Prague Castle

Advantages: Great view
Disadvantages: Waste of money

...As some of you will know from my other review I visited Prague recently. I didn't include Prague Castle in that review because it seemed like the review was already really long but as it is one of the main attractions. This review is going to be really mixed because there is so much to Prague castle. It's really like going to a little village because there is so much to the castle and the area around it and if you want to see it all then you'll need to spend the entire day there. -Tickets- I bought a Prague Card and got the short tour free on that but if you don't have a prague card the prices are: Short Tour- 250 crowns (£9.22) Long Tour-350 Crowns (£12.90) You can also pay to get into individual attractions and discounts are available, as well as family tickets. (Please not that the currency in Prague is changing so...

Hotel In prague

Advantages: Reasonably cheap accomodation
Disadvantages: No in house Restaurant, No Room Service

...The accomodation Upon checking in to the accomodation I was asked for my Passport, so they could check the details of the booking I had made under my own name. I guess they use this procedure against breakages and in case of theft, trouble etc. I have not known this to be a feature in accomodation in England. This company procedure did not bother me whatsoever. I travelled alone to this accomodation, having booked a small room, however when I was shown my room I am sure it would have been suitable for two people. As I was staying in prague for two nights on a leisurely short city break, this did not particularly bother me too much regarding the standard of the facilities. When I was shown my room there were two single Bed's situated side-by-side. The Bed's to my eyes looked nineteen eightees style old fashioned beds...

Czech out the Hilton Prague!

Advantages: A luxurious way to enjoy this beautiful city!
Disadvantages: It's not exactly centrally located. A minor irritation if you're a tourist.

...It's rare, I know. My young son, Josh (Bless 'im), who is now 4 years old doesn't feature in the body of this review since he stayed with his Grandmother whilst I treated Amanda to a St Valentine's / pre-40th birthday trip to Prague. Had the weather been warmer, I reckon that he would actually have loved it, since Prague actually has quite a lot on offer for kids, even if it's billed as a fairly adult location. We spent two nights there, stayed at the Hilton, and concentrated on more grown-up things. I'm certainly not saying that we hired the prostitutes that, apparently, are two-a-penny. I'm just saying that we didn't watch a single episode of "Scooby Doo" during our very pleasant stay. And, frankly, that was something of a relief (with full apologies to Scooby, Scrappy and the rest of the litter). So - down to the review proper...

Lord take me to Heaven. Take me to the Mandarin Oriental Prague.

Advantages: Luxury hotel. Brilliant food. Excellent service. Great location. Value for Money!
Disadvantages: Having to go home!

...I had visited Prague before, however this was for a lads holiday that only required us to get a bed for a night with all the drinking and high jinx that would be taking place, so when I returned with my partner I decided I required somewhere much more classy than a cheap apartment. This is where my love for Mandarin Oriental or ?MO? as it is fondly known by it?s guests comes into play. After reviewing trip advisor I discovered that there was a very good selection of five star properties within Prague and lone behold there on the list was ?Mandarin Oriental Prague?. You are probably wondering at this point what is so special about MO and why am I raving on so early in the review. Well please stick around and read on and you will hopefully begin to see why my love affair with Mandarin Oriental is as strong today as it has been for many...

Czech Prague Out

Advantages: History, Architecture and Culture
Disadvantages: Lots of walking, steep hills and cobbled streets

...) interspersed with tempting restaurants, shops, bars, cafes, and pubs. Overlooking the square is the 15th century Town Hall clock. Every hour on the hour you will be treated to an excellent morality play as 12 tiny saints appear from trap doors to show us the error of our ways, while beneath them Greed, Death and Vanity represent the evils we are subjected to daily ? not to be missed. To the North of the old Town is Josefov, Prague's Jewish ghetto, which was originally surrounded by a wall confining some 375,000 Jews. Over 80,000 were killed during the Holocaust at Terezin and Auschwitz. A unique small and ancient cemetery with over 12,000 tombstones marks the graves of approximately 100,000 people. A harrowing thought. To the south is Nové Mesto, the New Town, houses Václavské námestí (Wenceslas Square) with the giant memorial of Prince...

