Great apartments in Puerto Del Carmen
Advantages: Clean, friendly apartments
Disadvantages: Steep hills
...We stayed in these apartments in late Septemder and thiught they were great.
They are in the centre of Puerto del Carmen and are rally close to the beach just 200 metres and the main strip of bars, pubs and restaurants. There are supermarkets located at each end of the street. Use the hill beside the spar as it is not as steep as the one on the left which they call cadiac hill.
The apartments we stayed in were opposite reception they are 1 and 2 storied in three different locations - oppsite reception and pool and to either side of the pool. The apartments are spacious and have large a living/kitchen area, bathroom and bedroom. There is a tv in the room with some English Channels however you can pay at reception to get more channels like movies.
We found them extremely clean and the maid cleaned every day. We always had fresh...

Puerto del Carmen is great for everyone
Advantages: Sun, sand and whatever else you want.
Disadvantages: No good for non-flyers.
...A short bus/taxi ride from Lanzarote’s airport, Arrecife, Puerto del Carmen is the island’s main tourist centre. With no rain from May to September and with temperatures at a pleasant but not scorching (especially in a pleasant breeze) 23-29oC sun-seekers cannot go far wrong. However Puerto del Carmen outlived even my high expectations.
Puerto del Carmen consists of two glorious sandy beaches, Playa Blanca and Playa de los Pocillos, a long front filled with restaurants, cafes, bars, souvenir shops and mini-supermarkets and then hotels, apartments and villas, never more than 1km from the sea. Of course good accommodation is very important to an enjoyable holiday and there is a huge range from the very basic (and quite frankly ugly) to the more luxurious (but not unreasonably expensive) with facilities such as tennis courts...

Lovely bungalows
Advantages: Lovely decor, good position
Disadvantages: No Pool bar or entertainment. Breakage deposit 150 euros
...Went to these bungalows in Puerto del Carmen in May 2006. They were recommended but have now been refurbished and it is possibly the nicest small complex in the resort. The decor is superb, I can understand the deposit of 150 euros, it would be a great pity to spoil these beautiful rooms. The deposit is not necessarily required in cash, a credit card receipt can be made out and then destroyed when you check out as long as all is OK.
The position is great, on the sea front near to the Casino, on the sea side of the road. This means that most of the rooms face the sea with a short path down to the rocky shore. The patios have a wind-out awning and are very private, a wonderfully peaceful place to sit with a drink at the end of the day.
The rooms are beautifully decorated and furnished, and there is a small open-air laundry area...

Lanzarote
Advantages: A fantastic holiday for people of all ages
Disadvantages: None at all - i love the place!!
...If your looking for sun, sea, sand and sangrias for your hols this year but your on a 'credit crunch' style budget then Lanzarote may be the one for you! I have visited Lanzarote twice, once as a child and once in October last year and have fallen in love with the place. We stayed in Playa De Los Pocilos which is a small quiet town just outside the main capital of Puerto Del Carmen which is the place to visit if you are after a more lively holiday. Towns such as Costa Tequise, Playa Blanca and Playa De Los Pocillos are for the more quieter folk.
Lanzarote is the fourth largest canary island situated approximately 125km off the coast of Africa so you're guaranteed the sun at least! The great thing about this island is that the whole island is only 60km north to south and 25km east to west so you can pretty much cover the whole island...

Puerto del Carmen. A winters break
Advantages: Near the Airport
Disadvantages: Just one long street
...A winters break in Puerto del Carmen. We spent one week in this resort over the Christmas period, arriving on Boxing day.(4 adults, 1 infant)
Arriving at the airport mid morning we found it to be very busy, there were several people from our flight waiting for baggage over one hour after leaving the plane. 2 of our suitcases didn't show after 1 1/2 hours so I joined the queue at the "help" desk. They were not too helpful. Fortunately one in our party stayed at the carousel and our luggage can around with baggage from another flight.
The taxi queue was very long, but well organised and what I thought was going to be a good wait turned out to be reasonable. The person in charge at the front of the queue was very helpful and the fare was very cheap (£6-7 pounds).
The resort it's self in the main tends to be one long street of bars, shops...

