Pruning around!
Advantages: tasty, cheap, healthy
Disadvantages: Hideous!
...Having adored the majority of the Weight Watchers yoghurts so far, I was eager to sample the scrumptious-looking prune yoghurts the brand was offering, but unfortunately couldn't find them anywhere! Though, I couldn't stop that little yelp of joy that escaped from my lips when I stumbled across a pack of six in Asda for the tiny price of just £1!
On the flimsy cardboard cover that the little pots come in, there is an image of a spoon, mounted on top of several delicious-looking prunes. On this spoon there can be seen a mound of the yoghurt. It seemed that the creamy dessert was a faded brown colour (not the most appealing sight, I'll admit) with specks of prune through it. If I'm perfectly honest, I didn't think it looked too appetising, however I had every faith in Weight Watchers and decided to give them a try!
As eager as I was...

Saw with this silverline
Advantages: saws well
Disadvantages: none
...Perusing the garden tools section for a tool that I own and so could write about I came across a Silverline SW21 525 mm Pruning Saw . Now I suppose technically I do not own this but it belongs to the Butterfly conservation work party that I belong to . We store this in our garage for winter work parties clearing shrub on nature reserves.
I have used this saw several times clearing encroaching shrub.
This saw has an orange coated heavy gauge, oval steel frame this tapers to a point. The 525mm saw blade attaches to this. There is a quick release tension lever for this blade, this is attached to the flat handle part of the oval frame. The orange frame of ours has got scratched with use and has a little rust
The blade is a Swedish steel blade with many hard point teeth. This blade gives a fair cut through branches and small tree...

Get these ready for pruning time
Advantages: good blades
Disadvantages: none
...I recognize this Draper bypass pattern secateur as one my local conservation society owns for use on work parties .
Draper tools began in 1919 when Bert Draper started by selling government surplus and tools around Kingston upon Thames.
This secateur is quite bulky it has plastic orange handle grips which are spring loaded. These are quite good to grip. I think a lady with small hands might find them a bit difficult.
There is a leather wrist strap attached this is useful for wearing if you need some support also to hold them by easily and to hang them up by on a hook in the shed.
A little black thumb lock is positioned on the Secateur so you can easily lock the blades shut securely.
This secateur is good for pruning, for cutting small twigs and branches. They seem fairly well made and strong.
These blades are quite sharp...

He will prune the plastic roses
Advantages: good addition to the toy box
Disadvantages: none
...I considered buying this playmobil rose gardener for a Christmas present for a child that I know then decided to buy something different, no real reason why just thought the other toy would suit better.
This playmobil gardener is male with a check cap and moustache. He is about 3 inches tall. The gardener comes dressed in his black trousers and yellow jumper. He has a protective red apron that he can put on also he has gardening gloves to put on too.
He is provided with a pair of rose scissors. He can hold this in his playmobil hand and move his arms to prune the rose bush or cut the flowers.
The rose bush is a little taller than the gardener and come planted in some brown plastic to look like soil. There is a large rose bush and 3 v small ones that can be pushed in the soil. The soil and bushes are edged by blue looks like...

"Mmm..."
Advantages: taste, aroma, texture, price, healthy
Disadvantages: n/a
......, ?I like the prune one,the peach one, the strawberry one...!? It does my head in, she seems to be so happy with herself, and it's like, ?No dear, you're not the face of Activia, it was Nell McAndrew!?. However, this advert doesn't seem that bad now! I did a Youtube search for it, and stumbled across the adverts for the same products, from various other countries. Somebody is dancing around, bearing their not-so flat stomach in the Cadanda advert, and in the German one, somebody finds the need to pass wind every few seconds. If those are not going to turn me away from the product then I don't know what is!
So I think it's safe to say it was not the advert that made me rush out and buy it! In fact, it was Live at the Apollo! I always watch the show on BBC iPlayer, and on the latest episode of the Hammersmith Apollo event I watched, indeed...

