pula a mini rome!!
Advantages: beautiful monuments, sea and food
Disadvantages: check bill in restaurants as they usually overcharge you!!!
...This is the third time Ive been to pula so Im becoming a bit of an expert! Its in Istria which is part of croatia, its in the south of croatia. we drove ther from italy and crossed a bit of slovenia to get there. Major traffic. If you are going from england, you can fly with ryanair from london stanstead. Im not sure if you can fly from other airports. I was surprised I didnt meet any english people there in 2 weeks!! Predominantly tourists are Italian, followed by french and german in equal measure.
The first time we went stayed in pula. Now pula is like a mini rome it has its own ampitheatre and arena and the square is similar to piazza navona in rome. Its ancient with very beautiful buildings. Its not very big so you can walk around it easily in a couple of hours.
My main advice is to be careful when eating there. Lots...

PULA - GLADIATORS SACRIFICES
Advantages: many things to explore & very cultural and romantic place to see
Disadvantages: camps and youth hostel is the only place to stay cheaper & not cheapest place in the world
...with 2750 berths open all year round. Tourist founds of windsurfing will find that the favorable sea currents are very strong and wind demanding. Nearly all tourist places along the coast rent windsurfing equipment. Also water skiing courses are in all larger tourist villages and camps. Apart from the versatile flora and fauna, the Istrian Sea hides shipwrecks that are very interesting to viewers and professionals. There is diving clubs willing to organize and lead underwater expeditions. There’re also spider-web bike trails, covering all Istria. Since the fantastic climatic conditions, paragliding and hang-gliding is practiced all year round.
You will easily locate Pula on the map. Young James Joyce taught English, in the naval base of the Austro- Hungarian Monarchy in 1904-1905. Also Jules Verne who actually glorified Pula in his novel...

The capital of the Istrian peninsula
Advantages: lots to do, culturally interesting place to visit
Disadvantages: didn't spend enough time there!
...On my sailing trip this year, Pula was our last port of call. A beautiful city with much to do, the visit was much appreciated by everyone who went with me.
Pula, the largest city in the Istrian peninsula, has been in existence for almost three thousand years. As well as making it one of the oldest cities in Croatia, its long life is the main reason why the city boasts such a rich and diverse range of historical and cultural attractions.
The Roman authority in Pula which was established around 177 BC gave Pula special importance and boosted the growth of the city. The influence of the Romans was probably the most important influence in the city's history, and this can be seen in its wide range of attractions.
The major attraction of the city is its amphitheatre. Situated right outside Pula's harbour, it is one of the six largest...

Late Sun In The Real Sardinia...
Advantages: Beautiful, Unspoilt, Superb Climate
Disadvantages: More Expensive Than You Might Expect
...PULA: THE OTHER ONE-
In that slouched sort of manner often adopted by smokers, or teenagers, my Sardinian friend and I sit on our haunches on the steps of a stone patio, outside a little Sardinian house. My friend's grandmother lived in it, once. She also died here, many years ago, in the room overlooking the orange trees. This week, however, the little house is ours. Cicada's hum incessantly, creating a background buzz like left-on stereo speakers. Easing myself back, I stretch out my legs in the October sunshine, which is dappled between the foliage of Frangipanis.
Further along the road, there are the occasional shouts of children, the echoing bounce of a football, the sudden yapping of small dogs, and every few minutes, the unhealthy roar of a small car, tearing recklessly along the narrow street. Otherwise, there is just...

The archeological town of Nora, South Sardinia
Advantages: archeological site, culture, sunny beach, shops, nice food
Disadvantages: none
...Nora is a beautiful small touristic village belonging to the district of Pula (Cagliari, South Sardinia) and it's famous mainly for its Punic-Roman ruins. But archeological finds like the "Temple of Tanit", ceramics and the ruins of a nuraghe on the outskirts, just prove that Nora was already inhabited in the era of the nuraghi, long before the Phoenicians and the Romans.
----------------------How to get there----------------------------------------------
From Cagliari you must follow the Sulcitana road (S.S 195) towards Pula, enter the city of Pula (30 km away from Cagliari) and then follow the road signals to Nora, which is is just at the end of a long tree-lined road.
-----------------------Archeological site--------------------------------------------
In the archeological area, which is one of the most important of the whole...

Split Decision
Advantages: Wonderfully varied scenery; superb climate and excellent local food
Disadvantages: Breakfast
...In the end my wife decided we SHOULD visit our Bosnian friends, refugees in Split.
The town built round the Roman Emperor Diocletian's palace is superb with narrow streets wending their way under arches and in some cases underground. Small squares house a plethora of little cafes and interesting shops; on every street corner there is something to see: a saint in a niche, a roman pillar, a medieval statue. Then there's the peristyle, complete with two Sphinxes, where we saw an open-air production of Aida. The Adriatic laps up to the walls of the promenade shaded by palms and other trees; the vista from a distance is gloriously " Mediterranean ".
We flew from UK to Pula where we visted the ampitheatre and temple, and overnighted in a sort of Communist type holiday camp. The Istrian peninsula is well worth a longer stay than...

Mixed Feelings
Advantages: Good value, great hotel
Disadvantages: poor rep, lost ski equipment
...In this review I will tell you about my ski holiday in 2009 with Balkan Holidays London

They also sell golf holidays, mini breaks and things like car hire, travel insurance

Piranhas in Pyjamas
Advantages: cheap, clean, quiet
Disadvantages: no beach, not a lot of nightlife
..., which whilst being reliable (fairly punctual give or take 5-10 mins) can be a very slow way of getting anyway. Coaches leave Piran for Ljubljana (2.5 hours several daily ? an excellent trip through the Triglav National Park) Pula (Croatia 3 hours ? 1 daily) and Trieste (1.5 hours ? several daily) as well as frequent shuttle services to Koper (via Portoroz ? 40 mins).
Trains are not a lot quicker, as you can only get as close as Koper and the bus connections do not seem to dovetail that well really, although during the high season, the buses run more frequently from Koper to Piran. Finally there is a third alternative, the hydrofoil from Venice, which is a great way of travelling, although this again is only seasonal and dependent on conditions in the Adriatic.
Update May 2004: There are a couple of new viaducts being built...

Disadvantages: none
...fjord outside of scandinavia. The film the vikings was filmed here which starred
Kirk Douglas and Tony Curtis. There is also a fish breeding farm at the top of the fjord.as you leave the fjord heading back to Porec
you will pass some of the 1,270 plus islands that surround Croatia. You will call at the small fishing town of Vsar, with some of the largest pleasure crafts moured in the port.
The ice cream parlor/cafe is run an italian family, the best you will ever taste,or while taking in the sun, try the grappa,be warned it is very strong and a taste of it`s own.
From there it is a leasurely boat ride back to Porec. If you stay here,Pula is only one hour from Porec by bus, this is a must.As
you arrive in Pula, your fist sight is of this amazing ampitheatre,it
is outstanding and breathtaking again on the seafront.
