...Well, had the slim for a few weeks now (my 1st ever playstation), personally, I'm a little underwhelmed by it, I've been a gamer since the nintendo game & watch days & owned @ least 1 of the current gen consoles since the Mega Drive(Genesis).
Graphically the system has the potential to wipe the floor with the 360, but this is really only going to apply to PS3 exclusives as any software house making a multi-platform game is going to be as cost effective (lazy) as possible & use the same graphics on all the games where possible(ok, they need to dumb them down for the Wii). My problem here is that I have yet to get a game for it that runs in 1080P, they all seem to be in 720P! Why???? I'm sure they are out there, but I haven't found one yet. I guess this is down to most HD tv's being HD ready rather than Full HD.
Sound-Yeah, ok...
Advantages: very powerful, multifunctional console Disadvantages: No real price cut
...The PS3 Slim is the latest PlayStation 3 games console, but it is essentially the same console as before, but with slimmed down components and a new, smaller body. The key improvements in the PS3 Slim are the 120GB hard drive, up from 40GB, 60GB and 80gb in previous UK versions and making it slimmer has made it 36 per cent lighter, 33 per cent smaller and it consumes at least 34 per cent less power (for you know worry about you electricity bills).
The PS3 Slim represents a new console just in time for x-mas, one that could start to make sony some profit because up to this is due to the vast majority of PS3 sold so far (around 24 million of them) have been sold at a loss. However, new manufacturing procedures have changed this recently, and a redesigned 45nm Cell processor along with other similarly small and power efficient components...
Advantages: Best Entertainment System Avaliable, Region free games only Disadvantages: 4GB file limitation External Storage, Cant read NTFS
...I am going to be reviewing possibly one of the biggest console in the market currently the PS3. Firstly I have one and it is great, now let's take a look at it in detail:
LAUNCH
November 11, 2006: This is when it debut in Japan
November 17, 2006: It released in North America
March 23, 2007: Finally was released in Europe, Australia, the Middle East, Africa and New Zealand.
The UK launch was a shock for who went to it, as it was announced that everyone in the queue would receive a 46" Sony Bravia TV worth £2000.
The launches did not turn out great for Sony as initial figures were low, here are the figures below:
Worldwide: 5.59 Million - Japan 1,341,000 - North America 2,105,500 - Other 1,300,000
The launch was initially supposed to be as follows:
November 11th for Japan and November 17th for North America...

Review of Sony PlayStation 3 (PS3)
Advantages: Useful, Multimedia Functions, Entertaining, Internet Disadvantages: Does have the odd problems mostly HDMI issues.
...The Sony Playstation 3 is a great console, due to the fact it has alot exciting new features from the previous sucessors. One of the main reasons the PS3 has done well in the war against other consoles is that the games available on the this platform are much vast. The also have a quite alot of games which are exlusive to PS3. Some buyers only buy the ps3 because a certain game is availiable on this platform. Thats one of the main purposes i purchased the ps3 because i liked previous games which were on the previous console.
I have played all rival consoles and compared to the xbox i would have to say the graphics look better on the PS3. I tested playing the same game on HDTV at 1080p even though the game was out putting at 720p. The contrast of colours and the detail stood out more on the PS3.
The XMB( Xross Media Bar) developed...
Advantages: Stylish, good games available + lots more on the way, blu ray Disadvantages: No HD cable in the box, no rumble, limited BC
...The PlayStation 3 is Sonys third generation of home consoles. After the stellar performance of the PlayStation 2 and launch of its two rivals the Wii and Xbox 360 the PS3 has a tough act to follow. Sony are clearly not worried as according to their marketing the PS3 is a "supercomputer" and is capable of "4D" graphics, with such bold claims I had to pick one up for myself and see if it was true!
Unboxing
The first thing you will notice about the PlayStation 3 box is that it's huge! The Xbox 360 had a rather large box but this is incredible being about 1.5x as big. The box design itself is worth a mention as it is pretty neat and the front has a picture of the console floating with the wireless sixaxis controller on a black and red background. On the bottom left hand side you will see the model you have purchased which will be either...
