PROTARAS - A NICE PLACE TO STAY

Advantages: lovely area, fantastic beach, nice people
Disadvantages: everything closes on 31 october!!

...I have just returned from my honeymoon in Protaras, Cyprus and we have had a fantastic time. I will review the hotel that we stayed in separately (Capo Bay Hotel). Protaras is on the East side of Cyprus, near to Ayia Napa. It is in the Paralimni/Famagusta area. Protaras is purely a holiday spot, it closes from November to March and I mean CLOSES! But more of that later on. Protaras is next to Ayia Napa, but it is family orientated and does not attract the gangs of lads that Ayia Napa does. We were there for two weeks, one of which was half-term and the place was packed with families. Protaras is a modern, purpose-built resort located 14km east of Ayia Napa. The resort stretches over 6km along the sandy-beached coastline, interspersed with rocky coves. The resort has two main focal points - Fig Tree Bay and Pernera Beach...

protaras - fantastic

Advantages: beach, bars, food, drinks, atmosphere.
Disadvantages: cockroaches

...Protaras, Cyprus is the only place I have ever been to that I feel I must visit again. It has something for absolutely everyone. The prices are similar to in England although cigarettes are a lot cheaper. There are some good deals of full English breakfasts in some of the bars, the alcohol and food are about the same price. The shopping isn't fantastic, a large range of the usual pressie shops and copied cd's and dvd's. No people harassing you when your eating to buy something or other. There are plenty of pubs which serve great food, the Malmia was brilliant for breakfast, has internet access, english beer,an outdoor and indoor seating area, a beautiful view and friendly staff. The beach is beautiful and there are plenty of things to do, for example para-gliding, banana boats, rings pulled along by a boat, scuba diving...

Tsokkos Gardens Hotel, Protaras, Cyprus

Advantages: Lovely hotel, Hot in October, Four hours from Gatwick
Disadvantages: Bit of a walk to the beach, souvenirs are completely tackky!

...This is a review of a package holiday to a specific hotel in Protaras rather than an overall review of the resort. Seven nights HB at the 4* Tsokkos Gardens Hotel, Protaras, Cyprus October, 2002 Through Goldensun - booked over the internet. We paid £844 each for two adults + £292 for one child. Our first visit to Cyprus Flight We flew with Eurocypria on the 10.10pm out of Gatwick arriving at Larnaca in the small hours. There was no in flight entertainment at all so don't forget your Walkman or a large paperback. The journey was a bit of a trial, fortunately our five year old slept on the plane which made life a bit easier. The final transfer from the airport to the hotel seemed to take ages, dropping off at about four hotels before finally arriving at the Tsokkos Gardens at about 6 am local time. The hotel…...

Penera, near Protaras

Advantages: Weather, Scenery, Fairly cheap
Disadvantages: Roads can be quite busy, Weather can get extremely hot, especially in high season

...Last year, my family and myself decided to go on holiday to Cyprus. My mum had heard good things about it, so we decided to go to Protaras. We stayed in a smaller town about 1 mile from Protaras centre, called Penera. It is a lovely town, which is quiet and relaxing. There is a long road with all the bars and restaurants on it, then from our hotel it took about 5 minutes to get to Penera Beach. The beach is clean and not as busy as the main beaches nearby, such as Fig Tree Bay, although very nice, when we went, we couldn't find any space! The weather is absolutely beautiful and very warm. It is a perfect location, because everywhere is just a taxi ride away. It doesn't take long to get around, because it's quite a small island. I'd have to warn people about the scooters, because a lot of people find this way fun to travel...

PROTARAS.CYPRUS. Scuba Diving.for Friendly Fish.

Advantages: Definately the best side of the island for Diving.
Disadvantages: None except it goes really quiet in the winter.

...Our first package holiday in Cyprus found us in a place we hadn't even heard of before. Protaras! A fair drive North from Larnaca Airport. A few miles on from Ayia Napa... A few of the holiday makers were dropped off at some of the nicest looking places, but quite a distance from the sea. We ended up right on the sea front in Protaras, in a 3 * Hotel, self catering, that was o.k., we were right by the best restaurants and pubs. The food and entertainment was excellent. Even in October the weather was fantastic! we couldn't go bare foot, the pavements and the sand burned our feet. We weren't complaining. Two whole weeks of glorious sun. At this time of year the flowers in the gardens and along the beach are at their best. After the heat of the summer sun they come into bloom with vigour. The beaches are beautifully soft...

Hotel Papantonia, Protaras, Cyprus

Advantages: A Must For Young Families With Children
Disadvantages: The Entertainment Team Could Use Some Common Sense!

...I didn't know quite where to place this review for this hotel so I thought this was as good a place as any. With a possibility of a larger audience to read. What we booked with First Choice was a Fourteen Night All Inclusive Package at the Hotel Papantonia, Protaras, Cyprus in October 2004. The cost was £679 each for two adults and one free child place - if we flew out from Stansted but we couldn't have a free child place if we flew from Gatwick. Oh well, Stansted is handy only just up the road - willing to try something different - afterall a plane is a plane doesn't matter which airport you fly from. This was our first visit to Cyprus as a family unit. We flew into Larnaca from Stansted with Thomas Cook at 09.20am arriving in Cyprus during the heat of the day and boy was it hot, a cool 31 degrees when you consider...

Sun, Sea And ... Sex With Olives

Advantages: Sandy beaches, clear blue water, sunshine.
Disadvantages: This is not the real Cyprus

...I suppose he had personality, of a sort, but in the early hours of the morning, after flight delays, the last thing most people want is an all dancing, all singing, full of life coach courier determined to do his full repertoire, no matter how anyone else felt. Ugh! This is why I prefer to be an independent traveller and find my own way about. Mind you he had one good tip - olives! "Ladees", he said in his broken English, "Geeve your man ten oleeves a day and ee won't need Viagra and you will 'ave a verrry good 'oliday." Dream Wedding Destination

Advantages: Value for money, gorgeous weather, beaches and friendly people
Disadvantages: Time flies when you're having fun

...Protaras was our first choice of wedding venue. Mainly because there was a guarantee of beautiful sunshine, a rarity in Scotland. We chose the hotel Grecian Park, situated just outside Protaras, at Cape Greco. The hotel was located on a cliff top and the views were spectacular. As we were getting married whilst staying at the hotel, we were given a free upgrade to the honeymoon suite and it was beautiful. The rooms were huge and we had 2 balconies overlooking the sea. We were well looked after at the hotel, and although weddings were popular there, you were always made to feel that you were the first to get married there. The Cypriot people love weddings and they are always the first to come up and congratulate couples who have just got wed. My husband and I had both been to Cyprus before and fell in love with the island...

BEST BEACH IN CYPRUS NOT TO MENTION THE DIVING

...Situated on the south east part of the beautiful island of Cyprus Protaras is famous for its beautiful coastline especially for its renowned beach- Fig Tree Bay, it really is beautiful, and conveniently it is 5/10 minutes from Ayia Napa! This picturesque resort is very popular with divers with a plethora of diving clubs available. The sea is sparklingly clear and clean making it a real pleasure for swimming and snorkelling as well.The resort is an attractive one with a good choice of accomodation, bars, restaurants,car/bike hire and several supermarkets. It is not an expensive resort - restaurant prices represent good value for money,there is often free wine with meals in restaurants, entry to the clubs is cheap (and rather nicely includes free drinks all night!)the cocktail prices are about £1 each (watch out these are large...
