pretty average dvd player for a pretty average guy

...When I first saw this DVD player I thought that it was rather stylish looking, as it was completely black, with a matt finish, meaning that there will not be as many annoying fingerprints that cover it through average daily use. A great value DVD player! - The proline DVD1100

Advantages: Easy to install and use
Disadvantages: Lack brand name.

...I really cannot fault this product, its cheap (I got it for £29.99), its easy to install and use and it comes with a clear and concise manual. Unless you are bothered about brand names then there really is no reason to buy a more expensive DVD player. It looks great with its shiny silver finish and black button panels and the picture quality is superb thanks to the players ability to convert MPEG2 8-bit resolution to a higher bit rate to reduce the signs of digitizing. Sound quality is also high as it has an audio sampling rate of 24bit/96 KHz and a function called "Virtual surround sound" which can simulate the surround sound effect through a standard stereo TV without the need for rear speakers. Proline 2000 Third Time Lucky

Advantages: Inexpensive, Good sound and picture quality
Disadvantages: brand name has a poor track record with regards to dvd!

...Proline dvd players, it has to be said, have had a distinctly shaky start! The first model had to be recalled when it wouldn't play The Matrix. The second, sprayed gold and supposedly bug free, recently came a cropper when it wouldn't play the Gladiator features disk. Having just invested my hard earned cash in the third edition I'm hoping, for both our sakes, it'll be a case of third time lucky! Aesthetically speaking the Proline 2000 isn't the best looking bit of kit in this price bracket. Whilst Proline appear to have taken on board criticisms with the 1000 model the overall impression is still disappointing. The 2000 model is far smaller than its predecessor, ideal for a hi-fi unit, but on the downside less sturdy than it's sister. Gone too is the tacky gold finish, we now have a tacky silver finish! Proline 1000 - The BEST budget player

Advantages: General quality. Excellent value
Disadvantages: Doesn't send screen format switching signals

The Proline 1000 is already the subject of many a favourable review (both here and in magazines like Home Cinema Choice), and has picked up a couple of awards along the way. They bought it from Comet Looks: (front) The proline dvd2500 looks great as it is very slim and light. It's silver in colour and fits in well to the cabinet underneath all the other things we have there. There a few buttons on the front of the dvd player which I think spoil the look slightly as I feel that if there was not any buttons there it would take away the cheap look.