LANZAROTE
Advantages: breathtaking, facinating, clean, plenty to do, beautiful beaches
Disadvantages: none
...National Park to drive through the volcanoes and see some geothermic demonstrations. There are many many watersports available at reasonable prices and also boat trips on catamarans etc. One of the most exciting trips we did was going on a yellow submarine in Puerto Calero. The submarine goes under the Atlantic and out past some old shipwrecks, we saw hundreds of fish, including a shark! Once the submarine stops on the ocean floor, a diver goes down from a nearby boat and swims around the submarine feeding (and thus attracting millions of!) fish. It was an amazing experience and great for all the family.
We booked an evening excusion to The Music Hall Tavern, a drag show in Puerto del Carmen. My dad, brothers and Grandad were a little bit unsure about the whole thing to start with, especially when we got there and it seemed sooo crowded...

I love Lanzarote! ...Fact!
Advantages: Great weather, great scenery, all round great holiday!
Disadvantages: None!
...the evenings though so don't forget to take a jacket out with you!
There is one airport on the island - Arrecife airport, which is situated between Arrecife (the capital) and Puerto Del Carmen. Getting a taxi to your destination is fairly inexpensive because of how small the island is. Most UK airlines fly to Lanzarote and the flight time from London to Lanzarote is around 4 hours.
The first thing you will notice when visiting Lanzarote it how black the island is. In the 18th and 19th century the volcanos on the island erupted and ended up covering the island in black sand and rocks. It sounds a little grim I admit, but it really is an amazing sight. Due to the dry climate and lack of erosion much of the island has remained pretty much the same as it was back then. Much of the island is unspoilt, untouched and unbelivable.
The second thing...

Lanzarote is the perfect family destination
Advantages: Stunning views, lovely locals, fab weather, lots of fun
Disadvantages: 11 nights wasn't long enough!
...Having not long returned from 11 nightsin Costa Teguise, Lanzarote, we are already planning our holiday there next yr! Myself, my husband and 6yr old son had a fantastic time. We toured the entire island finding beautiful little coves and lagoons to swim in ( some of them u would think u were in the carribean). So much to explore for such a small island. Timanfaya National Park which has the islands only active volcano and miles and miles of volcano rock from eruptions hundreds of years ago, the water park in costa teguise, i could go on.. Weather was fab, upto 40 degrees but with a lovely breeze to keep u feeling fresh. The locals were lovely, we visited a beautiful restaurant in Puerto Del Carmen twice and the lovely waiter rememberred us! He was full of knowledge about the island and couldn't do enough to make our visit to...

A Superb hotel
Advantages: Give it a go
Disadvantages: Not much
...Riu Yucatan Mexico.
We stayed here last year and to be honest it was a fairly decent hotel.
In need of a little TLC but otherwise Not bad.
Trip from the airport takes about 40 minutes and you see some deprived areas, not a pleasant start to your holiday and you eventually reach the high gated communities which contain the multitude of 3, 4 and 5 star hotels.
You are now in Playa del Carmen.
The hotel is one of the Riu brand and just down the beach from Its superior neighbour The Riu Palace and similarly just over the road is the hotels sister the Tequila and a little up the road the Riu Playacar.
Situated right on the beach the hotel has a prime location but beware there is not all that much shade on the beach as the static palm leaved sunshade often have holes in them as so you will find yourself...

Jameos Del Agua
Advantages: Stunning attraction beautifully designed and a pleasure to see
Disadvantages: No good for those with walking difficulties
...Jameosdel Agua is well worth a visit. Situated in the north of lanzarote this stunning attraction can be reached by hiring a car or going on a North or full island tour. Designed by Ceaser Manrique (a famous artist/architect from Lanzarote) from a collapsed lava tunnel, Jameos del Agua is an amazing site to behold. As you descend the first set of stairs into a bar area you will already be in awe of the place. On the next level down you will find an undergound lake boasting tiny blind white albino crabs that are usually found many miles below sea level. As you skirt this lake the sun shines in through gaps in the lava and creates a magical atmosphere. You can then ascend the steps on the other side into what can only be described as James Bond type setting. Here is a beautiful swimming pool set into stunning gardens and designed...
