...Following on from reviewing the Peak District Pub Walks book I decided to dip into one of his other books again. This one uses the city as its base and gives beer fans a guide to walking around the nation's capital. London Pub Walks is produced by CAMRA (CAMpaign for Real Ale) and can be purchased via the CAMRA website (www.camra.org.uk) or from bookshops (either online or on the high street). Written by Bob Steel, beer enthusiast and author, London Pub Walks is a pocket-sized guide to some of the nicest and historic pubs in London.
The book covers the whole of the city and allows you to tour sections of the city, while always being within easy reach of a decent pint of Real Ale. It includes 30 walks around over 180 pubs. The walks are easy and include all the necessary information you need to enjoy your visit, including which...
Advantages: Reasonably-priced, occasionally cheap Disadvantages: You might find me in one of them
..., and I looked like part of a dreadful vivisectional experiment.
I now have a few precious hours with nothing to do, so you, dear reader, will pay the price of the school's lack of understanding of dysfunctional families.
I moved to Chester on January 20th 2007, as I had worked here for a year and had to commute by train to and from Liverpool every day, which took a daily 2 hours from my schedule. I have moved once while I have been here - closer to town, which gives me a great advantage when it comes to reviewing the city's' pubs.
As mentioned, prior to Chester, I lived in Liverpool for 7 years which has a fantastic nightlife and, as Chester is a much smaller city, it would be unfair to compare the respective nightlife's of the two. For a small city (indeed Chester isn't even in the 50 most populous cities in the UK), there are lots...

Review of Chester Pubs
Advantages: large garden, BBQ's held on Sunday, cheap drinks, friendly atmosphere Disadvantages: A little out of town
...The Cricketers Pub is located in the village of River, just outside Dover. It is located right next door to Crabble Cricket, Football and Rugby Grounds.
I like the Cricketers pub as it certainly has a village feel to it, and you tend to get a good crowd of people in here because it is not in the main town, and doesnt attract young drunks!
The Pub
The bar inside is fairly large with plenty of seating. There is a large plasma TV which shows various sporting events such as football, tennis and rugby games. There is a lower level to the bar area, and in here are a couple of gaming machines as well as pool tables. In one corner there is also a dart board. To the left of the pool tables, is a small corridor which leads out to the male and female toilets. If you walk past the toilets, you will find yourself in the pub garden. There is...
Advantages: Has been a lot of drinking involved.. Disadvantages: Sometimes get a hangover.
...I have just found this subject in the Ciao café and thought it is such an apt subject for me to do !
As a few of you know I like a pint or three and since I turned 18 I have visited more pubs than I can ever possibly remember, however I have had some favourites in the last 14 years and will take you some of them, where they are etc?
10.The haystack pub, Canvey island high street.
This is situated at the very start of the high street and is very well known. This pub has been on the island since the early 1920's with various refits, various names.
Now this is mainly known as a youngsters pub with modern music as rap, hip hop, and dance tunes.
The drinks are quite expensive for canvey for wine beer and alcopops. The soft drinks are almost as expensive but this pub has some good history and good food during the day.
9.The...

Review of My ten best pubs
Advantages: Good selection, meal deal, good service Disadvantages: This Branch needs a kick up the backside.
...Three Blackbirds Inn
My husband and I decided to take the children out to lunch this Sunday as a treat and we decided to go to The Three Blackbirds Inn near us in Cwmbran for a nice relaxing change. Located in Lantarnam in Cwmbran it is set in a lovely quiet location, which is easily accessible from the main road yet quiet and secluded.
The Company.
-------------------------------------
The restaurant I have chosen to review is located in Llantarnam, Cwmbran in South Wales and is part of the Good Pub Restaurants group. This group offers Pub restaurants across the country with a standard menu that is family orientated. They are usually found in conjunction with the Wacky Warehouse play area which the children can go in an play as well, although they have now branched out to include the following chin link restaurants:-