A cut above the rest
Advantages: Quality shears that should last and last
Disadvantages: Price may put some people off
...Over the years I’ve used numerous pairs of secateurs, and sadly none have lived up to expectations. Partly my fault I know as I always think they can cut through thicker branches than they are designed for. You know the scene don't you. Secateurs in hand, half way through a stem, if I just press a bit harder I’m sure I can get through. Result blunt shears and a ragged cut. Not a good job. Most secateurs are made for cutting through whippy stems and anything tougher should be left to other tools.
About a year ago, I decided to ‘bite the bullet’ and buy myself the cream of garden tools a pair of Felco pruning shears. Perhaps, I reasoned it was just false economy to be buying inferior quality tools and maybe by paying a bit extra the rewards would justify the extra expense. Well I was right and I’m...

brokenness amongst bric-a-brac
Advantages: ° The atmosphere. The music. The characters. ° Invitation au Suicide ° Beautifull House °
Disadvantages: none
.... Some, apparently, seemed to be bear witness to some sort of rite. Another one showed an artefact of the grotesque: The THING actually being neither fresque nor sculpture, but rather combining qualities of both, in a dark manner. This photograph bore the title 'POOR ROOM'. There was also the faded drawing of a sickened maid, with one half leaning against a wall, as if for support, and with her other half laying on the ground, probably soon to be her deathbed, amongst helpless members of the clerical order.
The old man sitting in a corner of the shop shuffled his feet. I looked up and saw him stuffing his pipe. As of yet, he had not noticed my interest in this black carton-box with the thin red pin-stripe around the photography on its cover. The print on the box-set read 'VIRGIN PRUNES' & 'HERESIE'. The latter had a familiar sound, which...

Pruning Roses is Easy
Advantages: Scent and colour throughout the summer
Disadvantages: undeservedly thought of as difficult
...Roses have a reputation as difficult to prune, which is really unfair to roses, and puts people off planting such a wonderful range of colourful, scented species.
As far as pruning roses goes, the only thing you can do wrong is not to prune them! If you’re really unsure, just cut them back to about 9” off the ground in early spring. Trials conducted by rose growers showed that plants hacked back with a hedge trimmer performed just as well as those pruned carefully by the book. In fact some local authorities using roses in large quantities have resorted to quick mechanical pruning with no ill effects.
However, if you want to do it the traditional way, take the tall growths down a bit in November, just to prevent wind rocking the plants, but leave the real pruning till early spring.
First identify any dead growth, and cut it out right...

'Radio Prune Juice'
Advantages: Good for a laugh
Disadvantages: Neither one thing or the other
...Has anyone listened to Kelvin Mackenzie's Talk Sport since the transition from Talk Radio?
Well, perhaps the answer from most of you is no or talk what? Yes, that's the feeling I get when I listen to the radio equivalent of The Sun- I'm in a select club with a membership of one.
Not quite true I'm sure, but one thing Mackenzie seeks is a) listeners and b) advertising, the latter won't come without the former, hence the station's reliance on a ghastly Australian ad-campaign for prune juice, plugged incessantly day and night, as they have little else to promote. The main problem with this commercial for Kelvin, is those listeners who purchase the product and actually drink it, are probably stuck to the lavatory seat with violent diarrhoea, and therefore unable to listen!
Talk Sport is not as clear cut as it sounds, as...

How not to look like a wrinkled old prune
Advantages: Your skin will look and feel better
Disadvantages: Products can be expensive and regime time consuming, but your skin is worth it!
...enough, and that goes for women AND men too! There are numerous product ranges available for male skins as well these days and it is certainly not considered effeminate to take care of your skin. On the contrary, most women would much rather snuggle up to a man who has soft, smooth skin!
You are never too young to start, if you take care of your skin from a young age then you will have a head start on other people and you will go through life looking much younger than your peers - which believe me you will start to appreciate as soon as you pass the age of about 21!
Please look after your skin, you only get one chance to take care of it, and if you don?t you could end up looking like a wrinkled old prune!...
