...As it's that time of year when everyone starts flicking through the brochures to find their summer holiday destination, so I thought I'd review Puerto Rico in Gran Canaria which was our destination last September.
Gran Canaria is the third largest of the Canary Islands (after Tenerife and Fuerteventura), and although owned by Spain, is just over 200km from the north coast of Africa, which explains its climate. The north and south of the island do experience differences however, with the north more cloudy and cooler than the hot south.
We picked Puerto Rico, a resort on the southern coast. The flight from Cardiff took approximately 3 1/2 hours.
Driving into Puerto Rico, the first thing that becomes apparent is that the resort is built into a huge valley in the mountains. Hotels have been built all the way up to the top...
Advantages: Ideal location to suit all ages Disadvantages: Hotels set high in the hillside- but that wouldn't spoil your holiday!
...So.... I booked my third holiday to Puerto Rico!
On my first one, I had such a great time and made so many fond memories that I just had to go again. Fast forward 3 years and I made my second journey. Once again the holiday blew me away- I never thought I could have enjoyed it more than my first time but it exceeded all expectations.
And two years on, i've booked to go again!
Puerto Rico is set in a location surrounded by a volcano- hard to believe but true! Its beautiful beach and clear waters makes Puerto Rico the perfect place to holiday whether you enjoy lounging on the beach or soaking up the rays around the hotel pool.
There is a harbour where excursions take place daily- One I can definately recommend is the trip to Morgan which is a 20 minute boat ride to a big market where the locals sell their produce- this is...
...After having booked months in advance with the great Going Places me a two friends on a dusk September evening were heading off to Gran Canaria. The flight was great - very comfortable, even if a little long (appox 4 hours). We had the usual: food, film etc and a very friendly service from Airtours.
After arriving at Las Palmas airport we were efficiently taken to our resort of Puerto Rico. The transfer was quite long as Puerto Rico is one of the most southern resorts on the island, although it was interesting seeing other resorts as we travelled down.
The appartments were lovely: clean, fresh and close to well...everything: shops, bars, beach. Our view was also to die for. We stayed at the Tamanaco appartment complex.
Puerto Rico had everything: gorgeous beaches, cleanliness and so many shops and restaurants. Anything to buy...
