...If you are of the opinion, (which I was I must admit), that Majorca was a place frequented by only the young and noisy then think again. On the northern part of the island is a resort called Puerto Pollensa which bears no resemblance to the lively southern part of the island. It is heaven on earth. A lovely, peaceful resort which has not seen that much development and retains a very spanish feel to it. Set on a beautiful long, white, sandy beach with the clear blue water on one side and mountains on the other, it truly gives a diferent perspective to Majorca. No discos, just friendly little restaurants, bars and cafes. Ideal for families with younger children and for couples looking for a romantic spot.!! 2 STAR HOTEL THAT SHOULD BE FAR MORE

Advantages: Excellent value for money and extremely clean and tidy
Disadvantages: Slightly to far to be able to walk to city centre

Review of Hotel Santa Lucia, Santiago de Compostela

Skiing/Snowboarding from Santiago.

Advantages: different unspoiled powder relaxed
Disadvantages: mid-priced

...About 2 hours east of Santiago are the ski resorts of La Parva, El Colorado and Valle Nevado. All 3 resorts are connected (you can ski between them if you have the right pass) and there are plenty of runs and some world-class off-piste. You can make the trip up and down from Santiago in a day but its worth taking two (at least) if you can ski or snowboard. As well as the resorts, there is a small town called Farrellones located next to the resort of El Colorado. You can walk from Farrellones to the lowest lift at el colorado, from where the lift attendants will let you on if you promise to buy a lift pass when you get off - at the resort proper. Be warned though - it's a button lift. You can hire ski and snowboard equipment at any of the resorts, but neither equipment hire nor lift passes come cheap. Ski-ing is very much for the elite...

Loro Parque - Puerto de la Cruz

Advantages: Amazing wildlife and shows
Disadvantages: Long journey depending on where your staying

...Loro Parque is probably the best attraction on the Canary Island of Tenerife. Although the journey via coach from Puerto de Santiago took a tiring 3 and a bit hours to Puerto de la Cruz, it was well worth it. I would strongly recommend watching all of the shows around the park such as the sealions, whales, dolphins and the parrots. The dolphin and whale shows were amazing and I must admit that they topped those of Sea World, Orlando, Florida. Loro Parque meaning "Parrot Park" in Spanish lives up to the name as the park is based around the hundreds of different parrots they own. If you are on holiday to Tenerife, do not hesistate to visit this park. With animals ranging from penguins to tigers to gorillas, it truly is somewhere to visit as it is a brilliant place for families, couples, groups of friends or even by yourself. Do not miss...

Castillo de Sol, Puerto Rico

Advantages: Clean, Good entertainment for the kids, good pool

...This was our third trip to Puerto Rico and the first time we had stayed on the hillside. We stayed during the middle of October 2006 The Castillo de Sol Apartments are very clean.We stayed in a one bedroomed apartment. The bedroom was a good size with two good sized wardrobes and a dressing table with a nice large mirror. As always, it was a twin bedded room so we just slid the beds together. Our daughter slept on the sofa bed in the lounge area (bedding was left for us). There was a hand towel and a bath towel for each of us which were changed every other day. bedding was changed once during the week we stayed. The maids cleaned 5-6 days per week. The rooms are basic but more than adequate for our needs (somewhere to get changed and to sleep at night!) We did have a TV in the room which took Euro coins and even the smaller 10...

I've been visiting Puerto Pollensa on the north-eastern tip of Mallorca for 25 years now and I can quite categorically say, it's my favourite part of the world. Advantages: very good location, excellent accommodation

...you could use but you have to buy your own bats and balls. There was a lot of security around these apartments with patrols day and night which made us feel secure. There are lots of shops beneath the apartments but there was no noise from them. Generally the apartments were quiet and peaceful. The supermarket is just across the road selling fresh baked bread and all your essentials. The surrounding area is full of top class restaurants, Chinese, Spanish, Mexican, Indian, American and many more. We were spoilt for choice as where to eat in the evening. The location of the apartments is very good and you could walk to either Los Cristianos one way or in to Playa de las Americas town the other. I would not hesitate to recommend these apartments to anyone of any age. They are fantastic!...

...If you are considering Puerto Pollensa as a family holiday destination do not hesitate. Having just come back from two glorious weeks I heartily recommend it. Puerto Pollensa is a quiet resort in the north of Majorca. It is situated in a beautiful bay and as a good beach and a wide variety of good restaurants. The accommodation that we stayed in was very good (Habitat apartments). It had 3 swimming pools, nightly entertainment and children?s activities during the day. Whether you enjoy beach/pool holidays or want to travel Puerto Pollensa is a great place. The bus service is very good. You can visit busy Alcudia or if you like something even quieter and idyllic Cala San Vicente. The Good, the Bad and the downright Awful

Advantages: Very efficient, clean city with good seafood
Disadvantages: Concha Y Toro vineyard trip

...on big portable display boards and we walked amongst them smiling and being generally English tourist like - not speaking but being very polite! We walked down a pedestrianised street to the Plaza de Armas which was surrounded by Colonial buildings and has a fountain and statues in the middle. We sat at a cafe under an umbrella in the sunshine and watched people going about their daily lives. We were warned that there were pick pockets around the Square and to keep hold of our bags and cameras rather than put them on a chair beside us which we did so we had no problems. It was once again very relaxing just sitting and watching the activities of the people in the Plaza.
