Bon Vacances at Port Bourgenay

Advantages: Masses to do, something for everyone.
Disadvantages: Maybe a bit pricey in high season

...beyond our budget if it wasn't for the Clubcard vouchers that are worth four times their face value, but after much debate and research we plumped for Port Bourgenay, run by Pierre et Vacances, as it looked like it was in a perfect location, is close to the beach, and there seemed to be a lot to do. It cost somewhere in the region of £1000 for the accommodation (£250 in deals) for seven nights and £300 for the return ferry. ~*~ Location ~*~ We live in the south west, so a Portsmouth - Cherbourg crossing is ideal for us. We always get the earliest ferry (around 9am) so we arrive in France around 3pm which gives us plenty of time to drive to our accommodation and settle in by bed time. Or so I thought! This really wasn't the easiest place to find at all. We knew the main towns that we had to head towards: Rennes, Nantes, La...

Vacancy

Advantages: Read opp
Disadvantages: Read Opp

...Vacancy was a film I actually only saw a few months back, even though the film had been out for some time prior to this. Vacancy starts the gorgeous Kate Beckinsale, and Luke Wilson, brother of Owen Wilson. The film opened in April 2007; however it wasn't a smash hit horror film only ranking in as high as number 4. Plot: David and Amy fox, a married couple are driving back from a counselling session, when during the middle of the night their car breaks down in some random, unknown area, near the LA region. After a few minutes of arguing the couple decide that rather than staying in their car the whole night, they check into a local motel for the night, the comfort of a bed and somewhere warm soon takes over their minds. They approach a local motel, which is run by the local manager Mason (Frank Whaley), and request a room...

Vacancy

Advantages: Lovely Acting
Disadvantages: Typical Start

...Vacancy is a movie which has Luke Wilson and Kate Beckingsale as its main parts David and Amy. The film is supposed to be a horror/thriller, but when I first saw it advertised on the television I really could not take the time to go down to my local cinema and watch it, for the following reasons: - • There is a different horror movie realized every week and three quarters of them are pathetic and I don't enjoy. • Films come out on DVD so quickly that even if I wanted to watch it that much, it would be so much that I can't wait for its DVD release. • Kate Beckingsale is lovely and very beautiful, and Luke Wilson is one of my favourite actors (he and his brother Owen) but I couldn't personally see them pulling of the thriller story, especially not as a stage couple, don't ask, I just had a feeling! • The story...

A year in Provence.....

Advantages: Great views, great food, great dink, historical and artistic attractions
Disadvantages: Those Roads, Expensive generally

........if only! Just back from one of the best holidays of my life. Two weeks in Provence, and how I wish it had been a year as in Peter Mayle?s book?.. We booked our hotel, car hire and accommodation independently. We found our cottage by leafing through a Blake?s Cottages ? France book, and we were actually able to book on line, so we instantly knew which cottages were available for what weeks. However, we booked six months in advance and many of the cottages which we liked were already gone, so my advice is to book as early as you can, not that we were disappointed with our accommodation at all, quite the contrary. Our gite, which would have slept four, was a tad over £800 for two weeks, although the prices rose quickly after this, as is the norm for accommodation of this kind. We booked flights through British Airways...

Pierre et Vacances - great holidays in France

Advantages: holiday apartments, ideal for families, a lot of activities
Disadvantages: expensive extras

...This year, we spent two weeks of our summer vacation in France, in a club village of Pierre et Vacances. Pierre et Vacances is the largest company offering holiday apartments and holiday homes in France (if not in the whole of Europe) with more than 60 locations (residences, hotels and club villages). Most of the locations can be found at the French south coast (Provence, Côte d'Azur, Languedoc-Roussillon), but there is a large choice available at the Atlantic coast, in Normandy and Brittany, as well as a few locations in Paris and in the French Alps. There are studios for two, apartments for four, six or eight, and houses for 10 persons, all built in the regional style, furnished appropriately and quite cosy. There are two-, three- and four-star locations (the stars are called suns at Pierre et Vacances). Depending...

