...Well, had the slim for a few weeks now (my 1st ever playstation), personally, I'm a little underwhelmed by it, I've been a gamer since the nintendo game & watch days & owned @ least 1 of the current gen consoles since the Mega Drive(Genesis).
Graphically the system has the potential to wipe the floor with the 360, but this is really only going to apply to PS3 exclusives as any software house making a multi-platform game is going to be as cost effective (lazy) as possible & use the same graphics on all the games where possible(ok, they need to dumb them down for the Wii). My problem here is that I have yet to get a game for it that runs in 1080P, they all seem to be in 720P! Why???? I'm sure they are out there, but I haven't found one yet. I guess this is down to most HD tv's being HD ready rather than Full HD.
Sound-Yeah, ok...
Advantages: Easy to control Disadvantages: Can't play normal dvds
...Playstation 3 is the third home video game console produced by Sony Computer Entertainment. The PlayStation 3 competes with Microsoft's Xbox 360 and Nintendo's Wii as part of the seventh generation of video game systems. It was first released on November 11, 2006, in Japan, November 17, 2006 in North America, and March 23, 2007 in Europe and Oceania.
~~~Launch~~~
November 11, 2006: This is when it had its debut in Japan(Japan always releases stuff before other countries, which is good)
November 17, 2006: this is the second place that the Playstation 3 got released, it was released in North America.
March 23, 2007 :this is the last place that the Playstation 3 got released, it was released in Europe, Australia, the Middle East, Africa and New Zealand.(it took a lot of time to be released in the Europe...
Advantages: Stylish, good games available + lots more on the way, blu ray Disadvantages: No HD cable in the box, no rumble, limited BC
...The PlayStation 3 is Sonys third generation of home consoles. After the stellar performance of the PlayStation 2 and launch of its two rivals the Wii and Xbox 360 the PS3 has a tough act to follow. Sony are clearly not worried as according to their marketing the PS3 is a "supercomputer" and is capable of "4D" graphics, with such bold claims I had to pick one up for myself and see if it was true!
Unboxing
The first thing you will notice about the PlayStation 3 box is that it's huge! The Xbox 360 had a rather large box but this is incredible being about 1.5x as big. The box design itself is worth a mention as it is pretty neat and the front has a picture of the console floating with the wireless sixaxis controller on a black and red background. On the bottom left hand side you will see the model you have purchased which will be either...
Advantages: Graphics, playability, blu-ray player! Disadvantages: None
...I have been umming and arring over which colsole to buy, the Xbox 360 or Playstation 3. I had heard a lot of positive things about the Xbox, and I had also heard that graphics wise and gaming wise the Xbox was slightly better than the Playstation 3. However, I eventually decided to go for the Playstation 3 for several reasons.
Firstly, and probably mainly, was because of the recent decision to cancel production of the HD-DVD format (a format which the Xbox 360 is developed to play), meaning that the Blu-Ray dvd format ( a format that the Playstation 3 is developed to play) will dominate the High Definition DVD market in the near future.
Secondly, last year, the PS3's Blu-ray DVD player was voted best High Definition DVD player on the market. A DVD player that would have set you back over £250 to buy on it's own, but by buying...
Advantages: Best Entertainment System Avaliable, Region free games only Disadvantages: 4GB file limitation External Storage, Cant read NTFS
...I am going to be reviewing possibly one of the biggest console in the market currently the PS3. Firstly I have one and it is great, now let's take a look at it in detail:
LAUNCH
November 11, 2006: This is when it debut in Japan
November 17, 2006: It released in North America
March 23, 2007: Finally was released in Europe, Australia, the Middle East, Africa and New Zealand.
The UK launch was a shock for who went to it, as it was announced that everyone in the queue would receive a 46" Sony Bravia TV worth £2000.
The launches did not turn out great for Sony as initial figures were low, here are the figures below:
Worldwide: 5.59 Million - Japan 1,341,000 - North America 2,105,500 - Other 1,300,000
The launch was initially supposed to be as follows:
November 11th for Japan and November 17th for North America...