Pausing in Prague

Advantages: Spacious, good prices in restaurants, interesting shops, very clean, good loos
Disadvantages: Not much choice of restaurant, not much seating, no English books or papers, nothing for small children

...Twice in September this year we had to fly to and from Prague, using Czech Airlines between the UK and Cyprus. The first time we had a seven hour stopover, and had considered going out to see the city itself; however when we arrived, four things mitigated against this: 1) It was only 5.30am, and we were told that nothing much would open till 9.30 or later 2) Our hand luggage was fairly heavy, and we couldn't find anywhere to leave it 3) We were all incredibly tired 4) It was apparently three degrees Celcius outside! So having decided not to go out, we were faced with several hours in the airport. Our needs were not great. We wanted to be able to sit quietly and take it in turns to read or nap; we wanted toilets; we also wanted a restaurant of some sort with coffee (vital!) and perhaps some fruit or bread rolls...

Review of Prague Airport

Whistle stop Prague experience

Advantages: Cheap, cheerful, romantic
Disadvantages: Can be very busy, beware of rip off merchants

...Before I start this review I must stress that this is not going to be an in depth review that lists all the sights to see in detail along with the history etc. This info can be found in any tourist information centre in Prague, or in any guide book or on numerous websites. I have written this review to be a taster of what Prague has to offer, and my first time experience in this wonderful city. The only way to get a feel for Prague is to get out there and discover it for yourself. My experience **************** Getting there ************** Living in Norfolk meant that the most convenient airport for my girlfriend and I was Stanstead, a one and a half hour drive (abiding by all speed limits and in moderate traffic) away. Out of all UK airports I have travelled from I must say that Stanstead was the easiest (it is close...

Capital Pub guide!

Advantages: Compact, well written and informative.
Disadvantages: Absolutely none at all!

...Following on from reviewing the Peak District Pub Walks book I decided to dip into one of his other books again. This one uses the city as its base and gives beer fans a guide to walking around the nation's capital. London Pub Walks is produced by CAMRA (CAMpaign for Real Ale) and can be purchased via the CAMRA website (www.camra.org.uk) or from bookshops (either online or on the high street). Written by Bob Steel, beer enthusiast and author, London Pub Walks is a pocket-sized guide to some of the nicest and historic pubs in London. The book covers the whole of the city and allows you to tour sections of the city, while always being within easy reach of a decent pint of Real Ale. It includes 30 walks around over 180 pubs. The walks are easy and include all the necessary information you need to enjoy your visit, including which...

Lovely Prague

Advantages: Possible on a small budget, Fascinating, Beautiful
Disadvantages: Sometimes hard to get around

...My husband and I took advantage of a very inexpensive deal this past weekend, and finally got to Prague. With all the things we'd heard about it, we were a bit worried that we might be disappointed, but this wasn't the case in the least. Since their "velvet revolution", Prague has taken great pride in improving their city, to make it enjoyable for tourists, while keeping its old-world charm. The architecture ranges anywhere from Gothic to Bauhause and everything in between, and then some. Fortunately, during the Communist regime the ugly mass housing projects were built on the outskirts of the city, leaving the central areas unscathed. There are several places in Prague that any short-term tourist should make a point to visit. First of all would be the old section of the town. There you'll find winding streets, charming...

Beautiful Prague

Advantages: Beautiful baroque architecture,inexpensive,fine culture.
Disadvantages: presence of touts

...The beautiful, baroque, city of a hundred spires,Prague,is a gem. Since the "velvet revolution" that saw the overthrow of the Communist regime, this lovely city has become a major tourist destination, and its not hard to figure out why! The city provides something for everyone ! There is conventional and experiental theatre, opera, classical and folk music, and good dining out. Then there are the pubs and the marvellous Czech beers such as Budvar,Pilsner Urquell and Radegast, which rank among the finest lagers in the world For starters a bit of geography. The Vltava river snakes its way through the city.On the left hand side of the river are the little quarter (Mala Strana) and the site of the castle (Hradcany) whilst on the right are the old town (Stare Mesto) ,the new town (Nove Mesto) and the Jewish quarter (Josefov). Hradcany Castle...