Two weeks in Provence

Advantages: Fantastic scenery, hot weather, 'interesting people'
Disadvantages: Hard work to organise, a very long way to drive

...Ok, holidays over and back to work for me... still getting into the swing of things here but thought I would write you all a nice op about my hols... I know, shock and horror, its not a Lush op! (Just for Deano :) and all the other men worn down by Lush) Are we all ready? Then I shall begin.... Bit of a different holiday for me this year, generally they consist of very little travel to a nice hot country where I can lounge around and my every need is catered for, ahhh... Not this year though, oh no, mini decides that this year is a time for exploration which is why me and three others ended up driving - yes, you heard me - actually driving to Provence. Might not seem very far on the map but cor blimey is it a long way in the car! **GETTING THERE** No choice but ferry crossing for us... being the poor miserly lot that we...

Mas de L Hermitage apartments Provence Beautiful

Advantages: great views and fab food
Disadvantages: a bit isolated

...In September I went on holiday to the Var region of Provence, France for two weeks with my partner. We found a place to stay by searching on the net and didn’t know anything about it before we went so we were pretty pleased with what we found. Our criteria were as follows:- - somewhere with a pool not shared by many people - a good base to explore the region (near cote d’azur) from - near vineyards - somewhere fairly quiet i.e. not a large apartment complex - not outrageously expensive - nice, tidy apartment The apartment The apartment itself was very nice. We had a 2 person apartment in the main building which comprised large double bedroom with en-suite, kitchenette with dining area and a balcony with seating. The apartment was adequate for us. The only minor point was as we were in the eaves...

Three trips to Provence

Advantages: sun, great food, scenery, wine
Disadvantages: cold in Winter, hard to get around on local transport

...From September of last year (2000)our student daughter had a university placement as a language assistant in a school in the small but beautiful village of Cadanet in the Luberon area of Provence. My husband, myself and our daughter, all fell deeply in love with the area. Cadanet and the neighbouring villages were each as charming and as interesting as each other. We spent two weeks last September in Provence settling our daughter into what would be her home for the duration of her stay in Cadanet. Her house had been provided along with a low rent by the local Mairie. The house was situated in one of the many ancient streets that wind around the hill topped by the ancient but ruined chateau. Caves are visible in the rocks beneath the chateau and were once habitated, especially during WW2 when they were used by the local Maquis...

Now known as Le Bistrot Pierre!

Advantages: Relaxed atmosphere, great quality food, great service
Disadvantages: Reservations sometimes necessary for lunch and always for dinner

...I have been here on two occasions, once for a date and again for a works' christmas party. The food is excellent contemporary french with a wide menu; try the carpacio of beef - no escargo or embarassingly unpronouncable menu for the anglais! Three courses without drinks cost £25 to £30 each which is excellent value for money. Servings are large, and the staff are very friendly and efficient. It is non-smoking throughout. The customers are generally a slightly older crowd, but the atmosphere is informal and you will not look out of place whether dressed up or casual. Interior styling is traditional, more seine than provencal, attractive and unpretentious. The lunch time menu represents particularly good value for money, with three courses for £15. It is located on friar gate, and is a notch above the restaraunts adjacent...

Viens In Provence

Advantages: Great Area
Disadvantages: Long Journey

...Every summer for the past 7 years my family and me have been making the trip to a little village in Provence called Viens. Viens is a peaceful little town, which is an hour?s drive from Avigon and Marseille. We are lucky enough to have relatives that live in Viens Who own a large amount of land, which has a house with 7 bedrooms and a poolside bungalow, which can sleep 10 people at one time. Viens has little to do but in the surrounding area there are lots of activity centres and in the nearest town there is a market, which is held on a weekly basis on Saturdays. I would recommend this little village as a great summer holiday getaway for anybody of all ages as it is a little jem....