Review of Sony PlayStation 3 (PS3)
Advantages: very powerful, multifunctional console Disadvantages: No real price cut
...The PS3 Slim is the latest PlayStation 3 games console, but it is essentially the same console as before, but with slimmed down components and a new, smaller body. The key improvements in the PS3 Slim are the 120GB hard drive, up from 40GB, 60GB and 80gb in previous UK versions and making it slimmer has made it 36 per cent lighter, 33 per cent smaller and it consumes at least 34 per cent less power (for you know worry about you electricity bills).
The PS3 Slim represents a new console just in time for x-mas, one that could start to make sony some profit because up to this is due to the vast majority of PS3 sold so far (around 24 million of them) have been sold at a loss. However, new manufacturing procedures have changed this recently, and a redesigned 45nm Cell processor along with other similarly small and power efficient components...
Advantages: An amazing machine, expandable, some great features Disadvantages: Expensive (but for a reason), almost internet reliant, no browser security
...I have a rather annoying habit. I tend to collect games consoles. The problem with this is threefold. It's expensive, Buggy (she who must be obeyed, but rarely is) doesn't like the fact that the bedroom where they all live and we sleep has more lights flashing than the average xmas tree and the one that's most annoying is I rarely play any games. I can't justify them, and I'm not even going to attempt to, although I managed to state a convincing argument about having a blu-ray player at the time. I did have a PS3 from the day they first came out (I get some great freebies with my job), but due to a slight moment of clumsiness I killed the original so decided to buy another one so this review is for the now standard 40Gb version. Anyway it found it's way to Ant Towers, but the question is should it have stayed in the shop?
The PS...
Review of Sony PlayStation 3 (PS3)
Advantages: Powerful - Good Looking - Easy to setup - Loads of games Disadvantages: Quite heavy and bulky - Slow install and download times
...- then it should say the maximum resolution - select yes to keep the settings and then sort the sound settings - just select automatic - otherwise you could run into some serious problems.
You then set the clock time - the machine name - language - and other things. Its pretty simple and should give you very few problems. There is no backwards compatibilty with PS2 games - but to be fair the PS3 Games are much better.
Graphics + Sound - Depends on the game - the TV - the settings. Lets assume the game is Call of Duty 4 running on a standard HD TV at 720P - you will be amazed - it looks so lifelike - it really dazzles you how real the graphics are. You can definitely tell this is the next generation - never before has the guns sounded so realistic - never before has the sound been so crisp.
Features - The internet browser is good...
Advantages: Amazing Graphics, HDMI, Free Online Service, Blu-Ray, Stylish Design Disadvantages: Large price, Small game library, Expensive games, Slow system updates
...After owning a Nintendo Wii and an Xbox 360, I felt that I had to buy a PlayStation 3 to complete my collection. A very good choice I would say...
Pro's:
- Amazing graphical power with HDMI 1080p Full-HD Output
- Excellent online service (free)
- Smashing Blu-Ray drive
- Stylish, large design
Con's:
- Hefty price-tag*
- Not a wide selection of games**
- Pricey games***
- Slow and annoying system updates****
*The £425 price is one that can be justified by the inclusion of a Blu-Ray drive but is hefty for one that does not care about the Blu-Ray functionality
**The PS3's library of games is still very small
***The games for the PS3 are very pricey ranging from £30-50
****The system updates that are required take a long time to download and install - You must update otherwise you cannot use features such as...
...After playing Playstation 2 for years I was happy when Playstation 3 was announced to be released. However that happiness didn't last much. Why?
In my opinion the Playstation 3 (PS3) lacks not only good but also exclusive games. The console is way too expensive and it isn't compensating. Why? You have 2 other consoles that you could buy with the money you'd spend on PS3. Those are the Xbox 360 and the WII consoles.
After playing several PS3 games I've found that graphics are good but sometimes the problem isn't the console but the games that don't use PS3 full settings. One good example is Pro Evolution Soccer a football game that succeeded and achieved greatness in Playstation 2 and when the brand jumped for the 3rd generation console it didn't pay off. The graphics weren't accurate there were lots of bugs the game was slower. Anyway...