Advantages: Easy to control Disadvantages: Can't play normal dvds
...Playstation 3 is the third home video game console produced by Sony Computer Entertainment. The PlayStation 3 competes with Microsoft's Xbox 360 and Nintendo's Wii as part of the seventh generation of video game systems. It was first released on November 11, 2006, in Japan, November 17, 2006 in North America, and March 23, 2007 in Europe and Oceania.
~~~Launch~~~
November 11, 2006: This is when it had its debut in Japan(Japan always releases stuff before other countries, which is good)
November 17, 2006: this is the second place that the Playstation 3 got released, it was released in North America.
March 23, 2007 :this is the last place that the Playstation 3 got released, it was released in Europe, Australia, the Middle East, Africa and New Zealand.(it took a lot of time to be released in the Europe...
Advantages: An amazing machine, expandable, some great features Disadvantages: Expensive (but for a reason), almost internet reliant, no browser security
...I have a rather annoying habit. I tend to collect games consoles. The problem with this is threefold. It's expensive, Buggy (she who must be obeyed, but rarely is) doesn't like the fact that the bedroom where they all live and we sleep has more lights flashing than the average xmas tree and the one that's most annoying is I rarely play any games. I can't justify them, and I'm not even going to attempt to, although I managed to state a convincing argument about having a blu-ray player at the time. I did have a PS3 from the day they first came out (I get some great freebies with my job), but due to a slight moment of clumsiness I killed the original so decided to buy another one so this review is for the now standard 40Gb version. Anyway it found it's way to Ant Towers, but the question is should it have stayed in the shop?
The PS...
Review of Sony PlayStation 3 (PS3)
Advantages: Graphics, playability, blu-ray player! Disadvantages: None
...I have been umming and arring over which colsole to buy, the Xbox 360 or Playstation 3. I had heard a lot of positive things about the Xbox, and I had also heard that graphics wise and gaming wise the Xbox was slightly better than the Playstation 3. However, I eventually decided to go for the Playstation 3 for several reasons.
Firstly, and probably mainly, was because of the recent decision to cancel production of the HD-DVD format (a format which the Xbox 360 is developed to play), meaning that the Blu-Ray dvd format ( a format that the Playstation 3 is developed to play) will dominate the High Definition DVD market in the near future.
Secondly, last year, the PS3's Blu-ray DVD player was voted best High Definition DVD player on the market. A DVD player that would have set you back over £250 to buy on it's own, but by buying...
Advantages: HD, free controller, built in blu-ray and wi-fi, free online play Disadvantages: doesnt play PS2 games
...The Sony Playstation 3 is really amazing! Don't believe what other people say about how cheap an xbox 360 is compared to a PS3. With the xbox, you have to buy almost everything as extras, for example, the HD-DVD drive is an 'optional extra' costing you £110, and you have to BUY a wireless controller AND charger! And the biggest disadvantage of all is that is isnt even HD on the normal models!
The PS3 comes free with a wireless controller, a built in blu-ray drive, built in Wi-Fi (xbox extra plug in thing) and it's free to go online and play your multiplayer games. Every PS3 console has a HDMI socket on the back for you to plug into a HD TV, and if you dont have wireless internet at your house you can plug your PS3 into the internet with a standard network cable!
The PS3 games have got amazing graphics. Everything looks so...
Advantages: Media capabilities, Huge Potential, Amazing Operating System, In-built wifi, Blu Ray Disadvantages: Playstation network needs improving, Needs more extra Features, Games, Price
...I purchased the PS3 on launch day. The amount of games for the console at launch was minimum, that was expected but I did expect a few blockbuster titles to go with the launch.
The PS3 console uses Bluetooth for all its controllers and has in-built wifi, which is very handy and is a lot better than buying accessories to enable the wifi like its rivals. The bluetooth system for the controllers is excellent, it has a great range and never struggles with any disconnection problems.
The PS3 as a system starts up and loads you straight up into its Xross media bar or 'XMB' for short. The XMB is, in my opinion, an excellent way of navigating around the PS3 and with recent system updates - it has made it a joy to use. The sections are clearly labelled (Music,Video,Games,Internet) and not to hard to figure out. Although some of features...
