projector was purchased about 3 years ago by the company I work for. The projector cost about £1400 and at the time and it was a pretty high specification machine.
The projector can display a maximum computer resolution of 800x600 and this is in 24bit colour. Although this is still acceptable, the resolution is perhaps a little low by today’s standards.
For those who are unsure of what an LCD projector does, here’s a brief explanation of what we use it for. The LCD projector is designed to be used with a laptop or desktop computer and is best used to display images onto a white screen. If you are familiar with overhead projectors, (like the ones most of us...

NO MORE VPL!
Review of Sony VPL HS1 by
jellybean11
Advantages: quiet, horizontal AND vertical keystone adjustment
Disadvantages: no gamma correction facility, low output
...’t the case I’m actually very impressed with the on-screen image and perfect colour-balance but there are a few niggling issues that could be corrected.
Even poor quality broadcast images look good and have a stable image; there are few processing artefacts on high-contrast screens. The picture is, of course, impressive through its size alone. If Sony could make one improvement to this model I would hope they could include a decent gamma correction facility to correct the misty grey veil that appears over black areas sometimes.
As I mentioned previously the projector itself is LCD-based, as opposed to using the increasingly popular DLP technology, so each of the three individual panels is dedicated to a primary colour. There are 480,000 pixels per LCD, and these together give the projector its native image resolution of 800 x 600, although...

Project the world in a whole new light.
Review of Acer X1160 by
multidonna
Advantages: Cheap, lots of features, lightweight and compact, energy efficient
Disadvantages: It will do everything except make you a cup of tea.
...the resolution on your computer or laptop. SmartFormat Technology has a simple mode which allows for easy extension between speakers for presentation use.
The resolution is 800 x 600 SVGA. There are two main types of resolution, SVGA (800x600) and XGA (1024x768) these apply to computer outputs as well so it is advisory to check the resolution of your computer before you purchase a projector however most XGA projectors will support SGVA formats without much loss in quality but displaying an XGA format on an SVGA projector will make it difficult to see with blur and lines.
The Acer X1160 comes with a built in Keystoning capability which corrects the position of the picture on what it is display on. In other words if you place your projector below or above the desired location to be fully visible on screen then this product will automatically compress...

==handy home cinema==
Review of Sony VPL ES4 by
saudmedhat
Advantages: Affordable and handy
Disadvantages: some small pixellations may appers if well focused image
...I bought this device as a part of home cinema and i intended to watch DVDs .the maximum resolution of 800x600 pixels is pretty enough for most commersially available DVDs. with its bright illumination making it unnessesary to use the maximum lighting. setting light mode to ""standard"" can prolong life expectancy of the lamp further than the predicted and may reach 3000h.
not to forget it's low noise and efficient cooling even after hours of continuous use.
if you install and use it properly, you will not need frequent maintainance except ;maybe; cleaning the air filter every few months or when it heats abnormally.
Final advice ,it may be wise to buy an extra lamp togather with the device as new brands will appear after few years and it may be more difficult to find the suitablt lamp thence.
there is one point that may appear...

Sony VPL-CS1 A Projector Well Ahead Of It's Time
Review of Sony VPL CS1 by
taylora-2006
Advantages: 1280 x 1024 Maximum Resolution
Disadvantages: Not designed for ceiling mounting.
...This is a great projector overall. I recognise that this is a fairly old projector and pretty much outdated, but as I work with secondhand electronics, I am seeing this projector becoming more and more popular. If you are looking to buy one secondhand I wouldn't expect you to pay any more than £200 at most.
Please do not be put off by the fact that this projector has a brightness of 600 lumens. It is on par with projectors of around 1500 lumens. Infact, it is far better than most projector of double the brightness (1200 lumens) the projectors that come to mind are Toshiba's, but I'll review some of them later.
I think that this projector is popular for a couple of reasons. One is that it has a max resolution of 1280 X 1024 which is superior than most new projectors and certainly beats any projector in it's price range. The second...

Toshiba TLP-S30 A Form Over Function Projector
Review of Toshiba TLP S30 by
taylora-2006
Advantages: Looks Great - Very Stylish, Compact & Very Light.
Disadvantages: Not Bright Enough At All
...be standing in front of a projector screen and having to look at your audience. So if you need to check your progress or read something, you've either got to strain your neck to view the screen. Or you can turn to view it and turn your back to the audience which is very unprofessional. With a monitor output, you can connect from your computer to the projector to your monitor. This means that whatever is on the projector is on the monitor so you can just look at that.
The projector has a good 400:1 contrast ratio. For a budget projector this pretty good, but the projector is let down by it's 800x600 maximum resolution. For most pc users this will mean changing the resolution on your computer which can be hard to readjust to and plays havoc with your desktop icons.
This projector has a nice remote that is very easy to use. And it fits the hand...

Epson EMP X5
Review of Epson EMP X5 by
LogitechUSAUK
Advantages: Good price
Disadvantages: Low resolution
...This is projector is affordable but still has some positive features. The resolution of 1024 x 768 allows clear projection with much detail. However if you are interested in High definition or multimedia i would not recommend this. However for business or education this is perfect. The 2200 ANSI Lumens allows the pictures to be very bright in well lit conditions. It was very easy to set this up and epson provided all the cables in needed. This epson website is also very helpful for driver and software updates. Even though this is not a DLP projector i think this projector meets its demands nicely and is a good price. Other products to consider would be the Optoma range since they also are very good....
