...Well, had the slim for a few weeks now (my 1st ever playstation), personally, I'm a little underwhelmed by it, I've been a gamer since the nintendo game & watch days & owned @ least 1 of the current gen consoles since the Mega Drive(Genesis).
Graphically the system has the potential to wipe the floor with the 360, but this is really only going to apply to PS3 exclusives as any software house making a multi-platform game is going to be as cost effective (lazy) as possible & use the same graphics on all the games where possible(ok, they need to dumb them down for the Wii). My problem here is that I have yet to get a game for it that runs in 1080P, they all seem to be in 720P! Why???? I'm sure they are out there, but I haven't found one yet. I guess this is down to most HD tv's being HD ready rather than Full HD.
Sound-Yeah, ok...
...I have recently sold my 60GB PS3 'Phat' and replaced it with a 250GB Slim model and so far I couldn't be happier with it.
~~~ Games ~~~
For 99% of people this will be the key area that the console has to perform in - and it does. I've played a wide variety of games on it since I bought it including FIFA, Call of Duty, Assassins Creed 2 and various demos. All of these play very smoothly and the graphics are of a very good high-definition quality.
I can see no difference between the performance of the original 'Phat' models and the 'Slim' model.
~~~ Blu-Ray Player ~~~
So far the only Blu-Ray movie I have watched on the 'Slim' is Transformers 2. I have watched parts of it on both a stand-alone Blu-Ray player and on the original PS3 and again I can see no difference.
The picture quality is very bright...
Advantages: Battery Life / Charge Times ; Nice Size Disadvantages: Squeaking / Sticking
...I don't think there's that much that can be said about this specific product...it's a controller. However, I'll give an account of my experiences of this controller over the past two years.
I got two of these sixaxis controllers free with my PS3 so was able to rotate between using one and charging the other, hopefully allowing me to prolong the usability of the contollers. Unfortunately, after about a year and a half ( and many hours of use, 200+ ) the left analogue stick on both controllers began to squeak and stick. I'm pretty sure the analogue bashing involved in Beijing Olympics contributed highly to this. The main disadvantages of this for me is when I'm playing Call of Duty and I'm hiding behind an object and without realising have begun slowly moving out into the open. The second most annoying thing is at night when I'm trying...
Advantages: Brilliant graphics, plays multi-media formats Disadvantages: No HDMI cable included, not compatible with Playstation 2 games
...The Playstation 3 (PS3), Sony's 3rd generation of console is a complete triumph. Whether it's playing games, listening to music, watching movies or surfing the net the PS3 has you covered. The system is very easy to set up and can be used with high definition tv's (HDMI cable needed-sold separately), the games have stunning graphics and brilliant sound everything one would want from a next generation console. The new slim version although not as aesthetically pleasing as the previous version has a much larger hard drive option (either 120GB or 250GB). As for movies the playstation 3 will play blu-ray movies (the standard media format for the games) as well as DVD's so no need to replace that established collection. One drawback is that Playstation 2 games although playable on some of the earlier PS3's are not compatible with the new slim...
Advantages: very powerful, multifunctional console Disadvantages: No real price cut
...The PS3 Slim is the latest PlayStation 3 games console, but it is essentially the same console as before, but with slimmed down components and a new, smaller body. The key improvements in the PS3 Slim are the 120GB hard drive, up from 40GB, 60GB and 80gb in previous UK versions and making it slimmer has made it 36 per cent lighter, 33 per cent smaller and it consumes at least 34 per cent less power (for you know worry about you electricity bills).
The PS3 Slim represents a new console just in time for x-mas, one that could start to make sony some profit because up to this is due to the vast majority of PS3 sold so far (around 24 million of them) have been sold at a loss. However, new manufacturing procedures have changed this recently, and a redesigned 45nm Cell processor along with other similarly small and power efficient components...
Advantages: WIRELESS; SIMPLE TO USE Disadvantages: GAME DEVELOPERS NOT MAKING MOST OF SIXAXIS
...I bought a Playstation 3 around 4 months ago and, so far I can't fault the SIXAXIS controller for what I use it for.
They've bascally kept the original Playstation 2 controller but made it wireless and added the SIXAXIS system to it.
This is a motion sensor that is built in to the controller which senses which way you are leaning the controller and moves as you do but to be honest I found this pretty pointless due to not needing it at all, it just makes the game so much harder.
I've tried using it with a few games and with some it's better than others but I still stick to the original normal controls as I find them a lot easier to use.
So quite frankly my opinion is, I'm glad they've kept the controller the same as from the PS2 but thought that the addition of the SIXAXIS system was a bit of a waste of time unless the game...
Advantages: Brilliant audio quality, graphics the best in any media device, ease of use, in build Wi-Fi Disadvantages: Not much change from the original PS3
...Sony's new addition to the Playstation family is the Playstation 3 slim. It is in many accounts a brilliant home entertainment and media device. It has been pushed away from the gaming device category and is now in the realms of the media hub and home entertainment device.
Gaming.
This is definitely the main focus of the PS3, although Sony spent millions marketing the device as more than just a gaming experience, most people will still buy this product with gaming as there primary function. The visuals on this device are a beauty and a brilliant experience, blue ray gives you the best and most technically enhanced gaming experience available on the market today. Amazingly sharp picture quality will never sees to amaze you. Open mouthed moments are to be inspected whilst you whisk your way through dangerous and breathe taking...
Advantages: +Lightweight +Great battery life +Motion-sensing Disadvantages: -No rumble
...The SixAxis controller is the standard controller for the PS3 at the moment. In the east (and possibly America) a new version has been released which has a rumble feature. This product will be out in the UK around about springtime. The current model lacks rumble capabilities. This may seem a bad thing, but you really do get used to it, I don't miss rumble at all now although I might buy the dualshock3 (the rumble version) when it comes out in the spring, as it's bound to add a bit to the experience of playing a game, but its nothing major. The lack of rumble is the ONLY possible negative I can think of for the sixaxis, although as it doesn’t affect me much I don’t really see it as a negative (although some might)
The controller uses bluetooth to connect to the ps3, you plug it into the ps3 by the lead, press a button in...
Advantages: Lightweight, good battery life Disadvantages: No shock device biult in for vibrations to enhance gameplay.
...It's a good lightweight controller. It doesn't have the weight that the xbox 360 controller has, which I think is better, but is does the job. The controller also does not give you any vibrations when using it in games, which would have been nice as this adds more realism to gameplay. Another plus to the xbox 306 controller.
It's wireless and uses bluetooth to communicate with the PS3. This works perfectly. Battery life is also very good, you can get around 30 hours gameplay before you need to recharge.
The controller also has motion sensors built into it allowing you on certain games to move the controller instead of the pads to make the car in F1 move from side to side. This is very sensitive and requires patience to master. I think we have all become too used to using the gamepad to move around the screen.
Overall...
Advantages: Great Design Disadvantages: No Dual Shock
...This is a great controller jus like the classic ps1/ps2 the design stayed the same. This is the perfect controller i can not say anything about the slick design.
As you may know this controller is wireless so you may use it from newere in the room so no messy
wires hanging around. And the batttery lasts very long i dont have to charge it very often but i dont play hours every day either.
Only bad this about this controller is that unlike the ps1/ps2 controllers this does not have dual shock so no rumble :(.This is because sony could not get rights for the technology. Sony what happened?
Well good news this controller is being released again next year as Dual Shock 3 is comming out. So if you can wait i strongly urge you wait for it to come out as it is a great feature. The feeling for the game is lost without dual shock. Need...
