...Well, had the slim for a few weeks now (my 1st ever playstation), personally, I'm a little underwhelmed by it, I've been a gamer since the nintendo game & watch days & owned @ least 1 of the current gen consoles since the Mega Drive(Genesis).
Graphically the system has the potential to wipe the floor with the 360, but this is really only going to apply to PS3 exclusives as any software house making a multi-platform game is going to be as cost effective (lazy) as possible & use the same graphics on all the games where possible(ok, they need to dumb them down for the Wii). My problem here is that I have yet to get a game for it that runs in 1080P, they all seem to be in 720P! Why???? I'm sure they are out there, but I haven't found one yet. I guess this is down to most HD tv's being HD ready rather than Full HD.
Sound-Yeah, ok...
Advantages: Easy to control Disadvantages: Can't play normal dvds
...Playstation 3 is the third home video game console produced by Sony Computer Entertainment. The PlayStation 3 competes with Microsoft's Xbox 360 and Nintendo's Wii as part of the seventh generation of video game systems. It was first released on November 11, 2006, in Japan, November 17, 2006 in North America, and March 23, 2007 in Europe and Oceania.
~~~Launch~~~
November 11, 2006: This is when it had its debut in Japan(Japan always releases stuff before other countries, which is good)
November 17, 2006: this is the second place that the Playstation 3 got released, it was released in North America.
March 23, 2007 :this is the last place that the Playstation 3 got released, it was released in Europe, Australia, the Middle East, Africa and New Zealand.(it took a lot of time to be released in the Europe...
Advantages: Battery Life / Charge Times ; Nice Size Disadvantages: Squeaking / Sticking
...I don't think there's that much that can be said about this specific product...it's a controller. However, I'll give an account of my experiences of this controller over the past two years.
I got two of these sixaxis controllers free with my PS3 so was able to rotate between using one and charging the other, hopefully allowing me to prolong the usability of the contollers. Unfortunately, after about a year and a half ( and many hours of use, 200+ ) the left analogue stick on both controllers began to squeak and stick. I'm pretty sure the analogue bashing involved in Beijing Olympics contributed highly to this. The main disadvantages of this for me is when I'm playing Call of Duty and I'm hiding behind an object and without realising have begun slowly moving out into the open. The second most annoying thing is at night when I'm trying...
Advantages: very powerful, multifunctional console Disadvantages: No real price cut
...The PS3 Slim is the latest PlayStation 3 games console, but it is essentially the same console as before, but with slimmed down components and a new, smaller body. The key improvements in the PS3 Slim are the 120GB hard drive, up from 40GB, 60GB and 80gb in previous UK versions and making it slimmer has made it 36 per cent lighter, 33 per cent smaller and it consumes at least 34 per cent less power (for you know worry about you electricity bills).
The PS3 Slim represents a new console just in time for x-mas, one that could start to make sony some profit because up to this is due to the vast majority of PS3 sold so far (around 24 million of them) have been sold at a loss. However, new manufacturing procedures have changed this recently, and a redesigned 45nm Cell processor along with other similarly small and power efficient components...
Advantages: Cheap Blu-Ray player, stunning visuals, free online gameplay, fun tilt controls, excellent multimedia playback. Disadvantages: Expensive, lack of PS2 game playback.
...I received the PlayStation 3 as a Christmas present and I have to say, I am in awe.
When you first take the console out of its box the PS3 looks amazingly stylish. The 40GB version that I received includes the silver trim that looks particularly pleasing against the glossy black effect on the rest of the console. Whilst it is a large piece of equipment, it still looks very attractive.
After initial setup proved to be quick and painless the XMB interface used by the PS3 springs into life, playing an orchestral startup sound that gives the impression of a truly powerful console. The XMB uses icons arranged on both a vertical and horizontal axis that can be scrolled around using the directional buttons.
I have always personally found the XMB to be very user-friendly and aesthetically pleasing, the power of the PS3 can be seen here...
Advantages: Lightweight, good battery life Disadvantages: No shock device biult in for vibrations to enhance gameplay.
...It's a good lightweight controller. It doesn't have the weight that the xbox 360 controller has, which I think is better, but is does the job. The controller also does not give you any vibrations when using it in games, which would have been nice as this adds more realism to gameplay. Another plus to the xbox 306 controller.
It's wireless and uses bluetooth to communicate with the PS3. This works perfectly. Battery life is also very good, you can get around 30 hours gameplay before you need to recharge.
The controller also has motion sensors built into it allowing you on certain games to move the controller instead of the pads to make the car in F1 move from side to side. This is very sensitive and requires patience to master. I think we have all become too used to using the gamepad to move around the screen.
Overall...
Advantages: Amazing graphics and gaming capabilities, looks great Disadvantages: quite a high price
...I don't need to write much to review the PS3 (although I will...), it can be described with one word : amazing
Ill be reviewing the 60gb version that is available in the UK. (the technical specification, from the US sony website, are at the bottom)
The console looks superb, it is quite large but has a shiny black body and a sleek silver finish, the body is curved slightly and really looks good. However the body does easily attract dust and scratches so you will need to clean it regularly. The "PS" logo on the front (above the disk drive) can be rotated so that t is the right way up whether the console is horizontal or vertical. The disk slot is much better than the old sliding trays on the PS2's, makes the console look better and probably won't break as easily! The on/off and eject buttons are touch sensitive and this takes a while...
...As a gamer, I have always enjoyed adapting to the evolution of games consoles across the years, to this day I still remember buying my first playstation console which not only boosted my popularity at school but provided me with many hours of fun on the old lara croft, and tekken labels, playstation 2 was to follow this piece of technology with even better graphics, better games and an improved experience from that of the past. Attending university in the summer of 2007 I was alerted to the pending release of playstation 3, eager to show my support as a consumer as well as eager to play some of the much newer and even better titles, I purchased one and it did indeed help to pass boundless hours away on the range of famous titles such as pro evolution soccer and call of duty, however the blu-ray drive eventually broke after a year, and my...
Advantages: blu-ray player, HD player & console in one! Disadvantages: cost
...Having tried the xbox 360 for 5 months, finding it cr*p & getting my money back-due to numerous faults- I bought a ps3....
If the wii hadn't been out of stock everywhere within 35 miles of where I live, I would have got that- merely because I wanted a new console, I needed the excitement, and the ps3 was way out of my budget.
Thank the lords the wii was out of stock!
WOW! Yes, I was super excited- we hate to be out of the technology loop when it comes to consoles- and although I was in denial- I really wanted a ps3 deep down- I was just angry at the price being too high for me- but having a lovely mum- whom got it on M&S credit (I'm paying for it though), I got it anyway.
Getting the ps3 from m&s has one great advantage- the package might be limited- but- it comes with a two year warrenty. Always helpful.
It was in a box...
Advantages: Blu-Ray player makes it worth the money alone, Great simple usability. Disadvantages: Still a bit pricey for some!
...Having tentatively purchased a Sony Playstation 3: my biggest concern was the hefty price tag, I now cannot sing its praises enough!
I had been considering buying one since they first appeared on the market. I have never been a fan of XBOX and some friends of mine were giving it mixed reviews so had already decided to wait for the PS3. I had always been put off by the price - £450 is a lot of money for a games console I feel. But my holiday to Hong Kong totally changed my mind.....
I had gone on holiday to Hong Kong without a thought of spending any time looking at PS3s as I was on holiday and the other half would kill me if I spent ages gawping at it. During a stop off in one of the electronics shops, I saw one up and running. Motorstorm was running in the shop and it was stunning to look at! Fantastic graphical perfromance...