Review of Good Pub Restaurants
Advantages: Good Atmosphere, Good Entertainment, Good Food Disadvantages: Very Busy At Times
...I decided that for my 400th Ciao review that I would write a review on my local Pub, The Sherwood in Sheffield. I have reviewed several Pubs during my days on Ciao and members with a good memory may even recall that I chose the subject of my "local" for my 300th review earlier this year. Moving house frequently however means that I have an ever-changing local Pub, although to be fair the Pub that I am reviewing here is one that I have frequented regularly over the years, long before I decided to live nearby.
As a Child I grew up in this area and my Parents have always lived around here. I remember that we used to play on the wasteland that this Pub now stands and even recall the moment when this land of "ours" was fenced off and the bulldozers moved in. Little did I realise then that just a few years later I would be drinking at that...
Advantages: Beautiful gardens and great food. Disadvantages: Expensive, not a lot of room in side
... THE PLOUGH INN
GALGATE
Inside the pub there are several small rooms - including a games room with pool, games and darts. It is all very traditional - no need for any 'distressed' decorating her, you are really in an old English pub. The only downside is that if you do eat inside, due to the size the tables are quite close together.
The garden is of the Plough is really beautiful.
The owner has spent a lot of time ( and money) landscaping it and there are water features, planters and decorative features everywhere - it is a really lovely place to stop on a summers day for a drink or a meal.
Between Easter and October there is a 12M x 6M marquee that is available for hire for special events - it is also a handy place to eat if the rain starts.
The Plough is very poplular with students as they accept...
Advantages: Great Food at a Great Price Disadvantages: None
...THE SQUIRREL PUB AND CARVERY, BLACKPOOL
The Squirrel is a very popular pub restaurant on Bispham Road in Blackpool. To get to the pub by car you leave the M55 motorway at junction three and follow the A583 road towards Blackpool Town Centre. The A587 is on the right as you go into town and you need to turn right towards the zoo, and you can follow brown elephant signs until you get to Stanley Park. Once near the zoo follow the A587 past Blackpool Victoria Hospital towards Bispham and Cleveleys. You reach the pub on your left after passing B and Q on the right. There is ample car parking once you are at The Squirrel.
The pub is about half a mile north of Layton Railway Station which is on the Blackpool North Line. The best bus route to get there from Blackpool Town Centre is route number 11.
The Squirrel is owned by...
Advantages: Meet people, have fun Disadvantages: Long hours, if it goes wrong it can affect your whole life
...Oooh this could be a very interesting thing to write!
Let me tell you a few things so you can see what perspective I'm writing from.
My partner of 2 years lives and works in his pub which he runs with his partner. A lot goes on there and i've seen it all both from a personal perspective and the perspective of actually working there too.
I will try not to be bias and not put you off because i have personal resentments which this advice may reflect upon.
Pubs are available now to anyone who wants one. Brewery's who have owned managed houses (pubs with managers rather than traditional landlords) are slowly realising that people don't like managers in their faces all the time and are selling the leases of their pubs for very very cheap. For those who don't know, many pubs are owned by a brewery or some sort of property owner...
Advantages: Warm, friendly, great atmosphere. Disadvantages: We could not stay longer.
...Having travelled extensively in Europe one of the places we have never visited is Ireland, so we went last weekend.
We flew to Shannon and hired a car for the four days. The weather was atrocious, and didn't get much better all the time we where there.
Shannon as my brother told me is just an estate of houses, due mainly to the airport being used for the Trans Atlantic flights, but as we drove through and around Shannon we could not seem to find a pub.
Having booked into The Oak Wood Hotel in Shannon, which was lovely we set out to explore in the rain. The road had two choices, Galway or Limerick we chose the Galway route.
We came across a sign for Ennis, so took that and as we drove through the town along the main road, a pub sign took our eye so we found a parking space, a small multi storey is just 4 shops away and went in...
